17.01: “Bar Wars VII: It’s Not Over Yet”
Moe is dismayed to learn that the Olde Watering Hole is being renovated and given a more modern look, inspiring him to do the same with the tavern. However, Barney and the other barflies are happy with the current state of the bar, and decide to take action against the Watering Hole by sabotaging the renovation. But in their anger, they wind up creating a magnificent piece of art, and their rivals take all of the credit.
17.02: “Out of Africa” (Part One)
Homer and Marge return from Africa after deciding to take a break from each other, but Homer is not familiar with the rules of their temporary separation. He later thinks that Marge wants to sleep with other men and decides to retaliate by finding a cheap floozy. Marge soon finds out about his plans and decides to make their separation permanent, leaving a guilt-ridden Homer to make amends before she meets someone else.
17.03: “Out of Africa” (Part Two)
Barney returns from Africa after boarding a late flight, and walks into another argument between Homer and Marge. Homer has just made a crack about Marge, culminating in her throwing away the ‘promise ring’ he gave her. Barney decides to use his professional skills as a meddler to bring them back together and sets up a romantic cruise, but Marge winds up making Homer walk the plank after he makes another mean joke.
17.04: “If Things Were Zifferent”
Homer moves in with Barney until his problems with Marge are sorted out, whilst Marge struggles to pay the rent after his departure. Out of options, she turns to Artie Ziff for help, who has his own interests in mind when he finds out about Homer and Marge’s breakup. In the meantime, Barney retreats to Moe’s more often when he can’t cope living with Homer, and winds up getting drunk as Homer attempts to make amends.
17.05: “The Garage Sale”
Homer is hurt when he discovers that Marge is trying to sell her promise ring in a garage sale and begins to re-consider the fact that they may never reconcile. When the ring is eventually sold, Homer finds that he can’t sleep or eat (as much!) and decides to track down the owner in order to get the ring back. Meanwhile, Barney declares war on a neighbor who bought the only thing he wanted for himself at Marge’s garage sale.
17.06: “Marge’n England”
Marge returns to Africa after discovering that she left an important family heirloom but inadvertently boards a flight to England instead. Homer, on the other hand, winds up in Africa after yet another attempt to reconcile with Marge, and is confused over her whereabouts. In the meantime, Marge just wants to leave England before the heirloom is sold, and gets a job at a British pub where she runs into a Barney-like customer.
17.07: “The Thanksgiving That Almost Wasn’t” (#350)
Homer finally decides to give up in his efforts to win Marge’s heart again, and cancels his Thanksgiving plans in his depression. Barney becomes determined to cheer up Homer before Thanksgiving day and realises only Marge, who has volunteered at the local homeless shelter, can help. Marge agrees, and after discovering Homer’s depression, she finally decides to give him another chance... but only if he cooks their turkey!
