View Full Version : Zelda fans, should we sink this low?

Well, a new Zelda title is out(or has been for sometime now), but the title doesn't contain Zelda, nor Link. No, this game is a spinoff of Zelda, that focuses on Tingle, that annoying asshole whose always calling me a fairy, he's the fairy. But, the title is even stranger. Freshly Picked Tingle's Rose-Colored Rupee Land. Basically, the game is you are an asshole(Tingle) in this one land who gets called upon by a fairy who will grant him access to "Rupee Land," but there is a catch. He has to collect a huge amount of rupees and give it to the fairy. Rupees are very important in the game not just becaue the main objective is to give them to the fairy, but they are also used as currency, and even Tingle life energy. If you run out of rupees, Tingle dies(I'm going to be running out of rupees a lot when I play this game  ).
However, the game gets even more bizarre. You cook your own food in the game with the stylus by having to mix the pot fast enough(if you don't, the ingredients burn). You also talk on a computer(yes, a computer), and in one of the stills seen on Nintendo Japan's official site for it(link below) he is seen being hit by an airplane. But there are some positive aspects to the game. There are dungeons(where you must hire bodyguards because the dungeons are too dangerous for you), and possible the most interesting thing about the game is you never know how much things will cost, essentially having the game focus on barter and trade.
So know I ask you, Zelda fans, like me, should we sink this low and buy this game. Sure, it has appealing aspects, but most of the game is downright insane. The jury is still out for me, but I want to know what other Zelda fans think. The poll is pretty basic so please elaborate in your posts.
P.S. There is a vote right now on Nintendo.com(link below) on whether or not this should be released. I'm sure people will vote yes, but if you really feel compelled to vote the link is below.

One thing I never understood was why everyone hates Tingle. I mean, yes, he's a total weirdo, but that's why he's interesting and funny imo. It annoys me a bit how so many Americans on the internet (this isn't directed at you MattG) have no sense of humour and would seemingly prefer for all their games to be filled with identikit muscle men toting big guns. People's reasoning for disliking Tingle seems to revolve around the fact that he's a grown man who wants to be a fairy or something. Yeah that's weird I guess, but that's why he's unique and humourous. Does it threaten people or something, to have someone like that in the game? I dunno, I think a lot of video game fans have a sense of humour bypass sometimes. I've read up on the game and think it looks quirky, fun and different.

Don't you think you're a bit biased here jammy :D
Anyway I have nothing to contribute, I've only played Ocarina.

I think people put way too much thought into this character. Its like an obsession for some of his critics.

I was okay with Tingle in the Zelda series. I doubt I'd want to play a whole game about him though.
I would need to hear more about it before I decide but it doesn't look that interesting to me.

Quiet you :D
In all honesty though, I find him funny and I like the fact he's twisted and weird. Better than a ton of bland characters out there.
Tingle is a shitty character because he's lame. Simple as that.

and who the hell is tingle? i mean, the name kind of rings a bell, but he obviously didn't offend me all that much because i can't even remember what part of the game he appeared in. (i'm speaking of OoT).

Is Tingle not in Zelda 1, 2, or Ocarina of Time?

its a ds game...back the hell off everyone. it might sell a few units but it won't have a huge following. I for one may be one of those who picks it up. what the hell.

i was seriously just asking who tingle is. i'm pretty sure i remember him from OoT, but i can't remember the context. i want to know what's the big fuss about him.
edit: nevermind. i looked on wikipedia and i guess he wasn't in OoT. i must be remembering him from majora or wind waker. i don't remember getting pissed off about him, though.

Tingle made his first appearance in Majora's Mask for the N64, and I believe he sold maps. He later appeared in Wind Waker for the GameCube in which he aided you in your quest to reassemble the Triforce by supplying their locations to you as long as the price was right (if I remember correctly). He also has a somewhat smaller role in The Minish Cap for the GBA, but it was more of a mini-game situation. When you sit back and look at all his appearances, it's pretty obvious that the series has grown fond of him as a character, what with his continuous roles.
I personally think he can get a little annoying at times, but I don't think so little of him to simply right off this solo adventure of his without even looking at gaming reviews or finding out more about the gameplay. If anything I applaud Miyamoto for not giving up on this silly character (grating as he may be). If there's one thing I like most about Miyamoto it's that he's someone who isn't afraid take things less seriously than others (the recent Mario RPG games on the GameCube, GBA, and DS had alot of tongue-and-cheek laughs, and many of the Wind Waker's characters had very charming and playful personalities). Today's games have so many hyper-realistic visuals and dark or serious moods to their settings that it's nice to see a game that instead tries it's hand at some goofy fun. Who knows, maybe the game will be terrible, but right now I'm thinking of giving this game a shot.

Haha, no I understand what you're saying. And I don't actually hate Tingle as much as I kind of gave off in my first post, although I do find him annoying. But the thing I am more concerned about is the game. The fact that it incorporates modern technology, stirring ingredients, and the fighting style, which I didn't mention, which is a cartooney brawl. I will still probably play the game(I wish you could rent DS games in more video stores), but I just think some of it sounds foolish.
As for why, he annoys me, I really am not to sure, I think it is partially his personality, and I think that might just be because the humor in Tingle is not something I find hilariously funny. That is all.

Why the hell are people getting worked up over this? Just listen to DAn and all will be well.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with a Tingle game. Looks like fun and a nice change of pace from the usual Zelda canon. I'd give it a shot...if I had a DS :\ And that crazy Japanese site put a smile on my face :D

Probably because we don't spell humor with two U's. Warned.

I think I would need to know more about it first. I've been out of the gaming loop lately. But I probably wouldn't buy it. The Zelda series is full of great, quirky, and yes, humorous characters but Tingle is simply not one of them for me. He was just kind of irritating. I enjoy much of the comic relief in the Star Wars movies but I still hate Jar Jar, because he's not funny. Same principle.
Of course I would need a DS anyway, and right now I don't feel like spending any money on handhelds. Consoles are enough, especcially considering how much they cost.

I don't mind Tingle, I think the character is funny. Regardless if I like him or not, the game dosn't sound like my bag, of course, maybe once more stuff is revealed it will attract my attention.

tingle is ok in small doses. however the game could be a hoot despite an annoying character. think star fox. he is a douche of a character but aside from the horrible adventure game, they tend to be a blast.
