I haven't played either game, but I'll go ahead and vote for Silent Hill 2 anyway. Sonic and Knuckles was a nice entry for the series what with allowing a new playable character both in an original adventure and in Sonic 2 and 3, but that's just about it. However, Silent Hill 2 is often regarded as the best of the series, a series that unfairly has often played a distant second fiddle to Resident Evil in the survival horror genre (in my opinion, SH always seemed to have the more frightful and the more interesting scares). That's about all I have to say though, as I said, I haven't played either game.

Man, it's bad enough the better Silent Hill game got put out early. If SH2 loses to a game whose only memorable aspect is a goofy lock on cart gimmick, well... :-/

I've already said why I think Silent Hill 2 is great before, so in short while its not the most cutting edge game ever gameplay-wise, its one of the most well designed games when it comes to looks, the meaning even behind everything, how it immerses the player in it, and the narrative. Its interactive art.

Nice to see that "Silent Hill 2" is winning now. Because I can't think of a more disappointing defeat than to see one of the most intelligent, thoughtful, and emotionally powerful games ever made lose to a gimmicky, redundant half-game spawned from a series with a lead character that contains all the coolness and marketing thought of Poochie the dog.
