Hi to everybody
in this really awesome forum that i've been lurking for a while. I think you are the best forum about our favourite family around!
Just a brief presentation.
I'm AltoMelto, Italian, been fan of the simpsons since they have been first aired in italy in 1991. I have been a member of the italian simpsons newsgroup (it.fan.tv.simpsons) for many years, and, together with friends from the newsgroup we founde, back in 1998, SNIPP http://www.snipp.org (thought as the italian version of SNPP) where the extra I doesn't stand for Bring your own Beer, but stands for Italian. SNIPP is still active with (unfortunately) me as the only left webmaster, but i'm proud to say it's the oldest italian Simpsons Website, and is still active!

Here comes my small proposal. Since I'm really impressed by the quality of this forum and the width of its content, and by the fact that is supported by almost all the important US/English Language Simpsons websites, i'd like to ask the administrators if it will be possible to open a small section of the forum for italian language discussion, so to have the possibility for italian simpsons fans to access the width of knowledge present in this forum, and to have a place to meet themselves and talk in Italian (since not everybody speaks english!). Do you think it will be possible?
I also think it will then be possible for many other italian simpsons websites to support the use of this forum for discussion, so to build a small italian community in a wider international one!

Hope to hear from you soon

Nope I don't think they're going to do that. But welcome anyway. If they were going to do things like that there would be an aussie section by now. But we only have a thread which is enough really.

Thanks!
I won't be sad if it's not going to be done, but I suggest that there is a difference between an aussie section, that will be in english anyways even if probably on different topics, and a section in another language, that can create participation by people not speaking english, thus widening the public of this great great forum.
I'm trying to propose this also because I consider uninteresting the idea of an Italian Only forum, that will not have the breadth of knowledge, topics, partecipation, authoritativeness of this one.

welcome, i'm sure if there were a large number of italian speaking fans here you request would be seriously considered, but since there are so few italians here (you may be the only one) it is very unlikely that something like that will happen in the near future. anyway, i still hope you enjoy your time here.

and toli, i doubt they'd make an aussie section even if we had 1,000 of 'em because we speak english, i think he is looking for a seperate forum for those who speak italian or another language to make the board more accessible to international members.

Well, I pose the problem the other way around, since I think the main reason for the absence of a large group of italians or others non english mothertongue, is the lack of a small corner where they can express themselves easily using their mother language. Moreover there is still a lot of attention about our favourite family in Italy, with 5 episodes aired daily by two different tv broadcasters, with a good audience. There is a small but lively group of websites and the italian simpson newsgroup is still alive (even with all the problems related with the extreme loss of popularity of usenet).
What I consider more valuable and interesting in the idea of having an italian section (as well as any other language section, even if I will not be personally interested) in this forum instead of opening a new one completely in italian, is the possibility of exchanging knowledge and point of views not only between same language groups, but "crossing the border of language", so having the chance for Italians to join a wider and probably more expert community and for this community to have the "different" and "new" contribution from a wider international community.

Welcome, and Good Luck.

Perhaps to begin you might start an Italian language thread here for general Simpsons discussion, and see how that works out.

by that theory, we'd have to have at least ten different forums for each of the non-english-as-a-first-language-speaking members.

Sorry for beeing late in replying.
The idea of first starting with a thread seems nice to me, but, because it is a thead and not an area of a forum it will be harder to organize around it a good "community", so I need a little bit of time to organize this thing better, like joining forces with other italian sites, and publishing the thead in our sites homepage, and so on....
You will hear from me again soon!

Cya!

Welcome, altomelto.

In regards to your idea, it would be nearly impossible to create a section of the board strictly for Italian fans of The Simpsons for the mere fact that it would be unfair to fans from other countries. Everyone else would be asking for their own little piece of the board and start a chain reaction, you see. I'm sure if there was a large mass of Italians that came here and made that request, perhaps it would be considered, but since you've been the only one to request such a thing, it's highly unlikely that it would ever happen. Sorry.

But enjoy your time here, anyway.
