Very solid writer. His THOH was excellent. Wild Bart's and Girly Edition were both very good, even if they did seem on the slightly dull/quiet side of things at times. Bible Stories was another good story, though I havn't seen it in a while. Pygmoelian and Worst Episode Ever looked nicely into characters exploring Moe and CBG very well IMO. It's a Mad Marge was his only poor episode. It was kind of fun in a silly way, but it was way too extreme for Marge's character for me. So, Overall an excellent writer. I bet his episodes would of been even better under a classic year EP.

Who are you talking about? In the title it says Ron Hague, but that's Larry Doyle's writing record.

Hm, you're right. With the exception of Marge, that's quite good for the Scully years. I'm particularly partial to the underrated Wild Barts, probably my favorite Scully era episode.

I think he's a very uneven writer, the type of writer who would include brilliant and awful things in the same episode. He also wrote the Looney Tunes Back In Action flick which was also a combination of smart and funny gags with other silly moments. And I know this was Scully era but some of his episodes and LT:BIA included monkeys, so I guess he had a thing with monkeys. Anyway I wouldn't mind if they'd replace Tim Long and Carolyn Omine by this guy, he did some funny material.

Sorry to derail this thread, but what was your opinion of LT: BIA ? I personally enjoyed it more than Space Jam. I felt it had some excellent use of classic Lonney Tunes gags like the scenes with Wile E Coyote and the museum scene will Elmer Fudd chasing Bugs and Daffy.

His episodes were of good quality till the boring Pygmalion came along. They had funny gags and some nice satirical moments. What I find ironic is that he wrote the worst episode ever before writing "Worst Episode Ever".

Except for maybe Worst Episode Ever, those are all pretty bad episodes.

I initially disliked it but when I rewatched it in the DVD and in the original version with the great english voices for the characters I found it was quite better than Space Jam. Still It wasn't good enough for me, but it was entertaining and some parts were imaginative.
I especially liked the crazier parts in which logic was completely forgotten, the Las Vegas flying car o the way they "travel" to Paris, that kind of reminded me of the surreal style of old Warner shorts and Disney movies from Golden Era (like The Three Caballeros). Of course the scene at the museum was the best one in the movie. Daffy Duck was in top form during the whole thing, better than Bugs, which is ok cause Daffy is my fave character. Daffy-Bugs plot about the first one wanting to be recognized and finally saving the rabbitt disguised as Duck Dodgers was fine.
I hated Jenna Elfman's acting, though and Fraser and Martin were merely ok. The "monkey" part of the plot I found it to be a little silly and not developed in the necessary way to make it surrealistic and funny enough.

I am sorry for derailing this thread further but it seems you and I enjoyed the movie for the same reasons. I always liked when the movie would reference the classic Looney Tunes gags : like everything always going wrong for Wile E Coyote, how Bugs and Daffy could still walk into pictures but Elmer couldn't. And I felt the Museum scene was a great homage to the rabbit-duck trilogy of Chuck Jones.
What I didn't enjoy was the live-action pop-culture references. Ok, it maybe is funny to have a Bond-esque character and a really campy villain but lame references about Brendan Fraser's character being a stuntman in The Mummy and Star Wars parodies don't really fit into a movie about Looney Tunes at all.

What is people's beef with "Worst Episode Ever"? IMO that's his best episode, (and one of the best of the entire show, actually). There are one or two very minor Scully-esque moments, but apart from that I think it's hilarious...

Yeah, I more or less agree. The thing is I have mixed feelings about it. I guess it's Looney Tunes' spirit to include some movie references. The thing is I kind of found myself thinking Hollywood has going downhill. While classic Looney Tunes included gags about Humphrey Bogart in The Treasure Of Sierra Madre this movie included Lethal Weapon references and such. What I found even more odd was the combination of modern references with classic ones, sometimes cult movies I don't even know too much about (like the alien scenes). Perhaps it would have worked better if they wouldn't have included so many references. I also quite liked the idea suggested by an internet fan which was asking for Looney Tunes acting like old actors that would talk about Katherine Hepburn and old fashioned Hollywood, as if they have been in a hibernation state during the last decades. That would have been interesting but, on the other hand, it could have seemed kind of elitist or dated.
Anyway there was already an Star Wars reference in Jones' The Bugs Bunny and Road Runner Movie, though it was a lot more subtle. By the way it was also quite odd to have Scooby Doo in a LT movie, even if Time Warner owns Hanna Barbera.
What annoyed me the most, though, wasn't the pop culture references, it was more the "explanation"of the jokes by the actors, like Fraser and Elfman commenting on the Bugs-Daffy-Elmer formula during the Louvre sequence. Maybe I'm too much of a purist but actually showing who is in charge of Acme Corporation seems a little like a mistake IMO. And all those meta-explanations were better donde in WFRR anyway. Also some attempts at wacky humor with the real actors didn't work, like that endless sequence with Martin and his sidekicks showing different disguises in the jungle part or Tazmanian Devil leaving only the skeleton of one of the guys. Flying car and naked Mona Lisa worked well, though.
Now, THIS is derailing a thread... :D

I also noticed that,he's a very good writer from Scully era. "Worst episode ever" and "Pygmoelian" are both EXCELLENT,but I don't like "It's a mad, mad, mad Marge" that much (it began with a great story about Otto but it got worse towards the end). Overall, when I think about the best episodes in seasons 9-12,I usually think about some of his episode. I'm glad that Drunk Barney posted this topic.

If it weren't for Mad, Mad Marge and Pygmoelian, I'd agree with this thread, but I just can't ignore those awful episodes. So, he doesn't really stand out from the other Scully writers.
