View Full Version : New UK Censorship Guide

Recently, in the UK discussion thread, I said:

And by the way, since we were mentioning cuts earlier, do you think we need a new censorship site now that The Britsons is frozen? I'd like to see one, but I don't know who'd maintain it. I would be willing, but I have no experience of website building past Geocities and a little bit of Dreamweaver.

Today, Butters, owner of www.thebritsons.co.uk got in touch with me about this.

"Hello NHC,

This is that handsome Butters fella who left you all months ago. I sure
showed that Hitler that us jews can live without message boards. I know many
of you 'regulars' in the UK thread probably threw your memberships away
after I left. I knew the board would go up in a riot after I left. But for
those of you left I've heard there has been talk about how my site is
literally a brick wall. (get it? 'cause I went off my head and give it a
brickwall background)

If anyone wants to make another website for censorship, you may feel free to
use all the information I had compiled at http://www.thebritsons.co.uk for
the first 16 seasons of the show. It is just about a complete listing of all
the censorship that was made in the first 16 seasons and 2 of the first
episodes of Season 16. (also to my understanding there was a cut made in a
recent episode about Marge having something written about God ...? I'm not
sure I have not seen the show since I watched that one episode where Lisa
snorted some cocaine off Nelson's back and started chasing Jimbo around the
school yard whipping him with a bike chain because she wanted a sack full of
buttplugs). Of course if anyone decides to use my information, I do require
some sort of credit (merely by my screenname 'Butters' or my other lesser
known name 'Sex God'). With that said, I think that my domain name expires
in the middle of September, so anyone wishing to do so might want to save
that information before October. If anyone wants to make a site, I suggest
that if scottvivian or simplysimpsons, if they still post, give you pointers
on the site you take them. As they're probably two of the best HTML editors
on the NHC... alright, I'll admit they're the only decent ones who viewed
the UK thread when I was on.

For those who have any interest at all in my life, you can feel free to
check at my even crapper blog where I rant about how I have a cute
girlfriend and you probably don't at http://blog.thebritsons.co.uk . It's
updates are a little seldom now, but I do intend to have a new complaint
about modern society up by the end of the week.

And I have one last question I need addressed to the NHC... is that
Veryjammy still a gay? If he is, I need to find out if it's common practice
amongst homosexuals to cum all over a photo of Alex Turner of the Arctic
Monkeys? I was not only worried about the fact that he was doing it over an
Arctic Monkey, but also the fact that he was doing it while he was live on
air on the radio.

- Butters. The King of Sex

P.S. For those wondering the Last.fm signature on my profile may display
music you wouldn't have thought a cool dude like I would listen to. You now
have confirmation that it isn't an error on behalf of Last.fm. It is in fact
the music of my cute girlfriend who I was just wanking off while thinking
of. (speaking of wanking off, I still think about Homer_Thompson in 1/3
wanks.)"

So, is there anyone that wants to help get this up and running? I would be happy to maintain it, but as I said before I have little experience.

I was going to mention this in the UK discussion thread, but I am very interested in taking this over, it's a fantastic site!

As I said in the UK thread, I was planning to do a guide ages ago for SNPP, but it kinda fell by the wayside. If no-one else bothered I might give it a go in the future, but I'm sure someone will..

I think Simpson Crazy may be a good idea, as Scott mentioned in also in the UK thread. I'll play a part in assembling material that wasn't on The Britsons if anyone needs me to. I have an old unofficial episode guide with cuts in, so we can also list things that used to be cut by mid-90's Sky. Also, it has some vague mentions that aren't on The Britsons, that can maybe be included. For example, in some cases it talks about royalty and car crash references cut in the wake of Princess Di's death that aren't specified, but it's worth mentioning them.

Interesting. I had no idea British television was so finicky. Does this have something to do with the time of day the show airs? Do you guys get the uncut episodes on DVD?

Rich Uncle Skeleton
08-11-2006, 05:30 PM
The episodes are uncut on DVD.
On Channel 4 (terrestrial) the episodes are shown at 6pm.
On Sky (satellite/cable) the episodes start at 7pm.

