View Full Version : SP's "It Hits the Fan"--why don't they say the S-word anymore?

I always thought it was weird that in one episode, they were allowed to drop the S-bomb over 160 times, yet as far as I know, they haven't been able to since. The episode plays normally in syndication as well. Any reason for this?
Not that I really think it'll help or hurt the show if they have it or not, I've just always been curious about this.

Well they said to use it in moderation or else they'll be cursed, but I still find it weird that they haven't had it at all (or bleeped it?) since then.

In some episodes they can. In others they can't.
They were able to say the s word several times because they asked the censors and they said yes. I guess they need permission to get the word unbleeped and they must not bother sometimes.

The S-word was unbleeped in the premiere airing of "Ike's Wee Wee" where Mr. Mackey said it. That was an oversight by whoever had the responsibility of bleeping the show; by the next airing it was bleeped.
It also goes unbleeped as part of the "French Canada" song in "It's Christmas in Canada." (Ze other Canada is a bullsh*t Canada.") It's sung with a thick French accent, and on the Season 7 commentary, Matt & Trey say they think the only reason it didn't get bleeped is because whoever was bleeping it thought it was "bourgeois Canada" (which admittedly is what it sounds like).
And to clarify what was posted above, the S-word remains unbleeped in Comedy Central reruns of "It Hits the Fan," but not in late-night syndication on broadcast TV. It's one of the handful of episodes excluded from syndication altogether, since the S-word would have to bleeped for a TV-14, somewhat destroying the episode.

I never understood why they always bleeped swear words on the show (and other shows). If they show it late at night (after 9pm) there's probably no need to. That's how it usually works in the UK.

I don't know why they ever bleep swear words. They really are just words. I saw plenty of movies growing up with lots of swear words in them, and I turned out okay...I hope.

Yeah, I'd have thought that would have been one of the episodes not seen on broadcast TV, though I've only seen a handful of these since the run started.
Out of curiosity, what are the other episodes excluded from broadcast syndication?

They have and they've bleeped it.
