I know this is old news by now, but I havnt seen a thread for it yet, so here we go. Grand Theft Auto IV will be released on the 360 at least simultaneously with any other systems (ie PS3) and there are rumours that it will be a XB360 exclusive. Sony's response to this was pretty much "We dont need GTA" so that backs up the rumours in a way. Even if it isnt exclusive to the 360 it will have exclusive content and will be expanded over Live.

Microsoft and Rockstar Games are proud to announce a strategic alliance to provide exclusive episodic content for Xbox Live®, giving the community ever-expanding gameplay experiences that simply aren't possible on other consoles.

"Through Xbox Live, we have a unique opportunity to reach out to our audience in new ways," said Sam Houser, executive producer and founder of Rockstar Games. "This strategic alliance allows us to craft experiences that fully leverage the on-demand distribution power and sheer size of Xbox Live."

"Few franchises have had the profound impact on our industry as Grand Theft Auto," said Peter Moore, corporate vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. "Grand Theft Auto IV in high definition on Xbox 360? We couldn't be more excited to have the title on our platform from day one.”

The agreement to distribute exclusive Rockstar Games content via Xbox Live highlights the publishing community's growing desire to feed gamers' insatiable appetite for downloading new high-definition experiences and playing online. Since Xbox Live launched, fans have logged nearly 1.8 billion hours playing online and have downloaded more than 18 million pieces of content in just the past six months.

Grand Theft Auto IV, the next-generation console debut of the genre-defining Grand Theft Auto franchise, is expected to be in stores for Xbox 360™ on October 16, 2007, in North America.

I'll never be able to afford PS3 until after several price drops (if you're gonna get a PS3, why not go for broke and get the fully loaded one instead of the shitty bare bones basic model?), so this is news that I'm really not bothered by. Gonna get a 360 sooner or later, so it's all good.

No GTA4 won't be X Box 360 exclusive. It's planned for ps3 as well it's all official but no one knows why sony didn't announce it.

Because I don't give a shit about high def and online capabilities.
I'm not going to be getting a proper high def tv for years anyway.

I hope it is a 360 exclusive, that would be fucking awesome. The game will be INSANELY great, and being able to download expansions on Live will be an added bonus.

I don't care if it's exclusive. It'll be "exclusive" to the 360 for a little while anyway since the game is out for both before the PS3 is even released. All reports I've heard were for simultaneous releases, from people at MS and Rockstar. Don't know why Sony hasn't said anything, but it doesn't bother me 'cause...I've got a 360..and I refuse to wait to play GTA games. So, ya know. 360 won this round. And this "downloads of episodic content" has me interested. Better not just be like "oh, you can buy a new gun to use!" or something.

why would anyone hope for an exclusive, when it belongs to both? that's pretty fanboy to the max.

Im guessing it will be along the lines of Oblivion where you can download entirely new quests, characters and areas. In fact seeing what the 360 is capable with an open ended game like Oblivion makes me salivate over what it could do with a GTA game.

Live opens up all sorts of possibilities for GTA. Take for example the radio in the GTA games. They record heaps of it but eventually it all starts repeating, but with Live, radio and music could be streamed straight from online, thus it could always be different and with fresh songs.
You could download new cars, new outfits and new weapons. and without a doubt new missions.

Theres good reasons to hope that its an exlcusive. Mostly because then its optimised for your system. As an owner of the original Xbox I was always annoyed at the fact that every multiformat game was basically a PS2 port when the Xbox was so much more powerful. Compare the quality of the exclusive XB games, such as PGR2 or Halo 2 to the multiformat games. That is why you'd hope for an exclusive.
I mean it happens even now with the 360. The exclusive 360 games are so much better then the ports of Xbox games.

Hope it's better than SA, which was a real letdown. So many poorly implemented new features, taking out some very entertaining past features, and a pretty awful soundtrack [unless you love rap, country, etc].

Wouldn't you then want it to be PS3 exclusive, though? Considering PS3 is undeniably a more powerful system than the 360.

I'll admit I do miss the rampages in Vice City. Granted SA had 'em too, but they were two player only...and I was the only one playing :\

I guess I'm the only one that thinks the GTA series the most over-rated game series of all time.

Hahahaha really.

I thought the new features in SA were great, didn't care that rampages were gone, although I kind of missed the police spike strip. Anything I was disappointed over losing since GTA:VC flew out of my head after playing SA. Maybe features were not entirely perfect but between the updated combat, grabbing onto ledges, and swimming, I always have a hard time going back to play old GTA games because I want all those features in there. It's also kind of pissing me off to play VC now with the beach and the really purty waterthat kills me just by walking in too deep.

Feature-wise, GTA:LCS was pretty awesome. It seemed to have a very nice mix of features from GTA 3 and VC, and even some small stuff from SA.It was surprisingly good for something that wasn't meant to be that big of a game. Plus...it had Radio del Mundo

I prefer SA like most here, but one thing I do like going back to GTA3 is that there is less responsibility and excess to get in the way of your actions. You don't have to worry about eating, working out, keeping track of gang territories, ect. Plus the world is much more contained, it's IMO easier to learn and appreciate the intricacies of the different areas than in SA, and there are far less large dead areas where little happens (Red Neck county, the desert). In a way it's similar to the Mario 64 vs. DK64 arguments, except where SA I felt still had a lot to offer DK64 was a bloated nightmare.

Wouldn't you then want it to be PS3 exclusive, though? Considering PS3 is undeniably a more powerful system than the 360.

Even if the system is second in power, the advantages of having the game exclusive still apply. Plus of course nobody has a PS3 yet. Though I honestly do not think it'll make that big a difference if it were exclusive to any system or not.

For me personally though, since I don't have a XBox 360 yet, it is advantageous to have it on both so I can more easily judge which system I'm going to finally plunge money into.

Why would I want an exclusive on a system that theres no chance in hell of me even considering ever buying?

True enough, I'm definitely more likely to get a 360 than a PS3. Just speaking in terms of power here. And if it was built on PS3 and then ported to 360 (instead of the other way around, which is the issue with the multiplatform games you talked about), it wouldn't be a big issue.

Thats actually one of the reasons Im happy the Xbox 360 was out first. I cant imagine the developers spending time and money developing two different versions of the same game on two machines of the same generation, so this time hopefully it will be the 360 being used to its full potential to match the PS3 version rather then getting games that are cut down ports that dont come close to using the power of it like in the last generation.

Eh, so I misread it. Whatever. It still ain't exclusive, opinion's the same, and I still haven't heard Sony say they don't "need" GTA.

San Andreas is the best, simply because of Toreno - easily the best character of any video game ever.

Thats what the head Sony guy said. Bullshit imo, half the people I know bought a PS2 just for GTA3.
"There's no question that having the Grand Theft Auto franchise helped us a lot and helped us sell some units, but I don't think the battle would be any different with or without Grand Theft Auto ... I don't think [losing GTA exclusivity] hurts us. ... I really don't."
Haha... helped us sell "some" units...

I loved the Toreno missions, best part of the game.

Good for you.

Toreno's missions were fun (especially Stowaway...badass), but I had a hell of a time completing N.O.E. because I really do suck at the flying. I eventually got better and finally managed to complete it (happiest moment of my playing SA at the time), but good God, did that mission hurt me for awhile :(

Everyone says that, and I don't understand why, I did it 3rd or 4th attempt, I remember the one before being more difficult.
