I got that new Nintendo DS yesterday, the DS Lite, for my birthday. It's the polar white model, and I've got to say that it's very sleek. Unfortunately, stores only carry the Polar White version in the United States, so I wasn't able to get one of those cool-looking black ones.

Anyways, the only game I've got for it right now is New Super Mario Bros. I'm looking for a couple of other games. Does anybody have any recommendations for good ones? I'm already looking into getting the Mario Kart and the Super Mario 64 games, and after them I'll have enough money to buy one more, maybe two if I get really inexpensive ones.

Try Big Brain Academy out. I hear it has more games than Brain Age.

Also, if you're willing to import, maybe you should check out Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan! Great rhythm game.

Being poor sucks. But I did like the Castlevania very much. Great game.

I'll just toss out a few here and editorialize a bit so you have an idea if they sound good to you or not. Trying to keep this list broad, but not too long.

"Advance Wars DS" - Turn-based strategy bliss. Skippable if you've played either of the GBA versions I guess.

"Animal Crossing DS" - Similar to the GC Animal Crossing, but with an emphasis on visiting other people's towns (though especially online visits can be tricky considering the meeting must be mutual through friend codes). Goals are player-made mostly though, and what's fun for some people here can be seen as just pointless chores for others. No NES games either, unlike the GC version.

"Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow" - Plays like pretty much every other handheld Castlevania based off "Symphony of the Night". I liked it more than the last two, and if you haven't played any of them it's definitely worth a look.

"Metroid Prime Hunters" - Designed more for multiplayer competition than its single player mode, so if you have no way to go online with the DS, this may not be as appealing. Not that the single-player is all bad mind you.

"Nintendogs" - Think tamagotchi for puppies, though with far more detail of course. Personally grew tired of it quickly, but maybe there's some subconscious puppy hatred here I'm unaware of. :(

"Phoenix Wright" - Liked it a lot, is worth checking out if you're a fan of point and click text adventure games. It's levels are episodic in nature, though threaded usually around certain continuous events, where you first must collect evidence pertaining to a case and later during the trials piece together how everything fits together to save the defendant, and often by extension learn more about the characters and overall story. It's anime-styled, often humorous, and very engaging.

"Trauma Center" - Similar animation style to "Phoenix Wright", but more of a medical/sci-fi drama. One of the few games where the stylus is clearly the best control scheme in doing the surgeries, though it is somewhat infamous for challenge.

Either Brain Age game is probably worth looking at too, though my current experiences with them is very limited. My impression is that "Brain Age" is more of a sincere attempt to measure brain age with quick problems and other activities whereas "Big Brain Academy" is a more traditional game.

I'll throw in a couple:

Kirby's Canvas Curse (Kirby's Magic Paintbrush in the UK). Never played a Kirby game prior to this. A really well-designed platformer which errs on the easy side but is a joy to control. You don't control Kirby himself but instead use the stylus to draw lines of paint to guide him through the levels. Sounds tricky in theory but afer 5 minutes it's second nature and there's some really fun subgames as well.

Osu Tatakae Ouendan - Really fun rhythm action game. Best game on the system imo, it has everything you could want from a DS game and the soundtrack is brilliant. Funny, well designed, challenging and makes unique use of the touch screen, there's nothing out there quite like it. Import only, though an English version with new songs and stories is due out later this year.

I own all three of those and they are all great. Warioware is fantastic. If you never played the original Resident Evil through, then Deadly Silence is a must have. If not for the fantastic game play, then for the dialogue.

My new aim: to try and make one post in this forum without mentioning the awesomeness of the RE1 dialogue.

I'll back that up, I've been playing this game non stop for months. be warned though...the hours can easily fly by. Good to play if you're travelling anywhere and can't be arsed with the scenery. Uber addictive :(

Ordered myself Resident Evil, Phoenix Wright and Mario 64 today. Neat huh?

I've been playing Mario & Luigi Partners in Time, which I was a bit disappointed with at first but it has grown on me quite a bit. Cute game.

The only other game I have is Bomberman. Single player Bomberman just doesn't feel right at all :-/

Luckily, Bomberman DS supports up to 8 players on one cart for some really great multiplayer. Start seeking out other DS owners!

In addition to most of the games mentioned here, I have to recommend Meteos as well. Awesome puzzler, and Tetris DS has fantastic WiFi battling (and up to 10 players for one cart)!

There're a hefty number of purchase-worthy titles on the DS (I have fifteen of them myself, including imports Ouendan and best-of-the-system Band Bros), and by the end of the year, we'll be getting a new StarFox, Zelda, and Final Fantasy III remade.
