View Full Version : Favorite Athlete
Mayor Quimby

Alot of us around here are greatly loyal to our favorite sports teams, and likewise the athletes on those teams. I'm just wondering who everyone's favorite athlete is? Personally my favorite athlete is James Blake the tennis player, he's a world class guy, and I love to watch him play. Also unlike some of the rest of these guys he can't be traded. However I do have others that get the favorite tags in various sports.
NFL: My favorite player was Vikings era Randy Moss, since the trade I don't have any one particular favorite on the team.
MLB: Omar Vizquel, a great defensive shortstop and a truly underrated player who was overshadowed by the young guys like Jeter, A-Rod, and Nomar.
NBA: Shawn Kemp from the Sonics was my favorite NBA player of all-time, when he was traded, I promptly stopped watching basketball.
NHL: Martin Brodeur one of the best goalies of his generation, and key player on the only professional team to win a championship in my lifetime.
As you can tell, my allegiance to players has gone sour more times than not. I guess in this era its almost impossible to have one player play for a team his entire career.

nba: michael fucking jordan. nowdays its probably kirk hinrich
nfl: brian urlacher
mlb: mark buehrle remains my favorite player despite the rough year. also a big konerko fan.
college bb: fucking mateen cleaves. nowdays its drew neitzel.
college football: otis wiley has emerged as the most likeable guy on a horrible team. he'll be fun to watch over the next two and a half years.
mlb: barry zito... for now. i can't have a favourite player that's not on my team. i will root for him, but he won't be my favourite. nick swisher is next in line.
nhl: jason smith.

This is gonna sound weird, but I'm gonna say John McDonald. He played shortstop for the Toronto Blue Jays this past season. He's a so-so player. One of those defensive replacement players. But a couple of weeks ago, he was on sports talk radio and was fielding calls from listeners. First question he was asked was "If you could get any player in MLB to join the Jays, who would you get?" His answer, Miguel Tejada. An All-Star/MVP caliber player who never misses a game and plays the same position. John McDonald puts the team before himself.
