post anticipation... what you would like to see.. do you you like the course of the new sets, or would you rather the old?

I do not like the heads.
Here's my idea for the The Simpsons Season 8 cover:
It would be a picture of Lisa with a telescope in the foreground, with Bart and his other friends hanging outside in the Springfield Gorge. I think the spine should be green, but I've talked about that already.
I also talked about TVShowsonDVD.com posting a date, hopefully for April 18th. I like to repeat it, though. It's good to see on a post.

Don't hate the heads, but I'll stick with the standard packaging for sure.
In terms of menus, presentation, features, etc. I like the current course a lot. Only thing though is that I think the "animation showcase" things should be changed so you can actually hear the sound on the animatics or watch them seperately again, like seasons four and five. It was disapointing that six and seven didn't follow this, since the animatics are mainly only interesting to me for the deleted/changed material. As it stands that and the "langauge feature" are the only things I haven't watched on the seventh set (and I do love the illustrated commentaries, so that's not part of my nitpick).
Also, I'd love for them to finally start adding the original fox promos from the time, but eh, what are you gonna do. Though on that note, this would be the right set for the World Series promos they did, right? They should definitely add those if nothing else.

fox has NOT released a street date for the dvd its all just guessing
i like the style of the standard box sets but i HATE the head sets they break to easy too much

It's a tough call as to what color the box is gonna be, i'd like to see it dark green, we have yet to see a green, yellow or orange box...so one of those three is going to be the most likely choice. As for the image on the cover if they keep with the eye thing the idea of lisa behind a telescope is a cool idea, now that everyone's guessing that i'd like to see fox come up with something COMPLETELY different, yet still better than a camera viewfinder. Although as a diehard, i'd love to see fox throw everyone a curveball and have the 'standard' box have a couch gag w/ tv cutout.

The telescope idea's been brought up. Yes, it is a good idea.
I'm hoping the box will be orange. It's my favorite color. We have had green actually (season 2), but not dark green. I like the promo idea and have thought of that also. Hasn't Colonel Homer been the only one released on DVD? Looking forward to owning season eight episodes.

Heads rule. What is this 'break too easy' crap? It's actually looking almost certain to me now that the telescope idea will happen. Can't wait for season 8 (or 7 for that matter) Oakley and Weinstein years haven't been on British terrestrial TV for a couple of years.
I was thinking of a cover for season 10, Bart looking down the sight of a gun at a bird (from Bart The Mother). I don't think they'll do it because they won't want Bart holding a gun on the cover. Plus, what would the menus be? A gun sight on characters from each episode on the disc as birds? Unlikely.

Yes, we need some documentaries...I realise they have a lot of seasons box sets to make and theyre spreading the special features over the whole lot but we've yet to have any real decent behind-the-scenes documentaries...At least one small featuretter per season, like with Seinfeld.
AngryDad33
12-30-2005, 07:10 PM
What they need to do is have someone play Simpsons Hit and Run and have people do commentary on it but that kind of special feature would probably be in a later season.

According to this pic of the prototype boxes (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f6/Simpsons_dvds_6-10.jpg) that appeared on the Internet some time ago, season 8 will be in Lisa's head.
It was right about Marge being season 7's head, so I think it's sure to say that the order of the image will be the real order.

Fox Home Entertainment has stated that seasons 6-10 will use the new 'Simpsons heads' theme. In July 2005, a photo of the next four season sets appeared on the Internet. According to this, Season 8 will feature the head of Lisa; Season 9, Maggie; and Season 10, Bart. However, these are only preliminary designs and are not final (compare the Homer above with the official Season 6 box, and the fact that the Marge head above is on a yellow box, whereas the official Season 7 box is blue).
Im hoping that season 8 is a april releasebecause im out in america in april so the i wont have to wait a month annd a half extra to get it in the u.k

Uh...yeah read above...we've always gotten the release date about two months early and by that person's calculations we could have it as early as February or as late as April.
i think they should put it out like they did with season 7, where they release both the head-box and the old-style box together so that you can choose which one to get. as for the color, i think it's going to be orange or yellow, because they should do all the basic main colors before they start getting into the various shades of different colors.

Earlier. Bill and Josh mentioned in their thread that they had started them, or were about to.
But I don't think any of us would really have any idea beyond that. I would assume it would come out during the summer, which would be the most ideal for me.

Greased Scotsman

It has to come out in the summer. BO & JW said that the complete commentaries take about six to eight weeks, which means that they'll be finished by March. Which would only leave one month for box design, publicity, manufacture & distribution etc. if they were heading for an April release.

