He's okay. He has written some pretty underrated episodes such as She Used to Be My Girl, Brake My Wife Please and Bart Vs Lisa Vs and the Third Grade. Though the problems with these episodes is that they have too many poor moments, such as constent choaking in SUTBMY. On to the good, the Adam & Eve story was an excellent segment IMO, but I havn't seen it in a while. The only great episode he has written is Half Decent Proposal though. Sadly he has written a few meh/poor episodes such as Saddlesore Galactica, New Kids on the Blecch, Homer and Ned's Hail Mary Pass and Behind the Laughter. I think Tim has the same problems. A typicall episode for him would be a good first 2 acts (B/B+) and then a terrible third act with a bizzare ending.

He has two episodes worth watching, one of which was written with three other people anyway, and 8 D-range episodes. How very poor.

Strange as it sounds, Tim Long's writing style tends to be sporadic under Al Jean's supervision. He tries to make more sincere stories, but insists on keeping his outlandish gags, with that only coming to perfection once.
His writing style was slightly better under Mike Scully's watch.

Due to his legend I thought he had worst episodes, in fact. Apart from SG I found most of these more meh than horrible. Now, if we talk about Carolyn Omine... :D

His episodes ar unique in the sense that they always hover off to absolutely disastrous third act tangents that wreck the entire episode. Troll Jockeys, Evil Navy conspiracy, Bart and Lisa falling down a hill and being rescued by Hicks, Bart and Lisa rescued by Turks, Grampa becoming a Matador rank high on the worst plot twists in OFF history. His episodes also have uneven gags and contrived character interactions. Still, Half Decent Proposal can easily be called a neo-classic episode and featured none of the problems the other episodes have in general.

I'm bored of gradelists. What I'll say is that I think Long's record is better than people give him credit for, but at the same time it does have a tendancy towards mediocrity. The biggest problem is that there's often a disjointed nature; even Half Decent Proposal, as great as it is, has a plot tangent and "characters in danger" element in the final act, which is a common thread in Long's episodes. At best, his episodes have a solid story and great gags, with perhaps a strange twist or tangent in the final act that should have been replaced with something better. At worst, the episode will have no consistant storyline or theme and will jump around too much for just about anything to work. But I don't really think Long has that many out-and-out clunkers, beyond the obvious Saddlesore Gallactica and Mobile Homer.

Worst record ever. Has a fluke or two, but he's probably the worst writer on the current staff, and unlike Graham, he shows no signs of improving.

Not my least favorite writer, but he's pretty close.
Adam and Eve (Simpsons Bible Stories)
An okay segment with some decent humor, but it seems to run out of gas and isn't all that engaging by the end. C
Desperately Xeeking Xena (Treehouse of Horror X)
Probably my favorite segment of the episode, though it wasn't exactly stellar. I liked the theme song, Lucy Lawless did a nice job, and Comic Book Guy was used well for once, but it lacked the spark of a classic. B
Saddlesore Galactica
Not much else has to be said that hasn't already. Lousy characterizations, gratuitous human-like behavior of animals, a bland song, a useless subplot, and one of the worst 3rd act skews in history. It's disliked by many for a reason. D-
Behind the Laughter
A divisive episode, but it's not quite my cup of tea. The parody wears a bit thin by the end, and while some of the jokes are funny, the crises that the family members come across feel too random and come off as lousy. C
Skinner's Sense of Snow
Many seem to dislike this episode, but it has a certain charm for me. The first act wastes too much time with the circus and I disliked the subplot quite a bit, but the main plot was very well done. The bickering and power struggles between Skinner and the kids made for some very funny situations. B
New Kids on the Blecch
A bottom 15 episode for me. The first act was nothing but a throw-away plot, and then things went downhill from there. The opportunity to lampoon boy bands is wasted as the songs take up too much time, N*Sync's appearances are laughless, and the plot becomes absolutely absurd before finally collapsing on itself. F
Half-Decent Proposal
My favorite episode of season 13. Patty and Selma get some good usage, plot elements like Homer's snoring problem don't end up getting wasted, and the humor is quite nice. The story also plays out pretty well save for a needless life-threatening situation in the third act. It sounded like a terrible idea on paper, but the final product really impressed me. B+
Bart Vs Lisa Vs Third Grade
The complete opposite of Half-Decent Proposal in that this episode had a great premise with terrible execution. The first act was wasted on TV jokes and a plot that ended up being completely forgotten, the new teacher was an annoying secondary character, and Mary Bailey's appearance was needless. On top of all that, Bart and Lisa's rivalry is thin as paper and the resolution is laughable. D-
Brake My Wife Please
So many plots, so little time. This episode simply would not sit still and pick a story to develop, so we're stuck with thin and forgettable plots about Bart at the aquarium, Homer losing his license, Homer enjoying walks, Homer getting hit by a car, and Marge and Homer in a marital crisis. The humor wasn't all bad, but the song was awkward and made for (in my opinion) the most useless guest appearance of all time. C
She Used to Be My Girl
The new character was interesting, but Lisa's admiration for her and Marge having a problem with it play out pretty blandly. Once again, we're treated to another character-in-mortal-danger climax, and overall the affair is forgettable. C-
Homer and Ned's Hail Mary Pass
My least favorite of the year, and one of my least favorite of all time. Ned's personality is very mean-spirited, and the amount of blood and gore is very needless. The sports stars make very dull appearances, and Homer dancing got old pretty fast. It also doesn't help that few jokes made me laugh. F
Mobile Homer
A very below average episode. The pain gags were painful to watch, and there was far too much of Homer and Marge arguing. I liked the idea of Bart and Lisa returning the RV, but once again their lives just had to be put in danger for the climax. D+
Million Dollar Abie
My second least favorite episode of this year so far. Again we have too many plots without enough development to go around, and the bonding moment between Lisa and Grandpa ends up feeling manipulative and lame. D-
He used to be merely uneven for me, but lately he's become consistently mediocre if not much worse. He doesn't seem to know how to create a believable emotional connection between two characters (whether it's Bart and Lisa's rivalry in Third Grade, Lisa and Marge in Used to be My Girl, or Lisa and Grandpa bonding in Abie), since they always seem either too underdeveloped or overdone. He'll sometimes overload an episode with too many plot points (Brake My Wife, Please, Abie), throw in a life-in-danger climax (Mobile, Proposal), and sometimes it's something else all together (Blecch, Hail Mary Pass).
If he continues to slide like he's been these last few seasons, and if Ian-Maxtone Graham manages to improve (I quite liked The Seemingly Never-Ending Story), I may just have to swap who my least favorite writer of all time is.

