View Full Version : TSS: V2 (Now Open)
Seeing as the other thread got closed...
http://thesimpsonssector.tripod.com
Version 2 has just been opened. It includes:
Complete guide to Simpsons Comics reprints;
New section "Shows The Simpsons Watch" (not fully completem but mostly done)
Images (grabpics) made by Garret
Unique section; fanscripts, fantasy seasons, interview (with Jesse McCann)
Reviews; first review to cap things off is for EABF11 Scuse Me While I Miss The Sky; also interactive because you can submit your own reviews;
Interactive weekly poll on home page
Brand new design, header, etc to top it off. It was a lot of work, and there's still lots to come:
I&S Guide, ep guide, dvd/album/video guide...
Hope you enjoy it!
Also, quick note to the mods: the reason you thought my site hadn't opened yet was 'coz I'd taken everything down from it. Until a few weeks ago, the site was actually open but I was dissatisfied with it so I took it down and remade it ;)

Because I'm bored with the work I should be doing, here come loads of comments (anyone remember when brockman aka justin used to do these?)
Images - standard section, quality of your one image is good, but there is only one.
Simpsons Reprints - pretty nice section, plenty of information. Book descriptions are from
amazon, maybe you should say that on the page.
Shows the Simpsons watch - a very good page, exactly the kind of original content new sites desparately need.
Quotes - fun to read, but nothing overly special
Episode ideas - "After an accident which causes Homer to be impaled on hundreds of rusty springs" ... not really a good start, the rest are a better
Fanscripts - not my thing really but another nice addition
Interview - good stuff
Reviews - most of the review is just describing the plot of the episode, not saying what you thought of it...
Design:
There is a horizontal scrollbar, and a big gap at the left. You need to sort that out. I guess that's the kind of thing you get for using tripod and not learning HTML.
Anyway, it's definitely a lot better than last time I saw it. Good job.

Better than last time definitely. Scott's covered most of it. Oh, and is that my image I see in the header? ROCK ON

<Generic comment about getting the hell off of fucking tripod>
It's not bad overall. The design is really simple, but it's not ugly to look at. As Scott mentioned, the review isn't that good. There isn't really much analyzing there, and you don't even give an actual grade. I really like the Shows the Simpsons Watch page, that's some great unique content. The one grabpic you have is good, but the thumbnail is huge, and obviously, you've only got one. I would look through more of it but those popups are ridiculously annoying. You're really going to lose visitors from that. At least move to freewebs, it's not great but it's far less aggravating to your visitors than tripod. This is definitely the best you've had so far, keep working at it and adding content and this could become a really good general site
Better than last time definitely. Scott's covered most of it. Oh, and is that my image I see in the header? ROCK ON
Yeah I sent you an email requesting if I could use it...
For Scott: thanks, I'll try to do the next reviews better. The only thing is I haven't got a horizontal scrollbar in my browser when I preview/view the site...hmm...oh, and yeah I'll say the descriptions are from amazon.
Grissom: thanks too! i cant actually remember getting popups when i look at it...it may be because o use it all the time i dunno...
Thanks again guys!
EDIT: Jordan from iSimpson has given me hosting, and Bronya from KLS has made a design. The only problem is, like Scott said, I don't really know HTML. I know the basic ones for bold, size, font, italics, etc...is that all I need to really know though?

Yeah, I agree with Scott and Grissom. You have made some HUGE improvements. I too get a horizontal scroll bar. This design is much better. Great to see some orginial stuff IE the shows the Simpsons watch. Great stuff. Keep it coming! ;)

HTML isn't too hard to work with if you know the basics. I haven't memorized a ton of coding stuff, but with tutorials and stuff I can code a whole website. If you really want to improve your site, learn PHP. There's a couple good tutorials on DS for that, and believe me, it's way easier than doing everything page by page
I'm using your tutorials from DS on a scrap site of mine so I can practice a bit more.
If you go there now, the homepage says the next new section that's coming up. It should be finished within a few days.
...alright if you cant be bother then highlight:
A section dedicated to the fantasies that the Simpsons have had through the episodes (flushing meadows, under the sea, etc)

That would probably be enough to see you though. Try http://www.lissaexplains.com - even though it says it's for kids, it's a really useful site.
I just found out I have to download a program called Smart FTP or something according to Jordan...the only problem is i'm not allowed to download...
BTW, thanks for the link Scott. I'm having a look at it right now.

