This thread should be in the Drunken Clam.

Anyhow, yes, it is true. They haven't really said much besides the fact that it is planned for 2010 and that they asked Randy Newman to score the film (:-/).

The Pixar film that is coming after Wall-E is in fact not Toy Story 3 but Up (2009), which is about an old guy who goes on adventures around the world Could go both ways, I guess.

Of course it's being done by Pixar. Originally (3 years ago), Disney was going to do it themselves, and even opened a new studio for it. Of course after the Pixar deal they immediately closed that place down, Lasseter took over the project, scrapped everything and started from the beginning. And I think all of the original cast (Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, etc) is signed on for it.

It is only poor Jim Varney that died, unless you know something I don't.

No, the guy who played Wheezy and Lenny the binoculars died in a car accident. Anyway, I don't think that they could top Toy Story 2, no matter what studios making it.

Yeah, Joe Ranft did die. But his voice roles in Pixar movies never had much importance. It was his directing and story work that did.

I heard that the third film's about what happens to the toys after their owner grows up and abandons them. That sounds pretty interesting, even though John Lasseter's not directing it which kinda sucks .

This seems to be sort of a pointless discussion since we have no real confirmed facts yet. I'd be happy to hear an official announcement for a third Toy Story though. I liked the first two.

There's been an official announcement. Search around Upcoming Pixar (http://upcomingpixar.blogspot.com), it's bound to be there. On a nutshell, it'll premiere on 2010, after WALL·E and Up, it'll be directed by Lee Unkrich (co-director of the first two), and the script is currently being written by Michael Arndt, of "Little Miss Sunshine" fame.

Seems like Pixar would only be making a third Toy Story to shut Disney up about making sequels to their films. Not like the film really needs a third one.

Andy would never abandon his toys.

Uh, in case you're forgetting, Lasseter's in charge of ALL of Disney animation. Any film that Disney makes passes through his control. He's basically what Jeffrey Katzenberg was at Disney in the 80s/90s (except that he actually knows what he's doing, for the most part).

Semaj

Yes. Except that prior to the merger, and the closure of Circle 7, Pixar had no interest in making a third Toy Story. In fact, Lasseter initially cancelled the project once he became Disney's new Chief Creative Officer.

Personally, I don't think they need a third Toy Story. But if Pixar is going ahead with the project on their own terms, then that's a good thing.

He pretty much abandoned Woody in favor of Buzz

i really like the first two but not sure what this one will bring... now that they have some new characters from two, i guess they'll be involved somewhat, man i'm stating the obvious...

anyways, it's coming out around the time i graduate hs, can't wait

slinky made a noise

i wonder who's playing slinky's voice after the previous one died

"In 'Toy Story 3,' for instance ... we found actually an old friend of [Varney's] who sounds an awful lot like him — another actor that's going to be doing that voice," Lasseter said of the character's return.
So there's that.

Really excited. "Toy Story" was my favorite movie as a kid, and I still love it. I haven't seen "Toy Story 2" since it first came out; I didn't like it back then, but I'm going to see it in the theater when it's rereleased in October, and I have a feeling I might like it this time around. As for "Toy Story 3", it sounds like a fresh, interesting concept for the story, and the teaser thankfully shows all the characters in their great, original characterizations. Definitely looking forward to it.

I know it's so sad but more than wondering how the movie's going to be, the first thing on my mind was "what about slinky?" too.

ha, just saw this on wiki and thought it was stupid enough to post:
The third chapter of the Toy Story trilogy tells the story of Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the others of the Toybox Gang when their now teenage owner, Andy, leaves for college, leaving our heroes at a day-care center. However things take a turn for the worst when they all contract AIDS from a pot plant and must journey to Dorito headquarters to waste time.

Toy Story 1 and 2 are wonderful. They're the only good movies Pixar has ever made. Third movies in a series usually suck. So I'm naturally worried that they're gonna fuck everything up with this one.

All i kept thinking while i was watching "Cars" was how much Larry the Cable Guy sounded like he could play Slinky, if he just toned down the hillbilly bullshit just alittle bit

If the Matrix can warrant a trilogy, than Toy Story more than deserves one. Just hope they dont base the 3rd story off of Robin Williams "Toyz" movie :P

I'm happily surprised to see that there's a teaser! Wasn't expecting one until a few months later. It's great to hear the good ol' voice crew together again, though I'll miss Jim Varney :(

I dont think most of the original audiences of the first 2, unless they are animation fans like you or me, will be in to this, but i'll definately go to this. It has a lot of promise as long as doesnt turn out like the 3rd shrek.

afaik they will show the first two movies in 3d this year in the cinemas, so that should also bring attention and a new young audience to the new movie.

I'm sick of this "real 3D" gimmick, it's just a lame ploy to try and thwart movie piracy.

Can't wait. I really forgot how great the Toy Story movies were until a TV station here played them back to back last year. I saw both of the orginials in the cinemas and will definitely be seeing this one.

I agree with Rich Uncle Skeleton-I don't like the 3-D gimmick, either.

Hope Toy Story 3 isn't anything like Shrek the Third (oh, that was bad!).

i agree, before Up was released some so called experts were concerned that a story about an old man would scare away the audience. Looking now at the box office numbers and the praise all around, these experts are nowhere to be seen or heard again.