Adam, do you think Butters would zip the whole site and email it to me? How did you contact him?

Butters emailed me. I have no idea whether he would or not, I suggest that you email him. I think that his address is still in his profile.

It does air at other tmes though; 9pm for new episodes on Channel 4, and often later (8-9pm) and earlier (9/10am) slots on Sky One.

I'd be willing to co-work on a new censorship site (adding the content from the Britsons with Butters' permission of course), if anyone else is interested. I would need a bit of help with finding new cuts to add, though!

I hope there will eventully be media of the parts that were censored just like the old censored Simpsions website.

Butters has edited the page to put on a little message about a new owner, plus links to more pages that might be useful, including the old cuts, which will be worth including.

If you need them, I have the Sky One premiere dates of every Simpsons episode from mid-1995 to present day, and several from before then. Especially in regards to Season 5, which is almost complete - think I'm only missing Homer Goes to College and Treehouse of Horror IV there.

Here's an old version of the site that includes some stuff not currently on the website, might be useful:

No, it's Butters' old version of the Britsons, then known as Simpsorama. Snipsons, as I understand it, was completely different.

Cut from Marge's Son Poisoning on Sky is when Marge purchases the tandem bike and then takes her to-do list out, but we cut away before we see the list (presumably because of the 'Holy Land' bit, although I don't know why they didn't just blank it).

I also recall reading something about Moe skating through the cars in Simpsons Christmas Stories being cut...?

Other than that I don't think anything else from S17 was cut, and it doesn't look like anything else will be (apart from possibly Homer testing out a bulletproof jacket by shooting himself in The Monkey Suit, and since they unbanned The Cartridge Family that's probably stretching it).

Whatever happened to The Snipsons then? The old address was:

I know it's not up anymore, but I was under the impression that it was a pretty good cut guide as a book I own that lists cuts lists it as a reference.

No, it'll be good I think. If there are any episodes which aren't listed on the episode list, I can find out the nature of the cut from my book that lists all the Snipson cuts

Heh, I remember that 'I'm gonna haul ass to Lollapalooza!' cut in Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming. As the previous 'haul ass' scene had also been cut, it made what I remember thinking as the weirdest episode ending ever - Grandpa rides in on a bike, says "Hi, everybody!" and the Simpsons say "Here we go again!". :-O

Like most weird Simpson cuts, I presumed it was just the writers being really surreal and making a joke that made no sense.

Adamm R)))

Pocket Eseentials: The Simpsons by Peter Mann. It's an episode guide I bought back in 2000 because I had no internet access and it listed season 11. Plus, it only cost £2.99. It has brief details of all of the cuts on The Snipsons site in the book (some as brief as just "language", some are more in depth).

One of the cuts pages works:
http://web.archive.org/web/20000302191919/www.deprofundis.freeserve.co.uk/simpcuts-3.html - and it appears to have several entries that the Bristons doesn't (in the old cuts section). I will send an email to the owner of that site, to see if he can help at all. Maybe he still has the other two pages.

Think I've just remembered a cut that isn't on any of these sites. I think the bit in bold was cut out of Dog of Death on Sky about four years ago:

Brockman: "Can you get a shot of me? *photo appears in corner* There we go. In other news, er...tragic mix-up today in Cleveland...many people killed...er...g'bye!"

Weird that it's not listed anywhere, though...is it just my faulty memory, or did they really cut that out? I assumed at the time it was because of 9/11, but even if it was it'd be a pretty weird cut.

I remember a cut from "Bart Gets Famous" after the Asian Tsunami disaster, where Bumblebee Man says (in a British accent), "A tidal wave in Kualalumpur has killed 150 people", is that what you were thinking of?

Anyhoo, we should probably continue this in the UK thread in GD, this isn't really web news anymore.

As a UK viewer, I also look forward to seeing the new site listing Simpsons cuts when it is eventually set up by someone.

I was really disappointed when 'the britsons' was no longer updated because I used to like being able to watch a new episode and then go onto this site afterwards to see if anything had been removed from the new episode by Sky (sad, I know, but I am a big fan of the show!).

Good luck to whoever decides to start up the new 'Censored Simpsons' website. :)
