I'm so glad I'm not the only one voting for MGS3. I know some are going to think it blasphemous but I recently replayed MGS3 Substinence and really I'm dead convinced its one of the best games ever made (yet).
I mean, the classic MGS gameplay was just perfected there, as we know it now. I really want to see where they're going to take it with 4 but playing this game is like feeling silk. And not only did it really perfect MGS gameplay but it took it a step further by really making it feel a little less like a puzzle game and more like an in depth stealthy experience. But its not even just that, the scenerio planning was incredible too, and whats great is you didn't have to have played the other Metal Gear games to enjoy this story, but if you have been following it it just made everything better.
There is so much detail in this game, and the art design, story planning, boss fights, everything is so gorgeous that I seriously can't not vote for it here. I know Chrono Trigger is an all time classic and probably one of the greatest RPGs made, certainly arguably the pinnacle of 16 bit RPGs, and its music can't be beat even though MGS3 had a great soundtrack. But all and all MGS3 is just an incredible game.

I have alot of respect for the Metal Gear Solid games (I'm still a little shocked the original got lost out in the first round), and the third one was great, but I can't vote against what is just about the greatest RPG ever made (up yours Final Fantasy!), Chrono Trigger. It was a terrific experience from start to end, complete with a small but wonderful cast of characters, an ingenious battle system, beautiful graphics, a great set of secrets and side-quests, and one of the most spectacular stories ever written for a video game. More than a decade later, there's yet to be an RPG to top this one for me, and for many others.

Metal Gear Solid 3. Not my personal favorite of the Metal Gear series, but it get my vote. Although bovine has got me interested in Chrono Trigger, never liked it but it has been a long time since I have even seen that game.

Chrono Trigger is a great game to play. Even if I voted for MGS3 here I can say that.
If you really absolutely can't play older games then there's not much I can say, but even for a 16 bit era game its beautiful. Seriously its worth playing through at least once.
I haven't played Chrono Trigger, so i have to go with Metal Gear Solid.
It took me while though to know how to play the first one on Psone. :P
