I know a lot of candy we got as children can still be found in convenience stores, but what about the forgotten favorites? I've been trying to find this specific candy for years, and all I had was a noun and a couple adjectives, and no luck from Google. I tried again yesterday and finally found the long lost candy that my husband was convinced I made up/dreamt:

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d57/LickMyPenny/alma_skull_chrusher_halloween.jpg

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d57/LickMyPenny/alma_skull_crushers.jpg

I was ecstatic!! We also found these:

Wow...Skull Crushers...I can still taste them. How awesome could a candy be? :yummy:

Anybody else remember these (skittle!!?) and care to add more?

I have been, for years, trying to remember the name of a particular sour ball that was incredibly popular back in the early to late 90s. Actually, I'm not even sure if they were a nationwide hit or what, but they were everywhere here in Massachusetts. Anyone have an inkling...?

I used to love those things when I was in elemtary school. For some reason I would always chew the wax when I was done??? I thought they stopped making them, but I went to an out of state convience store a couple years ago, and they had em. Fuckin great.

Anyone remember Freshen-Up Gum? Gum on the outside with some jellylike gum on the inside. Sweet, but damn good.

EDIT:

these were so popular in 5th and 6th grade it's not even funny. kids were treating them like currency on the playground. i didn't even know what was going on at first. good candy, but not THAT good.

Warheads and Jelly-Belly jellybeans used to be all the rage in Australia. I still love Jelly-Belly jellybeans (popcorn flavour kicks ass), yet warheads fell so far out of "coolness" that it simply wasn't funny.

Semaj

^They still got plenty of Jelly Bellies up here, and needless to say, they're years ahead of your average jelly beans.

There was this other type of candy I had for Easter several years ago. It consisted of a sugar stick and apple-flavored powder sugar. Very delicious.

I think it's this:

"fads" used to be called "fags" and had a little red thing on them so they actually looked like cigarettes. apparently it encouraged smoking (well, it probably did) so they got rid of the red circle and called them "fads". mmm...fads.

Chewy coconut candy. There were also some mini pies that can't be found in the U.S. but I don't recall the name and mini pies came up with squat in google.

Candy of my youth that is no longer made: Marathon-it's chocolate covered caramel that was molded like a rope. Very popular in the 1970's, but M&M Mars discontinued them.

One bar I really like but unfortunately is sold over in Europe (I have to get it at either Major Market in Escondido or Cost Plus World Market) is 'Bounty'-it's a LOT better than Mounds because the coconut's more flavorful.

I found some stuff on the Marathon bar at wikipedia:

Marathon, sometimes referred to as the Marathon bar, was a chocolate and caramel candy bar available in the United States from August 1973 to October of 1981. The bright red package with a ruler on the reverse made it stand out in the candy aisle; however, sales did not meet expectations, and it was discontinued by Mars, Incorporated

The Marathon bar was an eight-inch long strand of braided caramel coated in chocolate. The product was parodied by Wacky Packages as the Moronathan. Television commercials of the era feature John Wayne's son Patrick as Marathon John who would regularly confront villain Quick Carl.

Today, the closest available candy to the Marathon bar is the Curly Wurly which is sold in the United Kingdom and several other countries, but not in the United States.

Marathon was also the brand name used by Mars in the United Kingdom and Ireland for the chocolate, fondant, and peanut candy bar known as Snickers in the United States. In the mid-1990s, Mars aligned the two brand names, and the candy bar is still available in those countries under the Snickers name

The Marathon bar DEBBS is talking about is totally different from the one sold in the UK.

Yeah i remember those. They used to sell them at the local roller-skating rink when i was a kid.

Debbs mentioned "Bounty" bars. Im not a fan myself, coconut and chocolate together is bad IMO, but they are pretty big over here. They come in milk and dark chocolate varieties, and are sold basically everywhere. We also have "Curly Wurly" bars, which the quoted wikipedia article compares to marathon bars. They are really nice. As for snickers, we had hazlenut for a while, but they've gone, and now we have chewy nougat snickers, which aren't too bad.

Another favourite of mine was Mars Lava. It was basically a mars bar but it had orange instead of caramel.

Any U.K folk remember the Nestle Secret bar, it was like a big ass walnut whip, but my research tells me it was cancelled in 96 due to high production costs...

I loved warheads, I haven't had one since I was five. I also like this sour liquid goo you squeeze out of a tube. This thread has gave me candy cravings. *Walks to corner store*

I'm going to go with Warheads, although I had never considered them as "nostalgic". I'm going to go to the store and get some tomorrow.

Does anyone remember the small fruit shaped lollies. They were really small, and they had different fruits in them, banana, apple, orange, lemon. They were really really awesome. Too bad you cant get them anymore. They tasted like a gobstopper, but they were small, and there was lots of them.
