Who else is pumped? This is (to me at least) the first big would-be must own title to come out for the 360 and it looks fantastic. I picked up the EGM with the Gears Of War cover story and I'm about to read it. They recently held a special launch party for the game in LA and the everything I here is good.

gamespot gave it a 9.7, and ign a 9.4. not too shabby.
was undecided about it before, but after reading up on it it really sounds like a must-own. too bad this and cod came on the same day

Gametrailers put up about 5 fucking pages straight of Gears.

I watched the review, and to be honest, was tired of even looking at it after 3 minutes. I just don't have a need for another "Big space marines fight monsters in a dark urban warzone." shooter.

Dead Rising so far remains my only incentive to buy a 360.

I'm still undecided on buying this. The hype has me intrigued, but I'm not sure the actual game sounds interesting enough to really be enjoyable. Won't be able to tell until I play it though. I may give it a rental this week.

People, please post your reviews of the game when you get it and have put some hours into it. I really want it, but want some hands-on reviews first..

I baught plane tickets and now I don't have enough to get this game. FUCK.
I consider Oblivion a must own for 360, thus making Gears of War the 2nd. Really pumped about this game, can't wait to get my hands on it.

Shit, those are awesome scores, especially for IGN. I hadnt really planned on picking up this one, thought it might end up being the Brute Force of the 360, but with scores like that it might just live up to the hype.

As for must own 360 games, from my experience so far I'd pick:
Oblivion
COD2
Dead Rising
Test Drive Unlimited
Splinter Cell
Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter

I tried this at E3. I'm not the biggest fan of third person co-op games but this one was actually a lot of fun. Its very intense and fast paced. For multi-player there's a huge emphasis on working together, as you can heal fellow comrades as well. There's of course a good amount of teamwork necessary for these kind of co-op games...hense the name. But it feels even more stressed in this game than any of the others I've played so far.

I just hope they toned down the Chainsaw weapon. A big complaint in the demo version we all tried is that the Chainsaw was like Halo's Plasma Sword times 100. Way too overpowered a weapon. Its fun though, if you have a 360 I think its worth getting.

I don't know why some don't like the commercial. I loved it. Its so different than the usual "hardcore" commercials these games tend to get.

The commercial for this game is one of the best I've seen in quite some time. Fucking love it.

Halo killer. That's right, you heard me.

Put about 5 hours into it last night on co-op with a friend. We agreed that for the first time playing through, we'd play it co-op so we'd experience everything for the first time together. It's lead to some pretty cool moments. Also had some funny accidents. For example, we got to this gas station and there was a car flipped over leaning on a pump. Underneath it there was a propane tank, which you normally need to blow up to get some light. We didn't need the light here, so I was walking past the car, but my friend shot the tank and it flipped the car right over on top of me. Had to wait about 30 seconds before we could start over because we had to laugh about it for a while.

Oh, and this is by far the most graphically impressive game on the 360. Doesn't matter what's going on, from explosions, ground breaking apart, bridges falling over, huge creatures coming up out of the ground, the framerate remains perfectly solid.

blueguy that is lofty praise...you just sold me on getting it this weekend.

commercial is indeed the shit with the song from donnie darko in it...believe it was originally done by tears for fears.

Keep in mind, I'm not considering the multiplayer action. Haven't done that yet. But the single player/co-op campaign is just so much more. This game feels new in so many regards. Dare I say Gears is the first true next-gen game. Halo 3 may take the title back, but for now, Gears is king.

Now I'm anxious to see that trailer. Link?

I'm really interested after reading your thoughts blueguy. I'll definitely consider a rental if I get to Blockbuster this weekend.

Set up to the story. Why the fuck this isn't the opening of the game, I'll never know. As far as I know, it isn't even on the game disk at all.

The graphics seen in those vids don't really do the game justice.

That commercial is fantastic. I don't see what people wouldn't like about it.

Alright, I got it, and to be totally honest...the single player isn't doing much for me BUT holy crap is the multiplayer awesome. I highly recommend picking it up instantly just for the online. I'm kicking ass and I'm still only in my first server.

I beg to differ, just got it (wasn't sure if i was gonna but did because of the reviews) and the single player sucked me in immediately, really fantastic. so much fun to play, pretty much hands down the best single player on 360 so far.
and i haven't touched multiplayer yet either.

What's your gamertag? I'm probably going to be on all weekend since I'm addicted now.

I might try to delve into the campaign a little more on Sunday, if I can pull myself away from the multiplayer.

Online co-op campaign is where it's at. Especially if neither of you has played through the game yet.

jacket potatoe is the gamertag

id be up for some online co-op, even though the team a.i. is good, theres probably nothing like coordinating all this online

well, back to the game

Well, me and friend beat it on casual co-op. Took about 10 hours over 2 days. We'll eventually do Hardcore, but we both have COD3 to play and I've got FFXII as well to work on.

i still haven't beat this game (made certain i was playing on normal difficulty, or whatever they call it. medium.) but it keeps getting better.

though i dont like the kryll or the quick little things that explode when you shoot them, mostly because they get me every time.

and finally got around to online mode, which is some of the most fun ive had on xbox live. coordinating strategy against human plays especially in a game this good is fantastic
