Where do you guys get insperation for your designs? And I know I spelt inspiration wrong, sorry, lol, I am tired
magazines, television on-screen-presentations, cover art
for me it's just a matter of keeping it modern, and things like that in the public domain are what sets the trend of modern-ness, or at least informs you of what fonts and styles are in.

I don't usually get inspirations for my designs. I just play around with different concepts until I get something I like. I guess a few design elements on other sites may have influenced me a little too.

Most of the time mine just end up being a bunch of random things thrown together which I like look good. With ideas along the way from NickofTime.

I just go to Google; it's one of the most user-friendly sites on the Internet, while still being pretty.

Designs just sort of happen for me. Recently I've been trying to keep my designs simple, focusing on the content, instead of using flashy blues and greens.

I always focus my designs around the content. In fact I've had a design made for about 12 months now but have been working on organisation, tweaks and content layout for ages (not very regularly mind you, I've probably done more in the past month than in the previous 11).
But I get inspiration from all over the place for shell designs. If I see a layout or design I like on the web, I often take a screenshot to remind me at a later date.

Scott is so incredibly right; content layout is what makes a site well-designed, not the shell. I reworked every single page on SW over about two months and it was the most worthwhile thing I could have done.
my inspiration has always come from other simpsons sites. i've looked at sites like lets, simpson crazy, tsg, ds, and even snpp.
for me, it's about making a site functional, not gorgeous.

With the amount of content that's accumulated I try to keep designs flexible, especially with time as limited as it is these days. Aside from that I go with whatever looks good to me and seems easiest to navigate for the user.

All my favorite designs I've made have honestly come from my own dreams. When I did used to design simpsons sites, I would close my eyes for a while and eventually have an idea for some part like the navigation. Then I would draw it on paper (I feel this step is often overlooked and its a shame) and the rest would just kind of follow.
When this didn't work, I'd go to the folders archive of sites and look through that for inspiration.
Now I get really high and ideas just sorta come. Go figure.

Could any of you guys give me a slight idea? I'm really stuck
jon's comment reminded me that i've actually dreamt up some designs in my sleep. your imagination is your most valuable asset. if you can invision something spectacular, all it takes is a little graphical skill and you can achieve your wildest dreams.
though i must say, none of my designs are the result of a dream. the conversion from dream to reality has however allowed me to get motivated and excited enough to design, and perhaps some elements have made their way into my designs.

I do agree with you there alot of times when I am in school I just come up with Ideas, nothing really just inspiries me, I just come up with layouts in my head when I should be paying attension to school, I never draw them out on scrap paper because they look like crap and I never end up doing them, but when im doing it I think about what I want in the design, how I should present it, can I fit what I need, and how can I make it look just as good or even better than other designs?
