View Full Version : Oblivion
I dont think theres been a dedicated Oblivion thread, and considering the scale of the game and the fact theres a few people here with it, it would be a good place for some Oblivion help and Q&A's. I know I need it, Im stuck in like half a dozen quests.
But first of all, Im a damn vampire. Is there an easy way to get cured? Also any tips for closing Oblivion gates? The ones that are part of quests are easy enough but when you just go into a random gate by yourself I just wander around forever trying to get to the top of that tower. Whats the deal with the hurricane gate, landslide gate etc?
Another quick one, how does one recharge magic items?

I dunno about the vampire thing, its f'ed up on the Xbox I think, the whole vampire deal is pretty buggy. Oblivion gates: open console, tcl, Enter, fly to the top. Just gotta figure it out the long and boring way on the xbox version.
You can recharge magical items with a soul gem that is enchanted with a soul, or a Varla Stone if you manage to find one, that will restore your whole inventory of magic items. There's also guys in the Mages Guilds that can do it for a price too, They have little Gem icons under their chat options.
Thanks blind psychic, I've been wondering what soul gems do. So I go into the inventory, and click on the soul gem and it will show me what to do? So far Im at level 14 but when it comes to magic and potions etc Im totally lost, I've just been concentrating on combat and armour.

Yeah, just use a soul gem that has a soul and it'll bring up a menu of items you have that are not full on charges and you can select which one you want to recharge. Different soul levels will determine how much of a charge it'll restore.

good thread. I have questions but I want to go over everything a couple more times before I fold and ask.
the only thing I don't dig is they don't let you carry as many items. elder scrolls I could carry tons of stuff.

Not an easy way, you have to do a ton of missions and talk to a bunch of people. A tip for being a vampire (i've been a vampire for about 80% of the time I've played so far). Only sleep when you have to level up. If you really need to wait and go to sleep (or have slept and are a vampire) go to either a fighters guild or mages guild. There are a bunch of people here that will occupy beds once it turns around midnight. The easiest way to bite necks by far. Just make sure to save right before you bite a neck (and/or pickpocket them) incase you get caught and get kicked out.

The easiest way is to pay up the ass from someone at the mages guild. The other way requires you to find a Varla Stones (located in those white stone dungeon things in Cyrodil). These are free and charge all your items at once. They are limited, so use them wisely and make sure you really need it, or you used up all the magic from every enchanted item you have.

Ending the vampire curse is a PAIN in the ass. I fought a whole cave of vampires and forgot to go pray at the chapel afterwards so I turned. I learned how to cure it from GameFAQS. Check it out:

The quest, like I said, is a pain in the balls. If you saved before you turned, just play from that part. However, if you want a new quest, there you go.

Can't go out in the sunlight, pretty much. If you do, it'll constantly damage you. Your appearance changes and people notice.
I haven't been a vamp yet, but I heard you can feed off of someone that will temporarily reverse the effects, but you also lose the benefits.

sounds fun to at least try out.
Being a vampire is fun for a while, and the vampire powers are good, but it soon gets annoying having to break into peoples houses to feed on them to go out in sunlight. And if you havnt fed you cant quick travel. The powers like vampire sight are useful though.

I bought this game, and was dissapointed with my computer. Everything is good enough to run it except the video card. SO I'm going to end up having to spend a few hundred dollars in order to run it...

I mentioed this in my last post. Just go to the Mages/Fighters guild (any of them), wait until 12am and just feed on someone. A good tip is to save right before you bite their neck incase someone sees you.
I didnt realize this until last week, but if you press select, you can choose to "wait" and pass time in the game.

aside from what blueguy mentioned or additionally, shopkeepers and other people wont sell stuff to you or talk to you, and their disposition will be wayyy down. prevents you from doing alot of stuff if youre obviously a vampire.
you look really cool though
