springfieldspringfield.co.uk (http://www.springfieldspringfield.co.uk/)
By far the best and at the same time most ignored piece of content in years is The Simpsons Virutal Pet at Springfield Springfield. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this game. It's professional, engaging, interesting - and still in the works! Download version 1 and see for yourself.

muntzmania.com (http://www.muntzmania.com/)
After five months of down-time The Muntz Monument is back up. It's reverted to version 1 though, so it may be a little hard to recognize for the newer webmasters. But there isn't exactly light at the end of this tunnel; in his words, "don't expect frequent updates, cos I am busier now."

keytospringfield.com (http://keytospringfield.com/)
Key to Springfield is now claiming a release in only 3 days. People should remain skeptical however. If you check out the archives, you'll find mention of it in the March 2005 thread, well over a year ago. Also, the 3 days page has been up since June 18.

lisasimpson.net (http://www.lisasimpson.net/)
Little Miss Springfield appears to have lost its domain. No word from Alicia, and it seems very likely this could mark the end of one the best character sites.

maggied.com (http://maggied.com/)
SimpsonsRanked now has all 17 seasons of episodes up and ready for rating. However, it's section of links is beginning to look more dated, as it includes 3 sites generally agreed to be dead. But who can keep up with this rate of closing?

dashdingo.com (http://www.dashdingo.com)
Go Simpsonic!, long thought to be dead, will be re-designing soon. However, with this overhaul, it will become officially non-update-oriented.

less meta-sites, more sites
I hate to complain about activity in the community, but there's a rising trend in meta-sites. The Simpsons Network and Digital Springfield are interesting, but where does it end? We need more original ideas, not another month-on links page.

sub-directories
At one point it could have been considered trendy or going-against-the-stream, but it's now obvious webmasters are just being cheap & lazy. /ralph and /snn were hip, in your face. Every other initialism and abbreviation that comes after a semi-successful domain gives off the idea that this site won't be around for long, and this is usually the case. Pretty designs and sub-domains are glaring examples of a lack of dedication. If they don't care enough to shell out $5 for someobscurereference.com, we shouldn't care enough to look.

Yeah, where did you hear about GS redesigning?

And that sucks about LMS, one of, if not the greatest character site ever.

Malachy, I'll agree on subdomains for general sites, but I fully empathize with contest or character sites going the subdomain route, it's better for both it and the general site in a lot of cases.

I'm saving up for college, and if someone wants to give me free hosting with a subdomain, why shouldn't I take the offer, so that my money can go toward my education, instead of at some already rich domain company? And who's to say that a site will be worthless because it doesn't have its own domain? I'm not buying a domain for my site, but I'm dedicated to it.

I don't see the problem with subdomains either. If you don't want to spend the extra money and still want to open a site, why shouldn't you be able to?

tim
06-30-2006, 08:20 AM
sure, you can have a subdomain if you are going for something unprofessional. but if you're running a whole seperate general site from the one you're being hosted by, you can't tell me that spending another $60 a year will prevent you from going to college. that's the dumbest thing i've ever heard.

it makes your site look that much more credible if you took the effort to spend the money.

well this list will have one more site on it next month cause im gonna make a site of my own, dont worry it has its own domain.

Okay, I hate to say it but we were unable to get it up on 21st June, reason is, I lost all my files when my laptop refused to boot up, and Nick the owner was working himself to death and had a nervous breakdown which nearly resulted in a heart attack.

Also, the new TCB design vIX wont be launching on the date I had in mind (17th July, which is my birthday) but I will decide on a new one later or just launch when ready.

Wait...the site gave him a heart attack? Please tell me I read that wrong.

Solid Snake

It almost gave him a heart attack, and no, you didnt read it wrong. The doctors said that if he continued to work at the rate which he did, he would have a serious heart attack. Though when I read it on MT2 I thought the same thing.

That's got to be the craziest thing I've ever heard. Yeesh, he must already have health problems then, because I've worked practically whole weeks straight and the only health problem I had was due to drinking way too much soda. In all seriousness, force him to take a month off. Tell him not to think at all about the site for an entire month. If you really have to (this is assuming you have physical access to his dwelling), take away his computer. Seriously, that is not healthy behavior, and he needs to take some time off.

Now that's what I call dedication to your site...wow. But yeah, it's a little unhealthy to be working that much.

Anyway, great read Malachy.

That's got to be the craziest thing I've ever heard. I agree. But he's what I call a perfectionist. So he works himself to death,

In all seriousness, force him to take a month off. Tell him not to think at all about the site for an entire month.
That didnt exactly go over well, he did say to me;

I'll take the rest of this week very easilly and just browse around for design elements that I like, maybe go to a spa or something and get a massage.

If you really have to (this is assuming you have physical access to his dwelling), take away his computer.
Would, but cant, he's in IL, which I'm in the UK. So there's like 6 hrs between us.

Seriously, that is not healthy behavior, and he needs to take some time off.
I agree on that one, but There isnt really a lot I can do. He seems to be back on board though and has relaxed a bit.

When I stressed myself out like he did, all I had was 5 headaches at once, and reduced my load... oy.

Anyway, dont tell Nick I said this (or put it elsewhere) but according to the calendar on MT2 that he's moved it to 21st July.

the simpsons channel has been doing some mid-year upgrades this week. this has also seen the departure of eric wirtanen from the staff, who had been absent from the workings of the site all year (and beyond).

it's just me tackling the entire site, now. not that it hasnt been too different for the last 12 months. but if anybody at this board who's good with news and website maintenance who gets a lot of exclusive information, eg, binky, would like to be the second in charge, just let me know and i'd be happy to have you on board.

I might as well note that although Serious Burns has lost it's hosting, it'll be back online fairly soon, maybe with some new content (if you're lucky).

as long as we're dropping news, tu has a redesign pretty much completed, and i'm working on a bunch of new content.

i'm looking to have it done before august, but i don't want to give myself a heart attack, so it will be up when i find enough free time. :-X
