Hello everyone! My name is Beth and I'm new to this forum. *waves*

I am a fan of Richard Dean Anderson and I am sure you are all aware of his recent appearance on the episode "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bangalore". This was a very big deal to freinds of mine that are also RDA fans and they've been awating this show since RDA first announced his upcoming appearance on the www.rdanderson.com forum last year. Here's what he said:

"NOTE FROM RICK" - THE SIMPSONS
June 17, 2005

Richard stopped by for a quick note to share some exciting news. It seems that his dream of appearing on The Simpsons has finally come true.

Just enough strength to break the news of a completed career (mine) with the already completed episode of The Simpsons. You are the first one I told.

More later.

D'oh!!!!!
He has been a big fan of The Simpsons for a long time.

There was much discussion and anticipation amongst his fans on that website's forum!

RDA was so excited about his appearance on the show that he even made a last minute notice to make sure that his fans hadn't forgotten. But no one had! Everyone had their TiVos, DVRs, and VCRs set for weeks! LOL

"NOTE FROM RICK" - THE SIMPSONS
April 9, 2006

Apparently unaware of how much the fans were already anticipating his appearance on The Simpsons, Richard dropped by with another quick note and a little reminder.

April 9, 2006

Did I mention the Simpsons episode is on tonight, Sunday, April 9? Hope it's not too late to spread the word about the Simpsons debut. Either way, my career is complete.

I will be traveling back to Vancouver after a day in California reconnecting with Wylie. I hadn't seen her since we got back from Mammoth Mountain about ten days ago. All is well.

The show was a big hit for his fans, especially those of us who are MacGyver fans. I am a fan of Stargate SG-1 also, and the bit about the Stargate con in the show was a great surprise!

I had a friend, a big MacGyver fan, ask me if I knew why the writers of The Simpsons chose to make MacGyver an obsession with Patty and Selma. I didn't know, so I thought that I would come here to see if any of you might know the backstory to that.

Anyone????

The main reason is really just the fact that MacGyver was a big show in the early 90s, when The Simpsons itself first started as a series. There isn't any exciting backstory beyond that. I think it was just their observation that someone like Patty and Selma might be into that show. Plus, for the "Black Widower" episode (which I'm pretty sure is when they introduced the MacGyver thing...someone can correct me if I'm wrong) they needed some really banal thing for Selma and Sideshow Bob to fight over, and a tv show that Bob would likely hate did the trick.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the first reference to Patty & Selma's love of MacGyver is in "Homer Alone".

Thanks...I was pretty sure it was season three, but I couldn't think of an episode earlier than "Widower". Slipped my mind.

Thanks for the insight DotheBartman.

And, yes, you're right, MacGyver 666, it was Homer Alone.

Ep. 50. 8F14 (SI-314 / S03E15) Homer Alone

Patty and Selma say after watching MacGyver on television: "Best MacGyver ever.'' "Richard Dean Anderson will be in my dreams tonight.''

And Homer uses a roll of ever-useful duct tape to strap Maggie in.

There was such a demand from the RDA fans who missed the Kiss Kiss, Bang Bangalore episode to see it (some were heartboken, LOL) that I put together some web pages about the connection between RDA and The Simpsons.

I researched on the Internet and found all the references I could find that interconnected RDA with The Simpsons. It includes not only the MacGyver references on The Simpsons, but also the references that were made to The Simpsons on Stargate SG-1. RDA even slipped in a little, "D'oh!" in his 1995 TV show Legend - and that show took place in 1876!

The site also has video clips, screen captures, and transcript snippets from both Kiss Kiss, Bang Bangalore and Black Widower as well as articles I came across and even some fan art.

If anyone is interested, here's the link:

If I missed anything, or there is anything anyone thinks could be added to the site, please let me know. I'm not really an expert on The Simpsons at all. I watched it years ago, but fell out of the habit. I just put the web pages together because there was a huge demand for the info from the RDA fans after Kiss Kiss, Bang Bangalore aired. (Dang, but that's a long name! LOL)

Thanks agian! :D

BTW - Whoever it is that owns this site, I LOVE your disclaimer image! ROTFL!

Oh! And I just noticed that DotheBartman is from Lakewood, CO! I used to live in Colorado Springs and now I live in Canon City! Small world, huh? :)
