Who do you think is the greatest football player ever? Any position, just who is the greatest in your opinion?
With out a shadow of a doubt I gotta say. Emmitt Smith, I watched him his entire career, what an awesome player. He holds almost ALL rushing records. And his 18,355 rush yards says enough.

Fine backs, both of them, but I'll take Jim Brown. Thank you and goodnight.

Take Emmit, take Walter, take Jim Brown I'd rather have Gale Sayers or Barry Sanders. Both had careers that ended well short of their expected greatness leaving us to wonder.

barry sanders was better than brown, payton, or smith. smith's career has been more about longevity than sanders' was. i don't know many people that wouldn't take sanders over smith in their primes.
either way, i'm going with jerry rice.

Jim Brown best ever.
Best I ever saw was Barry Sanders.
Emmitt not even in discussion for either.

Willie McGinest isnt even in the top 10 USC prospects of all time.

well the first dude brought up records, and Willie has made the most post-season sacks which I consider to be an important record, so that's why I chose my answer.

Most post season sacks was your basis for picking the greatest football player of all time? Did I read that correctly?

yes, I think defense in big games is more important than running up big yards in the regular season. maybe if that guy mentioned emmitt smith's pst-season yards I could understand.

You should really consider not contributing to anymore NFL threads.

eli manning is the greatest player ever, because he's thrown for more playoff yards than any other QB from new orleans with the initials ENM in NFL history. can i get an amen?

How did I get worked up? All I did was challenge your incredible opinion that Willie McGinest is better than Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Dick Butkus, Reggie White, Johnny Unitas, Dan Marino, Walter Payton, OJ Simpson, Marcus Allen, Jerome Bettis, Tony Dorsett, Earl Campbell, Eric Dickerson, Steve Largent, Ray Lewis or any number of players I may have forgotten.
On the all time list, I have Willie McGinest ranked about 23,865 right behind Earl Morral and right in front of Kareem Abdul-Jabar.

if you read my 2nd post you would understand my answer was a response to the guy who made this thread that I disagree with using a record to prove a player is the best ever. There are so many records out there, who is to say rushing is more important than receiving, who is to say receiving is more important than sacks, who is to say sacks is more important than field goals...etc.

except smith's record is actually a worthwhile, noteworthy, type of accomplishment that would give you a HoF spot without a doubt. playoff sack totals mean nothing as far as records go.

you obviously did not read the original post in this thread. It did not say "which player's record will get him a spot in the HoF?"

you obviously suck at arguments. my point is that, if you're going to decide who the greatest player of all time in a sport is, supporting an argument for a given player based on a record such as most career rushing yards is SIGNIFICANTLY more informed and better educated than "most career postseason sacks". how can one person be so dumb?

joe montana. 4 super bowl wins, 3 super bowl mvpsI'm really don't have all the stats in front of me, but a case could be made that Otto Graham was the best quarterback in NFL history, and it would be pretty convincing
:bang:
08-26-2006, 11:28 AM
ya, that post totally convinced me.
not to diss graham, but he only played in the nfl for 6 season, and half of them he had more interceptions than touchdowns
kevin
08-26-2006, 11:36 AM
yeah, graham's only overwhelming stat is his career record
:bang:
08-26-2006, 11:39 AM
and that's fine, and maybe he was the greatest, but i never saw him play. i've read lots of people that have argued that unitas was far better. what do i know? i know that montana was the best i ever saw at any position
kevin
08-26-2006, 11:43 AM
yep, and i was too young to see montana, so the best qb i've ever seen is brett favre. i guess it's all a matter of perspective.

im gonna post here about football.
The Eagles traded Mark Simoneau and a conditional 4th rounder to the Saints for Donte Stallworth.
Pretty good pickup, he probably vaults to the top of the Eagles receiving corp. He had a very quiet 70 catches for 945 yards last year.
and roarke. . . that's cold.

I have to say that marcus allen was the best all around back I ever saw play.
I chose brown for the reasons I listed...plus he could have played any position he wanted and been dominant. everyone he played with in college and the pros has backed that up.

The thread title is "Greatest Football Player Ever" ya fucking dunce. It says nothing about NFL. Someone from England, as I presume Lounge Fly is, may consider the word football to mean soccer as it does in every country but this one. George Best is probably the most underrated soccer player and arguably best football player ever. More than likely it was a poor attempt on Lounge Fly's part at being funny but the point remains.
All that said, you are an idiot to even insert a player like Willie McGinest into a discussion with the other names in this thread. In fact, George Best is a better football player than Willie McGinest.
You prove with every single post that you know jackshit about football, yet you continue to post on the subject. Here's a tip for you. Shut the fuck up.
mike_donnelly
08-31-2006, 06:02 AM
all Lounge Fly needed to do was read the other posts to see it was NFL, and if you read the very first post you would see that they asked for my OPINION! you must be so stupid that you don't understand what the word "opinion" means.

Do you read the black parts of posts? Here is a quick excerpt from 5 minutes ago:
More than likely it was a poor attempt on Lounge Fly's part at being funny but the point remains.
If your opinion is that Willie McGinest is the greatest football player ever then not only do you deserve every ounce of ridicule you get on this thread but you also deserve to be knocked across the fucking skull with a lead pipe.
