So I went with a group and saw Brick (http://imdb.com/title/tt0393109) at a local independent theater. Who knew that the combination of High School angst and Hardboiled crime fiction could actually turn out pretty good?

Trailer (http://www.apple.com/trailers/focus_features/brick/trailer/), for reference...

I just finished watching this movie a couple of days back. This is honestly the best movie in a long time with a fresh new idea and feel. The film noir feeling with the slang dialog is so original after watching hundreds of same old movies these last few years. Anyone who comes within the sound of my post should drop whatever they are doing and find this movie and watch it. It is out on DVD now, so buy it, rent it, whatever--just watch it!

Really loved this film, surprised that I didn't post when you brought it up, StrideR, since I saw it around that time. A vague plot synopsis of Brick inspired me and my friend to make a thirty-five minute movie this year, so will always have a special place in my heart, but it's a very, very good film. The lead girl really needs to get more work.

Awesome movie. Fantastic dialouge, fantastic story, cute girl, and a Velvet Underground song to close it. What more could you ask for?

I saw it in theaters a few months back and the DVD is in my Netflix Queue - I was really surprised/impressed with its quality. Definately one of my favorite films this year -- very, very good.

I'd wanted to see this for ages but when it finally came out I was a little disappointed. The whole noir slang speak, to me anyway, just seemed like a riff on what Baz Luhrman did with Romeo & Juliet, with equally mixed results. The lead actor was great, as was the Brain, but it just wasn't convincing enough overall to let me get into its world.

and if that doesnt work/your friends dont have the attention span for subtitles, watch it with someone whose already seen it and stop the movie every 15 minutes for questions.

I followed the film in theaters, it's really not that complicated... and this is someone who can't understand any music lyrics and typically relies on subtitles for home viewing.

subtitles dont really distract me from anything. most movies i watch lately have them anyway, so id say put em on

and of course that girl is cute

I bought the DVD 2 weeks ago and I've watched it twice since. While I'm not too enthralled with the special features, it's worth it alone just for the movie. Brick definitely invests a lot, almost too much, into its style and dialog, but it does have a tight noir plot with balls to boot.

I think few other actors could pull off the role of Brendan, and I doubt any could have done it as well as Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Zehetner made me use the subtitles too often, but she made a great femme fatale as Laura. Megan Good made a good Kara and I dug the interplay between her character and Brendan.

"Nostalgia" scenes I'll always remember:
-Laura's recitation of "Someone to watch over me".
-The first meeting with the Pin
-Meeting Kara at the theater
-The final scene on the football scene

Absolutely not, I really wish I went to that ultra-violent high school just for her

As for favorite scenes, almost every scene with the main character's friend is brilliance... did a really good job with the character.

Also Kicking in the gun to the pin during the final fight

same thing i said at shiftercar:

i really didn't like this movie. everything about it sucked. except when he got his ass kicked.

also when dugger shot the dude in the tunnel, AND THE SMOKE COMES OUT OF HIS HEAD!!!! holy shit that was awesome.

but otherwise, it was the worst attempt at staccato mamet-esque dialogue, lynch quirkiness, 40's noir, all that jazz. terrible.

girl is hot.

really liked it, dialogue ran quite smooth.

near the end of the film i was in the middle of a wtf moment, thinking im gonna have to rewatch it to understand it, but the ending cleared everything up for me, similar to the maltese falcon.

best film ive seen in a couple months
