Haven't played the other one, but Sonic 2 is one of my favourite games ever.
Goddammit, one of the greatest adventure games of all time up against a tired and boring format. It's just not fair!

I've never played The Secret of Monkey Island, but I've known about its funability (NEW WORD). Through countless internet memes and other means of seeing it, it's always given me a laugh, and I really wish I could have played it back when.
However, Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The end.

I haven't played The Secret of Monkey Island, which upsets me since I was a big fan of the PC adventure genre, so in a way I'm rooting for it to win here. If we were talking about Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers or King's Quest VI which I have played (why didn't I think of nominating them at the beginning of this?), it would be a different story, but here I have to vote for Sonic 2.
Not that I feel bad for voting for it, it's easily my favorite Sonic game on the Genesis, which automatically makes it my favorite Sonic game ever (honestly, there are few once-respected series out there that have crashed and burned over time as painfully as Sonic has). The levels had charm and charisma all over, whether it was the jazzy casino stages, the spooky cave stages, or the tech-heavy metropolis stages. The bonus games were alot of fun to play, the two-player modes both competitive and cooperative were a blast, and the gameplay was very polished.
It's not that hard to find The Secret of Monkey Island. All you need is a decent file-sharing network and a handy little program called ScummVM. It can also be used to play many other adventure games.

I really miss the old style adventure games. There's Room 215 for the DS now, but still its definitely a format that's dissapeared almost.
I can kinda see why in some cases, but still they were really fun I thought. I wonder if there's a bonafide way to update that kind of game onto current systems. Its probably been tried already I imagine.
But even so Sonic 2's got this particular nostalgic worth for me thats really hard to topple even for Maniac.

Secret of Monkey Island. If you haven't played it you don't know what you're missing.

Sidescroller sequel vs. amazingly funny adventure game.
Guess I shouldn't be suprised at what is winning.

Console nostalgia beats PC nostalgia, usually.
