i'm trying to work out some of the basics of editing before i start my first video project for school.

i use a program called Ulead, my mom got it. At the bottom timeline there are 5 different lines- video, overlay, title, voice, and music. The video line won't let me adjust where the clip starts, and automatically puts it at the beginning, fucking up everything i'm trying to do. the only way i can put wipes in is if its in the video line. is there anyway to adjust where my clip starts, or am i just fucked over by a crappy program?

I used to have Ulead, it was okay. Very confusing.

adobe premiere >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ulead. that's all i can really say to help you. if you have a peer-to-peer program, try to download it. it's the program i've had the easiest time with, by far, and it should have very specific features to help you with those problems.

final cut bitches

never used ulead but there's no way it would be impossible to arrange clips. that's... what editing is. just use the help/tutorial, you probably have something checked that automatically arranges clips at the beginning for some reason.

well, my friend is gonna let me borrow Roxio, which is supposed to be easy. i'm thinking my mom is cheap, so i got a crappy program.

edit- well roxio is turning out just fine. i've got a hold of it, so now I can make crappy school movies about ressurecting Tennessee Williams in order to learn more about his life and works.

I use Sony Vegas, it's pretty nice.

as far as 'free' programs go, Pinnacle Studio is the one I liked best on PC. though iMovie and Fimal Cut own any PC editing software out there.
