"The World According to The Simpsons" is a fun and insightful look at "Our Favorite Family", and addresses issues such as globalization, politics, McWorld, the Walmartization of America, the nuclear family, gun control, Lisa's intellectualism in an "anti-intellectual" world, Bart's behavior, and much more. These issues are addressed from a uniquely "Simpsonian" perspective.

" His book of D'oh is a big hit." -New York Daily News

PRESS RELEASE:
When The Simpsons premiered, many hailed it as a sign of society's decline. And to them we say: D'oh! Instead, The Simpsons has become the smartest and most pointed look at the world we live in-all while becoming everyone's favorite TV family. (There is a reason why Homer Simpson was ranked the "greatest American of all-time in a 2003 BBC poll, and the "top philosopher of the decade" in 2006 by the London Guardian!)

What has made -- and continues to make -- The Simpsons the most popular television show of all-time? In The World According to The Simpsons, author Steven Keslowitz takes a look at how The Simpsons has influenced an entire generation over the course of the series' run. The World According to The Simpsons is a hilarious and insightful study of what The Simpsons has to say about society, and how society is affected by The Simpsons. Tackling issue after issue, Keslowitz demonstrates the impact of The Simpsons, and the importance of the use of satire in our democracy. Filled with hilarious quotes as well as indelible references intended for the casual observer and hardcore fan alike, The World According to The Simpsons is a must-read for anyone interested in popular culture and the impact of The Simpsons. The book explores many issues, including:

What does Marge say about the state of modern feminism? Are we too obsessed with "Hollywood Jerk" celebrities? Are Americans as great as they think? What does The Simpsons say about globalization and the Walmartization of America? Is Homer the new industrialized employee? Will no Simpson child be left behind? Is Matt Groening a modern-day Socrates? Can Homer's pursuit of the "perfect donut" teach us something about our own desires? What are the 7 widely-held myths about The Simpsons? Are you a "Homer"? (Take the quiz at the end of the book and find out!)

No issue is settled until the Simpsons have had their say. So sit back in your hammock (purchased, of course, from the "hammock district"), grab some snacks (preferably heavily-salted) and a copy of this book ("Woo-hoo"), let out a Dr. Hibbert-like chuckle (ah-heh-heh-heh), and explore the wisdom of Springfield and what it means for our society. Or as Homer might say, "Mmm... bookalicious."

"The World According to The Simpsons" is a thoroughly revised and expanded version of Steven Keslowitz's first book, The Simpsons and Society. "The World According to The Simpsons" includes brand new essays on globalization, Socrates and The Simpsons, and virtually every chapter has been revised and expanded to address new episodes and ideas. Keslowitz's previous book was featured in more than five hundred newspapers and other media outlets across four continents, including The Washington Post, NY Daily News, Miami Herald, Toronto Star, CNN.com, Yahoo! Asia, and MSNBC.com. His writing on The Simpsons is required reading for English, Writing, Sociology, and Simpsons courses taught at Tufts University, Carnegie Mellon University, Drury University, Montana State University, and the University of Colorado at Denver, among others.
Steven will be a guest on the Mancow radio show this Thursday, April 27 at 9:10 Eastern Standard Time. In addition, he will be a guest on radio broadcasts throughout the country during the next three weeks.

Well, there's one called The Gospel According to the Simpsons (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0664224199/qid=1145888812/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/102-4178444-5622550?s=books&v=glance&n=283155). I don't know if that's the one that you're thinking of.

Hi! Thank you for your replies. This is the first and only Simpsons book that is titled "The World According to The Simpsons." This book takes a look at The Simpsons from a sociological and political perspective, and is divided into three sections. Because it is written in both a fun and serious tone, I intended this book to be accessible to both fans and scholars alike. Thanks! It is being released this week in bookstores everywhere!

There was a TV documentary with that title. Maybe that's why it sounds familiar to you, Nameless.

As for the book, it looks interesting. Thanks for the information.

This is not for me, as I'm merely a watcher of the show and a buyer of its colourful episode guides. Godspeed.
