I was just curious as to which protagonist of all the GTA games from 3 on up you guys consider best. For me, it'd have to be Tommy Vercetti...he has the tough guy feel and look but they don't go overboard with it. He's just a very cool character.

Possible choices:
Claude
Tommy Vercetti
Carl Johnson
Toni Cipriani

Tommy Vercetti is my favorite protagonist, too. He's got that Italian gangster coolness about him. Very likeable, even though he has the tendency to be a homicidal maniac. He's also got the best voice actor to portray him (Ray Liotta). Nothing negative to say about him.

Carl isn't your average GTA protagonist. I like him too much to think of him as a "bad" protagonist or the crazy murdering type (even though he does kill a few)...he's just looking out for his hood. Still a great character, though.

Tony Cipriani is just as good as Vercetti, although I've only played LCS once. Need to play it again to give a decent say on him. Claude, too. Can't say much on those two :\

I agree with skittle. Tony was cool, he was suave, he was ruthless, he was voiced by Ray Liotta, Tony Vercetti is tha man!

I didn't like Vercetti. I recall a few of his lines being cliched to the point of annoying. The acting was great, the lack of compassion behind his actions was believable and his motiviation was great, but he was one giant walking stereotype. CJ had depth. CJ was awesome.

Tommy Vercetti. I think CJ is the worst, but that might be because I think GTA:SA has a horrible storyline. I don't liike all that 'hood'-stuff. I like the mafia setting from GTA3 the best.

Tony Vercetti, General? O.o

I liked Claude. Mute badass. But mute badass gets stale fast.

Tommy was all right but never really stuck out to me aside from being Liotta-coolness.

CJ had personality and was kind of trying to do the "good" thing which I found admirable in his character, and he was fucking hilarious. I like him the most. Neb's right, he's got depth.

Toni was also a cool guy, I really liked getting to know his character. It was a surprise, he was a reliable and kind of compassionate guy (the stuff with Toshiko was rockin').

C.J. San Andreas by far the best game ever made. I hope there is a psp sequal on it that also includes half the features in the ps2 version. I bought a ps2 just for San Andreas and it was fucking brilliant. C.J definetly the most interesting character with the most interestin story.

CJ was a good character but i couldnt get comfortable playing as a black man. in fact, half the time i'd get shot on purpose just outta spite towards his race. and tommy spaghetti loses for being a wop

mute white guy who couldnt swim or exit moving vehicles however, was THE MAN :bang:

I agree that Carl was the most in-depth character and I also admire his moral values, I guess I just think Tommy is the guy I'd like to play another game as. All the characters in the series are great, though.

Another vote for C.J, a likeable and funny character. Tommy just got to be a litttle too sleazy and too much of a dick at times. And so that mute asshole comes 2nd. I haven't played LCS.

Hmm...might have been my recent replaying of Vice City that made me say Tommy, but you guys have made me change my vote to CJ. As I said before, he's too darn likeable and really does looks out for his hood and homies. That's quite a bit of character right there.

Don't know why I didn't just choose him on that small blip right there... :-X

Mute guy

CJ is an interesting character... regardless of race, he's heavily, religiously anti-drug, but at the same time is incredibly violent and somewhat mysoginistic. They did a really good job building him up.

That being said... fucking mute guy is the man, and pulls off a number of incredible feats of both skill and influence without ever talking. Loved him to death.

Vercetti was fun, but was part of the problem with Vice City - too ugly and too pornographic. Just a sleazy character.
