As you know after season 8 is released on DVD, the next four seasons will have commentaries in which Mike Scully has a big role in and I think that the majority of members will be at least be renting these DVDs. How are you looking forward to Scully taking centre stage? I recently watched all of his previous commentaries, to get an idea of this. For anyone who wants to do the same, they are:

Lisa's Rival
Lisa On Ice
Two Dozen And One Greyhounds
Marge Be Not Proud
Team Homer

Obviously he doesn't say as much in these, but it gives you an idea of what Scully is like. He seems pretty enthusiastic, like most commentators. He tells a few good jokes and stories, his jokes seem kind of Mirkin-esque (Mirkin in the commentaries anyway) and I think that he will do a good job. Good luck Mike!

I look foward to the dvds in general.

"Mike Scully Commentary Anticiaption Thread"
That's a really weird name for a thread :-/ .
I wouldn't mind seeing what he has to say about "The Principal and the Pauper" ;) .

That's a Bill and Josh season 8 holdover episode, not a Scully. Unless your winking guy means that you knew that.

I have to admit, I am a bit curious to see what he'll say...

He'll probably take all the antagonism with a grain of salt. The only commentary where he'll probably acknowledge the fan's distaste will be for "Kill the Alligator and Run."

By all accounts, I hear that Mike Scully's a pretty witty guy, so his commentaries should be very amusing and entertaining. I doubt the irrational hatred of his episodes by some fans will be high on the list of things for him to talk about.

Most of the people to my knowledge have said "I thought it was fine, and I am surprised at the fan backlash."

but maybe I'm wrong.

MIKE: hi this is mike scully, executive producer. of the simpsons. not this commentary. (coughs) haha, and on my left we have--

MATT: thats your right, mike

MIKE: oh, right! haha, and on my right, we have the director of this episode -- john swartzwelder! no just kidding

MARK: this is mark kirkland. john's actually in hospital right now, having major surgery

MIKE: major surgery? more like... wait, really?

MARK: yes.

MIKE: ohh. ah... that's not funny

(silence)

MATT: great couch gag

MIKE: matt, please, we're grieving

Honestly, I'd prefer it if George Cauldron stayed and you (whoever you are) left.

No, I thought he was the executive producer for that episode, but I'll be looking forward to that commentary none the less. He would probably say something stupid like "Okay, you can all blame me on this one". I hope he'll be funny, though. I was really dissapointed with the Jim L. Brooks episodes. Nice guy, has stuff to say, but just not entertaining to listen to. :sorry:

That's hilarious.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the commentaries, as Mike Scully seems to be an okay guy even if he was a bad executive producer.

I think he and Al Jean will be joking about how we are all nerds for not liking the Jockey Elves.

What an odd thread. Honestly, on the commentaries he doesn't sound like a bad guy, just he didn't show run well. But, as said before, I'm guessing he will only mention the fans opinions of episode when there is a really strong hatred for it or it was an overwhelming success.

guys, someone has to leave

I'll go.

Actually, Tim Long (the writer of that episode) has basically said that he isn't happy with the jockey elves in retrospect, and that he was in a "really weird place" at the time he came up with it. He did say he likes the rest of the episode, though.

I predict long periods of silence, followed by interjections that have nothing to do with the actual episode. (MIKE: So, Matt, buy any lottery tickets this week?) Sadly, Sloppy Jimbo Xiu Xiu's little 'prediction' was funnier than a lot of Seasons 10-12's jokes.

I think Mike will do a great job with the commentaries. He seems to be a nice, funny person.

While I don't expect Scully to apologize for ruining the show or anything like that, I do hope they explain the writing process on some of of the more notably hated episodes. Tim Long may have admitted the Jockey Elves were a bad idea, so I want to hear why Scully approved it. Then of course there's Matt Groening, who I can't imagine let was silent when that idea was pitched.

While I must say that Scully is an excellent writer under the proper showrunner, he is a very poor EP.

I'm thinking they'll probably be fun to listen to, and I'm not really worried overall. As a matter of fact, there are some fans buying the DVDs just for these reasons, so I think he'll hold up well.
