I have to agree. That was probably the worst episode of Family Guy I've ever seen. The 10 minute song was very unfunny. The whole thing with Stewie beating up Brian wasn't funny. It wasn't even disturbing. It was just stupid. Even the jokes making fun of the British weren't funny. I don't know what happened with this episode but it was horrible.
I will add some parts I liked:
Peter thanking God and Satan.
Diane mourning her first husband.
i wanna see how many people dislike this episode because the patriots were in it.
*cough*
anyway, how many of the guest voices were real? carol channing, another one of the pats players, jay leno...? did they all do their own voices? i know bob costas did. i stupidly forgot to watch the credits again.
anyway, pretty solid, hilarious as usual

Cyndi Tang moves from Arlen to Quahog starting here.
Act III was a bust. Was expecting something a bit more climactic. Otherwise, the episode was pretty good. Who didn't predict Brian's revenge on Stewie coming at the very end?

That'd only be an issue if they were messin with the Bills. :)

It was not that bad. The Brian/Stewie Thing was a little boring, and just painful to watch, but a nice revenge at the end.
What is everyone's problem with "Shipoopi"? I'm guessing not a lot of people knew where this came from. I did, and thought it was great. They used the whole song, and normally they cut some of it out when they do parodies like that.
BTW: It was from "The Music Man"
My Grade: 3/5

I know where "Shipoopi" is from. I just didn't thing it was a very funny parody and it went on for way too long and it got boring. Maybe they should have cut parts out.
andy, i'm pretty sure leno did his own voice, but i'm not sure about channing or the other pats player... not positive on which player it was (troy brown, i wanna say).
but uhhh, i thought it was hilarious. i wasn't expecting it to be that random (that long song and dance came out of nowhere), but it made me laugh quite a bit. what else can you ask for from a family guy episode?

There were a few pretty funny bits, (I actually really liked Stewie beating up Brian), but that godawful musical number killed much of the episode for me.
2.5/5
and i'm mostly sure about carol channing.

Yeah, um, why should watching Peter sing Shapoopi for 5 minutes be funny just because I've seen The Music Man?
Because it wasn't. It just felt like them padding the episode.
Other than that and the excessively long Brian beatings this was OK.

Worse than Homer and Ned's Hail Mary Pass.
For an overly long song to work in a comedy, it has to be original and funny. Recreating a song from The Music Man for a single moderately amusing joke (Peter taking showboating too far) was a bad idea--the thing went on longer than the chicken fight, and there were hardly any gags to speak of. Very padded.
I did like Stewie being punched in front of the bus though.

Brian and Stewie might have saved it.
But the musical number threw me over the edge.
Also a crappy ending.

Holy shit. This episode was crap.
Brain getting his ass kicked by Stewie was not funny at all. Cartoon violence is good when it is not realistic. this violence was realistic and horrible to Brian. Last time we saw them fight was in "Lethal Weapons" I belive, and Brian stood a chance and was not taking it like a bitch. Stewie was way too gruesome in this episode. All we got from Season 4 is "Stewie and Brian are best buds now" crap, and they do this! Holding Brian's head down on the toilet while he was bleeding and begging for it to stop was when it crossed the line. Jesus Christ, I want cartoon violence, not violence I see in after school specials! Brian hitting Stewie into the bus was funny because it was cartoony.
Also, Tom Brady was horrible. Did we really need the segments where Lois, Meg, and Stewie wanna stare at his shlong and when peter plays with him in the bathroom when they are naked. They were just thrown in for the fuckin' fat women who wanted to see him naked. The Stewie punch line with him looking was barely a chuckle. Tom Brady's only good joke was him being persued by Jay Leno.
Okay, that musical number. Their worse one yet, went on to long, AND IT WASN'T FUNNY! Seth loves his music but this was too much. The music number that sent them to England was bad, and there were much better "British jokes in the episode where the bar becomes a British pub. Finally, THERE WERE HARDLY ANY FLASHBACKS! FG lives on flashbacks and they only have three!? To make room for Tom Brady!? Seth, flashbacks > Tom Brady.
That Chris line when he said his new shoes were in a box and they smell was just, just... I don't know. His shoes smell... that was the punch line...? You could have done anything Seth, and you said.... his old shoes smell.... I see where this series is heading...
All in all, it didn't make me laugh. It made me feel sorry for a character when it was supposed to be having a silly joke. Disgusting Seth, disgusting.

A few funny moments (I actually thought Stewie beating up Brian was hilarious, plus Harriet Tubman doing Gwyneth Paltrow wax statue = gold), but yeah...the "Shipoopie" song and everything that followed (mainly the time in England) blew ass.
2.5/5 Nearly as bad as "Jungle Love".

Wow, I'm really suprised by all the negative reactions this episode is getting. Granted Peter singing "Shipoopi" was probably one of the worst gags this season because it went on entirely too long, but other than that I feel the rest of the episode was pretty good. I loved the Brian and Stewie subplot, and most of the jokes were pretty solid. Tom Brady gave a much better preformance in this episode then he did in "Homer and Ned's Hail Mary Pass". This is really the first decent Family Guy episode in a long time. 4/5

I thought it was great. It was done well, I laughed my as off at Stewie beating, shooting, and incinerating Brian, and the Shipoopi part was great.
Ok, how many people hated this ep due to the lack of sex jokes and frat-boy humor?
Cerpin Taxt
01-29-2006, 09:16 PM
Uh...I hated it because of Stewie (now that I think about it), and Shipoopi.
It was crraaaap.
Which is wierd because I thought this would be great and that The Simpsons and American Dad would suck.
It turned out the other way around.

