So after all the misinformed hooplah and controversy over this thing, it's finally out. I honestly didn't expect it to turn out well, and wasn't overly interested in it but the positive reviews (http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/928128.asp) and feedback from other places convinced me to check it out.

It really is a great game. It uses a lot of the same game mechanics as GTA, but without feeling tired or played out or anything. Lots of fun wandering around talking shit to people, stuffing jocks into trash cans, flirting with girls and throwing rotten eggs at them when they reject you. Really funny too, I've spent a lot of time hanging around the Nerd area, listening to them fight it out with the bullies and jocks. ("I'm casting my Haste spell now! Soon you won't even see my attacks because it'll be so fast!") Even the combat is entertaining, plays very much like the Warriors game from last year (definitely a good thing), with plenty of moves to learn from the crazy hobo who lives outside of the schoolgrounds. The only thing really holding it back is the PS2. The game has plenty of nice detail and everything, but it chugs quite a bit, there's a lot of pop-up and draw in, and annoying load times. It's too bad they canned the Xbox version.

Game's good enough to make me put Okami on hiatus, so it must've done something right. I kinda wish I could've got the Special Edition though; real Bully dodgeball ftw. Now to pad this post with some random screenshots:

Read some stuff about it on GameInformer. Looks pretty good.

Hasn't it had to be renamed "Canis Canem Edit?" That's not just in the U.K is it? Anyone understand what it's supposed to mean.

See, I know absloutley nothing about latin, I didn't know it was supposed to be latin, I'd never understood your name. I got Nerd, but that's about it.

Voice of the nerdz :nerdb:

And yeah, Canis Cadem Edit is the title for Euro/Aus., meaning dog eat dog, and it's Bullworth Academy's motto.

When I read the big story GameInformer did on it, my interest skyrocketed despite the obvious controversy that would erupt over it. I'm happy to see lots of positive reviews, it's very reassuring. It's basically the concept of GTA but less so and in the setting of high school with a bunch of pricks that you just wanna pound on...and now can if you want. The setting alone makes it very appealing to me :3

Unfortunately, I am currently strapped for cash so it may be a long time until I can buy this :'(

Now that I know it's not you that's doing the bullying, I really want this. But right now all my cash is being saved for Nintendo's little white miracle box.

it has had me interested for months. it was supposed to be an xbox exclusive originally...right? anyhow its 39.99 and is supposed to have a ton of different gameplay elements involved. I plan to pick it up this weekend along with a couple of new 360 games.

I'll probably be renting this soon. Sounds like a cool game. I hate when something controversial like this comes out and the media won't shut up about it though.

Yeah, but the media does like to chew on everything, except real news. This game does look intersting, and the kid on the cover looks like Bobby Hill.

...What controversy??
Everyone's saying how violent it is and how it's "teaching our children to be murderers". Idiots.

H Thompson
10-22-2006, 08:08 AM
And how it'll encourage children to stand up to bully's.

For those who don't know about the controversy: Search for info on a man named Jack Thompson. He attacks every game this company makes, and tried to ban Bully, claiming it's a "Columbine Simulator".

Despite being an actor who has appeared in many violent movies...

It's a different guy.

Actor Jack Thompson: Fat middle-aged country-man.

Asshole Jack Thompson: Skinny little sixty-year-old from Florida whose voice honest-to-God sounds like a Billy West impression of a retard politician.

I bought bully the week of its release. however I got too many games I need to complete on other systems. however I have finished chapter 1 and all I can say is that its well worth it. I think it runs off the same game engine as the warriors game did. there is lots to do once you get out of the first chapter, the town provides a nice change of pace once you get off the campus. tons of items to collect...also the classroom mini games are pretty fun...except art, that one blows.

I finished this game earlier, and it was a lot of fun, but it generally seemed a little underwhelming somehow, Even though part of the fun is that, it's sort of like GTA mixed with the warriors but in a very quaint little world it seems like it might benefit from a few slightly more dramatic missions. Also the story and dialouge just seems kind of hard to buy into, Kids really just don't talk like that, somehow something like GTA seems far more realistic, even when your breaking into Area 51 and flying away on a jet pack.
But still A fun game, and in true rockstar style, I've still got non-story relevant missions and plenty of other little things to do.

basicly put 30-40 minutes into this game each day after my last post...it is now completed at 100%. it was definitely a good game for the price point. plan to enjoy it now that its endless summer and I can just repeat things.

It looks ok I guess. From what I've heard and seen it doesn't seem like an game that can compete with the likes of Gta. I'll have to check it out.

Damn it. I've had the limited edition version (locker box with comic, sticker and dodgeball) for a long while now and haven't even unwrapped the game yet. Got it at a pretty crowded game owning time (FFXII + old copy of Klonoa + Wii) so I haven't had any time at all to even think about getting it. Buttttt since then I've heard nothing but positive things about it so when I finally get to play it, it will be great.

toli its not as epic in scale as the gta games...but it is better in certain areas. first off the controls...especially the aiming is better. has a good enough story and a ton of varied of objectives, its a good game to suck up an hour or so a day. even has boss battles.

Yeah just got it the other day. It's a lot better than I thought and has some of the features that the psp Gta games don't. Like buying drinks and mix and matching clothes.

DAntae

sometimes you need select clothing to begin new missions and such. game is a lot deeper once you unlock the town as well. if it was strictly confined to the school campus it would indeed suck.
