View Full Version : There is not enough emotion in the new episodes

Honestly, when I take the time to sit down every Sunday and watch a new episode of my favorite show, I'm watching it so I can start balling. However, it seems that as of late I haven't been feeling that usual lump in my throat that I oh so look forward to every weekend. That truly bums me out. Surely the humor is still intact as far as I can see, but that's not the reason why it's become the icon that it is in the first place.

Anyone else spot this as the last few seasons have progressed? I just can't believe that OFF has gone down the tube like this. They used to give me something to care about, now I don't shed a tear. :crymore:

Maybe you're right, but...you watch The Simpsons to cry? That's kind of strange.

You really are Crazy.....

The Simpsons is a satirical comedy....not a melodrama.

I think quite the opposite of what you said is true.

I think the Simpsons is one of the most emotional shows made. Despite the fact its a comedy, its characters have formed to become very potentially deep and incredibly human.

But in the end, it is a comedy. A dramatic-comedy I guess you could say but it is a comedy. It can't lose that or else its not the Simpsons anymore.

When the show is at its best imo, is when it reaches a successful balance between its humor and its drama. You both care for the premise of the epsiode and its characters, but laugh at the funny moments, lighthearted pokes and jabs at things, and other things. You laugh...and you cry (not literally of course). Thats what makes it so unforgettable, even to people who hate the newer episodes.

I think the emotion is still there, but it happens a bit more rarely I agree. Still...there's still some great emotional moments. Its debatable whether the show has had a grasp over that successful balance of drama and comedy in many episodes...but in the end I think its still there. What makes the difference is the characters themselves.