Strange story, strange resolution, and taking long jokes and bad songs to a new level. Stewie provided a couple laughs, and Brian's revenge was excellent. But everything else... ouch. 2/5

This is a great example that if Family Guy tries to have a coherent plot and not that many flashbacks it can not do well. It has to have a loose plot that is barely being focused on and 100 flashbacks.
I think I enjoyed The War at Home that proceeded this episode better.

Well the first 10 or so minutes was mostly crap but after that I really started to enjoy the episode and its gags.
Family guy seems to be the best American show at joking about england, for whatever reason its funny all the time, I especially liked the condensation, not sure what it was spoofing but funny non the less.
As others have said the Stewie beating up Brian bit was just painful to watch, I even groaned when it happened the second time, it only needed to happen the once and that should have ended strait after Stewie hit Brian with the glass, after that we get the point. The lack of cut aways was a welcome change and really benefited, I don't mind cut aways as long as there short, its just to bad they spent the extra time on dragging out the beating up scenes.
The music number was pointless, it was greatly animated and was a little funny to wards the end, but overall was just a waste of time.
3/5 because the second part was good and the first part had a good gag here and there.

I liked it, though for the life of me, I can't say why. It was odd, yet somehow charming. And perhaps the thought behind the "Shipoopi" number was that Seth could indulge his showtunes jones while pleasing the frat boys with repeated used of the "poop" sound. 4/5.
And for the record, Carol Channing, Jay Leno, and Troy Brown were all listed in the credits.

A rather bland episode. I didn't enjoy the Stewie/Brian thing AT ALL. Man, Brian sucks.
The main plot didn't do much for me either. I didn't find shipoopi funny. I was shocked that the episode wasn't over when they got sent to England.

Glad to see he didn't, though.

Yeah, I was thinking that the Phoney guy would show up too, actually.
Anyway, the episode was alright. Started out great with hilarious gags like Stewie's "I'm a Homo" parachute and the Flintstones reference, but got a little dull after a while. Stewie beating Brian was pretty hard to watch, and the song number kind of sucked. 3/5

2/5 - That pretty much sucked. What is with this trend of throwing in random 5 minute musical numbers that aren't funny? First it was the old guy in "The Courtship of Stewie's Father" (which was much worse), and now this. It's starting to get aggravating. Stewie beating Brian was right on the line between funny and disturbing. Other than a couple memorable jokes this wasn't a funny episode at all. Just bad overall.

I thought Stewie beating up Brian was a funny gag, since Brian basically had the money all along & willingly endured the pain just to blow off paying Stewie for as long as he could. An episode that had about ten to twelve minutes' worth of 5/5 material, but the remainder was dreadfully padded filler. The musical number was one of the lowest points of the show to date....

A below average episode, sure there were some funny jokes but some parts just went too long.
I was shocked initially with Stewie beating Brian but I found it funny, then it went too long and then it happened again. The Shapoopi thing just sucked, it was way over the top just to show Peters showboating. The worst part is the damn song is stuck in my head.
The good parts, the homo parachute, Carol Channing beating the "young man" Mike Tyson, the wax statue, Brians revenge and Leno trying to kill Brady. I actually thought the funniest part was when Tom Brady was talking to Peter and a knife hits him in the neck, then the camera pans and there's Leno who laughs and runs off.
And ofcourse everyone knew Brians revenge would happen at the very last moment, what we didn't know is how it would happen.

This episode was terrible.
I understand the writers wanted to hammer home the point that in a team environment, individualism is trumped by a collective effort to ensure efficiency and results. But THREE fuckin minutes to do it? And to do it in a terrible musical format?
I don't normally watch this show, but watched it on Sunday. Have to say I was terribly disappointed. I know people say that it is still the best show on television, but I think family guy is overrated, irregardless of Sunday's showing.
It stunk out loud. 1/5. My speculation was overated.

Ew. I didn't catch the first act last Sunday, but I finally caught a vid of the Stewie/Brian beatdown on the internet. Grade goes from a 2 to an easy 1/5. That was the worst thing I've seen in this show, and there have been some pretty low standards set already.

If it keeps on like this...I mean it didn't even get a full season before, I think they're not really in the position to be sucking like this.
They should be pulling out all the stops, Fox hasn't ok'd them for a few more years yet.

The episode was okay.
The best parts to me were Stewie beating the hell out of Brian, then at the end with Brian getting his revenge and when he was taunting him,the worst part of the episode was Shipoopi just because it went on way too long and it was pretty dumb.

Wow...the Stewie/Brian thing has become a real fan divider, people just either love it or hate it, it seems.
Just saw this one last night.
Whoa, talk about a terrible episode. One of, if not THE worst episode of family guy i have seen to date. The song went on too long. There were very few flashbacks, and the whole part with Stewie beating the living shit out of Brian, aside from the fact that it went on far too long, was just painful to watch. 0.5/5

I've not seen this, but I keep hearing about this stewie and brian fight.
What was actually so terrible about it ? The way people are talking about it you'd think it was something that actually happend in real life, It sounds like people were seriously mentally disturbed by the scene.
And what was the actual point to it in the episode why did it happen.
Brian made a bet with Stewie for $50 and lost, and Stewie came up to Brian and asked for his money. Brian didnt have it right then, so stewie then beat the shit through him, pushed him down the stairs, beat him with numerous objects, shoved his head in he toilet and shot him in both knees. It just went on for too long and there just seemed to be no real point to it all. I think it would have worked just as well if they'd kept Stewie's "Yeah um, so when am i gunna get my money?" dialogue and maybe just a threat as opposed to a full blown fight scene.
^ Yeah I might've actually enjoyed that if that was the case.
