What are your favorite Fellini films?
8 1/2 is my second favorite film of all time...
La Strada and La Dolce Vita need some notice...
I really want to see Amarcord (sp?) I have heard it is very "8 1/2"-esque....

I consider 8½ and Nights of Cabiria to be masterpieces, while I Vitelloni, La Strada and La Dolce Vita all are excellent. Those are the only Fellini movies I've seen so far.

saw Amarcord...
7/10
Good and classic Fellini style, but I now believe that Fellini MUST be seen in black and white... something didn't feel right about this film; otherwise, I thought it was pretty good. But you need "Fellini" patience...

8 1/2 is like one of my favorite movies. la dolce vita is also amazing.
you're right about b&w too. just isn't the same. he really is a master of style.

saw la dolce vita last night. mini-reviewed it in the last movies thread. also saw part of fellini's casanova one time. it starred donald sutherland and was horrible.
i want to see 8 1/2 still and that's about it from him.

i highly reccommend la strada. it's easy to follow and i just found it more interesting than la dolce vita. it's the second fellini movie i saw, after 8½.

Yeah, I own the reissue and the movie is probably my favorite by him but they're all so very close. The big La Dolce Vita boxset thing is only $30.00 at Borders, gonna pick it up next week. I want to buy Nights of Cabiria but it's way too expensive for such a poor transfer. I think Criterion might reissue it as well.
Anyway, he's my favorite director now, probably. Any other notable directors of Italian neo-realism?

the stupid dubbing thing in those italian movies really bother me.

8 1/2 -- all time fave. Freshman year, in my Film History class, we were supposed to see it outside of class (this was pre-Criterion DVD release), and like literally no video store in the metro area (I called like 40 Blockbusters, no joke) had it, so we were assigned something else. Once the Criterion release came out, I had to buy it -- just to see what the big deal was -- it's awesome.
La Strada/La Dolce Vita are both awesome as well, I haven't seen all of Amarcord (I fell asleep that day in International Cinema, oops), but I'll check out the newly updated disc.
Fellini rules.

i've seen
la strada
8 1/2
la dolce vita
nights of cabiria
and the ship sails on...
i'd say my favouriate is la dolce vita but i think 8 1/2 needs a repeat viewing. people always seem to go off about it the most.
'vita' seems the most affecting for me (apart from maybe the last shot of cabiria).

Just curious... What didn't you like about it?
I wanted to love it at times, but I really don't think it was that "awesome". Good, not great.. and the premise had the potential to be one of his best. IMO.
Fellini doesn't belong in color...
kevin

i didn't mind the color. i thought the film looked very good in the nice, bright colors. although i could definitely see some parts that would look better in b&w.
the whole movie just seemed kinda random. i know it's meant to be like that, and it does flow well, but i dunno... just not personally my style.