If you're not allowed to download programs, don't expect to get much done other than a simple design and text. Grabpics, wallpapers, etc. all require a program like Flash or Photoshop. And you will need something similar to CuteFTP to manage your site's FTP. I would talk with your parents about that and see if they'll change their minds
I begged, I screamed, I kicked, I yelled.
They're thinking about it.

not allowed to download? Sounds like something hitler would do.

06-13-2006, 11:46 PM
lol, nice joke but try not to use hitler, it can be offensive to German people
to respond to your pm question about simpsonschannel headlines, you can use them but your site needs to be php for the code to work.

Lol, forgot about that dude. Yea, well all that Nazi topic is kind of overall offensive to everyone unless they liked him. I just don't think that using figureheads as destructive as he was is a very nice way to talk. But, cary on lol.
i think if you get offended about someone mentioning hitler on a message board, you need a fucking life.
i'll see myself out.
edit: oh yeah, decent site. nav was difficult for me to find originally, but i eventually stopped being stupid and found it. the sooner you get off of tripod, the better.

Exactly. Much more offensive things have been said than my joking reference to a fascist historical leader and dictator in comparison to a very ridiculous and dictator-like restriction on something like downloading.
In summation: I do what I want

Oh ivan, when is your new hosting going into effect?
No idea yet, sorry. Gee my parents take a long time to think...
Anyway, I should probably wait until it's actually updated, but tomorrow there will be a NEW grabpic, as well as the Simpsons Fantasies section for you to look at.

Simpsons Fantasies section is excellent, another addition of unique content. Unfortunately your images section doesn't follow the same standard...
Yeah i know. i really wanted to upload them in the PNG format, but Tripod doesnt support it (*insert rave from other members on how i have to get off tripod*)...Tripod also screws up GIF images, so I had to settle for JPEG.
Stay tuned, another new section coming soon. Watch this space.
Great work Ivan. It's great to see you've come up wtih some unique content (the fantasies and what the simpsons watch sections). Originality is what most simpsons sites lack these days. Maybe resize your main site logo so its not as long horizontally, so we dont get the horizontal scroll bar. Great work for a first site, ideally when you can though, get the hell off of tripod.
Few clarifications for your TV page however.
Dennis Franz is the star of the telemovie about Homer. And isn't the title "Homer S: Portrait of an Ass-Grabber"?
Godfrey Jones is the name of the Rock Bottom host
America's Funniest Tornadoes, you have "Homer Viewers.."
A few other shows that they've watched include:
"Don't Go There!" and "Talk To The Hand", and you could also include "Home Improvement" and "Married..With Children" (although it IS the NASA guy who watches them, but they obviously exist in the Simpsons universe)

Bandwidth: Unlimited (Meaning I'm not totally sure)
Other:

Thanks.

OK, i'll change it now
Hahaha I just saw the "Homer viewers" thing. it's meant to be "HOME viewers" but im used to typing homer.
Mike, i'll talk to you whenever you're on msn next
OK,
so today, there's about 10 new grabpics, the new review is up (for Marges Son Poisoning), the new section (Location Location Springfield) is up (pictures will be added later). when i get home from school i'm going to make the header smaller, to eradicate the horizontal scrollbar once and for all...

honestly, why would your parents disallow you from downloding things? viruses and stuff? if so, that's ridiculous, it's not hard to avoid viruses.
i know. we get free downloads as well...but they dont know much about the net so they think it'l cost and that it will give the computer virusses and stuff...thats the only reason i started with tripod in the first place...

Any idiot can avoid downloading a virus, surely? Just use reputable sites like download.com.
grissom
06-28-2006, 08:54 AM
Scott's right, that's ridiculous. As long as you don't download a ton of spyware and shit on purpose, you're not going to get a virus.
i'm changing my site to be more of a review site, but i'll keep the other content (and will continue making new content too), Gorak can have the grabs back though :P
also, thanks to mike, i am now going to be hosted at The Simpsons Home.

oh fine then

OK, some new reviews today. There's a new episode one, for Last of the Red Hat Mamas, some ones for new comic books in Australia (simpsons #115, bart #19, futurama #19, best of the simpsons #39, best of bart #5, etc) and some for books (bart simpsons guide to life, complete guide, etc)

Yeah I used that with the version at muntzmania.com and for some reason it won't let me or Mike log in on the FTP program so I'll have a go with Net2FTP
EDIT: yep, the FTP program wont let me log on, but Net2FTP does.
