So tell me... What makes the ultimate Simpsons fan? And tell me why the simpsons is such a hit?

I'd love for everyone's participation and would much appreciate your imput!

Seriously though, the ultimate fan will know the lines used in practically every epi, by heart. That's a lot of dialogue.

What makes the ultimate Simpsons fan?
This is purely subjective, so feel free to disagree anyone, but in my opinion, you've got to like the majority of episodes.

And tell me why the simpsons is such a hit?
I personally think there's a number of reasons:
*The humour works on numerous levels (there's fun, satire and farce mixed in).
*It's funny as it's a cynical twist on what should all be rosey (aka the concept of a nice sitcom family in sleepy small town America is twisted so that the family is somewhat dysfunctional and the town is a total dump).
*A good number of the episodes are easy to relate to, and despite the family's arguments, the series has heart.

i think the simpsons works and has remained on the air for so long because viewers who see the simpsons while they are young appreciate the sight gags and slapstick and as they grow up they begin to see the references and satire which makes it enjoyable. Now to answer the question what makes the ultimate fan: in my opinion the ultimate simpsons fan has seen most if not all of the episodes knows, all the voice actors in the cast, and should be able to quote at least one line from each episode

The ultimate Simpsons fan would be the one who hangs out at nohomers.net the most.

i reckon obviously that they need to like waching the simpsons a whole lot, know lots of the dialogue, and just know a lot about the show on the whole.
Like people have said, the simpsons is such a hit because it is very funny on a lot of levels. Another reason why it is a hit is because it is an internationally recognised cartoon and has been around for a long time

A good Simpsons fan is one who feels like he /she is a part of the show. Where the events, jokes and lines from the show translate into their real life.

Not a day goes by where something happens to me or to someone else that I can't somehow relate to the show.

The ultimate Simpsons fan incorporates all the dialogue into day to day life, remembers the dialogue and knows all the little details from the show so much that they make other people get a little freaked out!
The reason why it's soooooooooo gooooooood! Is the fact that it is clever witty and makes very spot on observations on government/social issues. It's ingenuity all the one liners, all the characters! The list goes on and on!

A true Simpsons fan knows there are bad episodes of The Simpsons. None of that "I love every single episode therefore I am the show's number one fan!" crap.

definetly watching the re-runs on tv ritualistically is the only qualification in my opinion...even if its an episode you hate or one you remember seeing recently....those days are numbered for me but its still my #1 most favorite show. family guy is great too if you have ADD...alot of the time when i watch family guy i cant remember what gag is in which episode or sometimes even the central theme...early family guy episodes are more simpson-esque persay...in my opinion. the early simpsons episodes had deeper impact, early simpsons resonated better

The Ultimate fan would like 90% of the episodes but admit there are some bad and crappy ones.Owns a ton of stuff from the show and uses quotes and sayings in everyday life.

Exactly what I'm thinking. I don't like when I hear a fan saying something like "Every single episode gets an A". You have to be critical on some episodes.

I think a quality of an "ultimate" fan would be judging each episode by its own merit.
