PlayStation 3 vs. Xbox 360 vs. Wii (http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/11/playstation-3-vs-xbox-360-vs-wii/)

I knew the Wii was small, but it takes pictures like these to make you really grasp HOW small. Also, how absolutely HUGE the PS3 is.
EDIT: Also, if you watch this video (http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/11/wii-setup-and-interface-walkthrough-video/) about the setup of the Wii, about 2 minutes in you can see a Wii, 360, PS3 and PS2 all next to each other. And actually, the PS3 is frickin' HUGE compared to the PS2 (which was frickin' huge itself before the Xbox came along).

The PS3 is still probably smaller than the original X-Box, though.

The PS3 is still probably smaller than the original X-Box, though. Most likely - NOTHING could be larger than the Xbox. It is larger than the universe itself.
Incidentally, the ONE thing that I loved about the Xbox was that it was so big it was bullet-proof. :D
No, the PS3 is slightly larger then the original then the original Xbox in every dimension and weight. Which is funny because the size of the Xbox was a frequent target by Sony fanboys.
Nintendo has done everything right in regards to the Wii (except the ridiculous name and mind boggling lack of HD support). The design is terrific, it looks a lot like an external PC disk drive.
I hated the designs of the previous consoles, they became progressively more childish looking. I HATED the design of the Gamecube. A purple cube with a carry handle? wtf? It looked like a fisher price toy. In fact it was the spitting image of a toy "record" player I had as a kid.
But the wii is brilliant, a complete turnaround. Small, simple, understated.

I just read from that same website that the box that a PS3 comes in weighs about 17 pounds (8 kilos). Jesus.

I knew the PS3 was going to be big and bulky. I'm still not totally sold on the design. The black finish is nice, but I don't like how the top bulges out. Reminds me of the original Xbox design, which I really never liked. I still say that 360 is pretty much the most gorgeous gaming console ever released. It's just designed really nicely.
As for the Wii, holy shit. I knew it was small, but not that small. It's like, half the size of the 360. Wow.

I read the PS3 was the same weight as the 360 is plus the power brick. I thought that was 11 lbs.
I just want to know, what the hell is the deal with the Spiderman font?

In all honesty, I think the PS3 looks like a Laserdisc player from the mid-80s when placed flat. Maybe even an earlier CED player if you look at it right. Doesn't mean I won't get one down the road. Console looks have absolutely nothing to do with gameplay, anyway. Yet, people still say the dumbest things sometimes (ZOMG teh Gamecube looks like a Fisher-Price toy KIDS GAMES ONLY ;-/).
But the Sexbox and Wii Wii are incredibly sexy looking no matter how you look at them.

Fuck you skittle. Where did I say it only had kids games? Because I dont remember saying that. I said it looks like a toy, and thats what it does look like, how can you even argue that. And no, it makes absolutely no difference to gameplay, but its relevent because WE ARE IN A THREAD DISCUSSING THE MOTHERFUCKING DESIGN OF CONSOLES NOT THE GAMES.
And yes looks are important to me when it comes to my home entertainment area, I like when everything looks nice and integrated, something a purple cube doesnt do.
And Im not the only one who thinks it looks like a toy. A quote from one gamestore catalogue:
"Though it looks like a toy, don't be fooled: The Nintendo GameCube is a powerful video game console that rightly deserves its place among the other next-generation game systems"

That's like, the biggest overreaction to a post I've ever seen. That or a weird, bad attempt at sarcasm.
Yes it was, my apologies. Im hung over as hell and not in the mood for people misquoting me in order to call me dumb.

*Generic joke about PS3 size.
The Wii looks awesome. It's a testament to the genius of Nintendo too. The fact that they can fit all of their technology, which is somewhat comparable to that of the PS3 and XBox, into such a small place really makes you appreciate the effort that they're gone to. It seems that Sony just lumped it all into a black suitcase and slapped a post modern design on it and left it there. The Xbox looks as if a lot more effort has gone into making it look somewhat more conservative like the Wii, but it's still huge. The wii? It's a bit drab, I'll admit, but the work to condense it to that size must have been incredible.
Edit: One though I can't shake off is that the general consumer isn't going to be impressed by the size of the Wii, and will disregard it based only on that. It's based on the sentiments towards the Gamecube which were held by almost everyone that ever saw it. "It's small, purple, and it looks like a foam toy", then the uneducated consumer would continue saying "why bother wasting my money on that"
I just want to know, what the hell is the deal with the Spiderman font?
Sony must own the font because their film division (Columbia) released the Spider-Man films. They must be using it to full effect. :-\

Christ on a bike, jim. I didn't even see your post before making mine. In no way was I ever quoting or misquoting you. It's something the general consensus (of, at the time, PS2/XBox fanboys) have been saying for some time. Although I still hear it today. Just a coincidence that we used the same term. Calm down, man.
If you read Neb's edit, it's pretty much the same thing I meant to say. Again, something that's been going around since 2001.

how much does the wii weigh?
it doesnt seem like a very portable system either, if you have to constantly be moving the motion censors. and by portable i mean take to a friends house, take to your other tv etc...

it doesnt seem like a very portable system either, if you have to constantly be moving the motion censors. and by portable i mean take to a friends house, take to your other tv etc...For the PS3, 360, GC, PS2, and just about any other console you can think of, you always had the console, controller(s), TV leads and power leads. It has ALWAYS been a hassle to move consoles between TVs/houses.
The Wii only has one extra lead (the sensor bar), but it's so small it won't make much of a difference. And the Wii is a lot lighter and smaller than PS3/360, so I would infinitely prefer carrying the Wii and its stuff to a friend's house than even try lugging the PS3 and its stuff. Plus, no mass of black spaghetti like you got with PS2/GC controllers...
Oh, and to answer your other question, the Wii is about 7 pounds.

The problem with moving the Wii is that you also have to re-calibrate the controllers to the TV screen. Probably.
And my thoughts were basically said by every other person in this thread... So... Yeah.

Try 1991. I remember seeing the pre-release version of the Super-NES back in 1990 and I thought it was the ugliest system on the face of the planet.
As for the PS3, I think it's the best console out of the three, but none are of 'wow' design, IMO.

You have to re-calibrate only if you move the sensor bar I believe.
let's all remember that the PS3 CONTAINS a blu-ray dvd player. the 360 contains NO dvd player. hence the size difference. put the functionality together, add your hd-dvd peripheral, and your picture needs to incorporate this:

that HD-DVD add-on is basically the same size as the Wii next to it, I don't know why but that makes me laugh. (note: not at the Wii.)
