SOTN > My dislike of 3D fighting games that aren't SSB.

Tekken and Virtua Fighter never worked for me, I wasn't too interested in the characters and the movements always seemed too rigid to me. Still, Symphony of the Night has more than enough notoriety and acclaim to take this one. It's arguably the best game in the series, and given how long Castlevania has been around and how anticipated each new entry is at release, that's no small feat in any way. The 2-D gameplay is pitch perfect, the graphics are full of life and personality, and the story and characters are quite memorable. It's not a terribly long or difficult game, but when the experience is as long-lasting and polished as it is here, it's hard to complain. Symphony of the Night (gotta love those enigmatic titles!) takes this round for me.

I was so obsessed with Tekken 3 for a time and played it to death, I've got to give it to that.

I guess there were a lot of people into the Tekken thing. I wasn't one of them. I have played it quite a bit, but it's nothing special...especially next to Castlevania.

Instead of talking about the games themselves too much, since we're nearing the more intense later matches I'll just compare them.

It goes without saying, I love Symphony of the Night to death. I think its one of the top 5 greatest 2D games ever made personally. Tekken 3 is pretty fun too, but there is no way I can vote for it over Symphony. From how well designed a character Alucard is in both look and gameplay, to the details in everything and the huge variety and expanse of the castle, this game was a labor of love for Iga and you can just tell. Tekken 3 is pretty fun, it took the series in the modern direction we know of it today, and the extras were fun. But the reason I vote for Symphony over this is simple, Tekken 3 is a fighting game with extras. And the fighting game itself while good, is still pretty simplistic especially compared to its later incarnations.

Its good, but Symphony is one of the greatest games of all time without a doubt.
