Hi, I had a bit of free time so I set up a simpson themed google search site.

http://www.dohnet.com

I will set up a couple of rss news and forum post feeds soon on it aswell.

It was an idea I had back when I owned HS.TV but I never got round to it.

My plan was basically to have simpsons site that people could have as their homepage.

That's not a bad idea. Attractive and really simple design. It'd be cool if you could add some extra features on it in the future, like the RSS feeds.

Thanks for the feedback. I have updated the design and included your suggestions.

I have also just applied for the Simpson Channel RSS Feed.

Meh. It's just adsense.

Its not the adsense script. Its a different one.

All it does is send users through to google.

I like it a lot. Excellent, excellent work.

Edit: Actually, I don't think I do. I figured you had done some bit of coding to make the search a lot more useful for Simpsons-related searches, but that doesn't seem to have been done. Not really sure what the point of this is, except as a homepage for a complete Simpsons Channel nut.

im thinking that it should be a search that combines all the simpsons sites together, if something like that could be done...

Sure, that's easy to do. I will set it up.

I could have it set up so it only includes results from certain simpson websites in its search.

Which websites should I have?

Use the ones from this list

I love it (how come I didn't think of this).

I think you should add a FAQ or something that includes all the sites that are indexed.

All the websites are now listed on the about us page.

If your not there make sure you send me your site so I can include it.

It will take a while before every website has been indexed fully. The forums will take ages.

I have a new domain for it: http://www.simpsearch.com
I will still keep the dohnet.com pointing to the site if you like that domain better.

I really don't like the pop up for the about. I would just add an about link next to submit your site.

Hmm...well it's not too bad I suppose. The results that are returned are not always that great. For example, when searching for "episode guide" the first result is snpp.com's lists page rather than their episode guide. Doing an actual Google search of snpp.com (http://www.google.com/search?hs=CIy&complete=1&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&client=opera&rls=en&q=episode+guide+site%3Asnpp.com&btnG=Search) yields different results.

Also, for that search query, snpp.com has 5 results in the first 10, simpsoncrazy.com has 2. I'd suggest either limiting to 1 result per site, or do what Google usually does, and have 1 main result and 1 supplementary result. Don't know if any of this is possible with your set-up, but it's worth looking into.

I am working on my own custom search script. I should have it ready soon.

Would you allow your sites to be included If I had an image search feature as well?

Jim Jones
07-31-2006, 08:05 PM
I added my site. My only quam is that unlike google, multiple pages of a site are seperate results (instead of nested) , so the top 5 for "ralph wiggum" are five pages from That's Unpossible.

But good work either way.

Thats the problem I hope to fix with this new script.

Also your sites now included. it should only take a couple of hours for your site to be indexed.

I like the idea of an image search engine to go along with the regular one.

Wow, that's a great site idea! My only complaint is the look - since the site is practically just a search box, I honestly think it should have a more complex, graphical look to it. Nice!

I think the look is nice and shiny, as long as it's more like google than like yahoo, I'm happy :)