I liked Skinner's Sense of Snow, New Kids on the Blecch, Bart vs. Lisa vs. the Third Grade (except for the horrid third act), and Mobile Homer. The rest, no.
Also, Behind the Laughter shouldn't really count because it was a group effort. I mean, yes, he definitely had a hand in writing it, but if we're talking about solo efforts, it shouldn't count.

Simpsons Bible Stories (Adam And Eve) - 9/10
As his first writing effort, this was excellent. Hugely entertaining!
Treehouse Of Horror X (Desperately Xeeking Xena) - 8/10
Not as good as the Adam And Eve segment, but very worthy in a THOH, regardless of it not being scary
Saddlesore Galactica - 3/10
This was a massacre. His first real episode was a downer. Lots of controversy followed, and he immediately became disliked.
Behind The Laughter (with George Meyer, Mike Scully and Matt Selman) - 10/10
Simply hilarious and a breath of fresh air, especially coming from season 11. One of the most original and funniest shows ever. However, his input in the show is unknown since it was also written by three other great writers.
Skinner's Sense of Snow - 8/10
There we go! Much better. Really unique story and funny throughout. Mr. Long redeems himself slightly with a consistent plot and very enjoyable holiday themed show.
New Kids On The Blecch - 5/10
Just as we may have forgotten about Saddlesore Galactica, he throws this one at us. While not as bad as BABF09, it suffers from a truly wacky story and not alot to laugh at. Too much music and bad characterization. Does well on repeat viewings IMO.
Half-Decent Proposal - 9/10
Debatable, but I will stand firmly on my opinion that this is his best episode yet. A strong story, great lines and an old character resurfaces. Some hope is found under Al Jean's reign. Maybe, just maybe, all is not lost with Tim Long.
Bart Vs. Lisa Vs. The Third Grade - 7/10
Excellent story. So much potential to become a classic, but execution wasn't really there. Some good jokes and memorable scenes. Still better than he was under Mike Scully.
Brake My Wife, Please - 7/10
About on par with the above episode. Loved the song. Reused story but made up for it with a some pretty clever gags.
She Used To Be My Girl - 7/10
Pretty underated, I would say. Somewhat modified version of BABF18 that was done better and more realistically. Decent new character. Pretty good stuff.
Homer And Ned's Hail Mary Pass - 5/10
Very forgettable. He was doing so well with a consistent streak of good episodes. Felt like an excuse to hype up the Super Bowl. A sloppy storyline only saved from some decent jokes.
Mobile Homer - 6/10
Totally crazy but surprisingly funny. I found myself laughing quite abit, but I still can't get past the zanyness.
Million Dollar Abie - 7/10
Pretty good stuff. Some lame jokes and a very entertaining Grampa story. His writing is getting better under Jean.
Overall, Tim Long has been pretty stable since Season 13. Not the best writer, but his shows can always be counted on to make the audience laugh. Half-Decent Proposal is his best script and Saddlesore Galactica is his worst. No surprises there.