True but the Marge head ended up looking different to what was previously seen so the Lisa one is likely to change, not to mention the alternative box design. Still you would think they could easy design the boxes at the same time as recording commentary's, of course it will still take a long time to mass produces and distribute.
Anyway all I know is I will be buying from PlayUSA this time around, tax or no tax I'm not waiting.

what I want to see are behind the scenes special features
Yeah... when the Season 6 DVD set came out, I was hoping there would be 5 DVDs rather than the 4 on Seasons 2-5, with 5 episodes per disc, so that there'd be more room for bonus features. Instead, they're taking away some room by putting 7 episodes on some discs.
I plan to get Season 7 on DVD for my birthday (May 19) this year. Season 8 will probably follow suit, for Christmas 2006. I may finally get Seasons 1 and 2 in 2007, avoiding the Scully era for an extra year and filling in a gap I've been meaning to fill in ever since I got a DVD player in 2003.
Cerpin Taxt
01-26-2006, 07:58 PM
Yeah those are great seasons.
But you can't just skip the Scully era! Certainly not 9. And then picking up at 13 would be wierd.

I personally would rather have as many episodes crammed on to singles discs as possible (without diminishing the quality) and have all of the special features on one disc at the end.

I think I've mentioned this a few times before. If Fox can release "The Lone Gunmen (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006UEVUE/qid=1138648631/sr=1-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-6808587-2749660?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=130)" on DVD - a show which had its first episode feature a government plot to crash a 737 into one one of the twin towers, complete with a special effects scene of the plane just missing one of the towers (from the pilot's POV) - then they'll have no problem putting this episode in its entirety on the DVD.

Me too. Ditto with stuff from other countries, like the UK...heck, I've got a Sky One trailer on tape for The Mansion Family, which I'd be happy to send to Fox if they wanted to put it on The Complete Season 11. Even as an easter egg.
Could you imagine if this was the last season? The show would be without question the greatest sitcom of all-time.
I can imagine the reaction if it had been.
Fans: "A shame, but at least they went out while the show was still good. It could have really got stale had it carried on for a few more years"
Everyone else: "OMG TEH SIMPSONS CANCELLED?!?!?!?!! WTF BRING IT BACK NOW OMG!!!1!!!!1!!!1oneonoeonoes"

Sorry if this was mentioned before but what actually happens if you play a R1 DVD on an R2 player? I have a Jay Z/Linkin Park DVD that came with the CD (hey, I like Linkin Park!) and it says region 1 on the case. It plays black and white on my ps2, but fine on my player. DVDs are region-encoded to ultimately make more money for movie studios. They can then charge different prices in different regions, depending on the nature of the demand in each region, and make it difficult for DVDs from cheap regions to be imported into expensive regions.
That's one big reason why it is really hard to feel bad about DVD piracy, although I would never pirate Simpsons DVDs.

Special features. Well my dream, and many others I am sure, of J.S. doing a commentary is not going to happen. So in the realm of the possible- behind the scenes footage would be fun; a compariosn of the real staff vs. their I&S&P counterparts would be interesting; guest commentators (a la Goldblum from Fish...) would be nice, especially since regular cast members are more and more scarce, in particular John Waters would be a hoot, as well as Duchovny (what else is he doing?) and maybe even Nimoy? I am very curious about the menu format this time around and I am excited to have a good copy of Homer's Enemy (my VHS copy from the original broadcast has some annoying glitches). Bring on the commentaries!

i realy wish they would hurry up with a release date ot is annoying me nowThe Season 6 release date wasn't announced til May. If it's a summer release, we've got a while to go before we get an official date. So I've put you on the Waiting To Exhale waiting list, but don't hold your breath.

I don't like the August date for Season 8. I'll keep hoping for May 16th. TVShowsonDVD should post Season 8's May 16th date and Season 9's August date at 3:45 A.M. It should be ready to be pre-ordered.

That isn't going to happen at all. They won't be released with only 3 months in between. I'm thinking June/July, which is the most likely option. That way, they can squeeze another release into 2006 just before Christmas.

I agree. Fox would lose nothing by saying when every season was coming out and anticipation would be high.
Do people think Fox will ever release more than two sets a year?

Do people think Fox will ever release more than two sets a year?If they do, it'll most likely only happen when the show ends - then the commentaries could be done quicker because the staff won't have commitments with the show. But with everything else that ahs to be done for a set, I can't see them doing more than two a year.

I predict the release date will be in July/August.
That's roughly a six month wait since Season 7 and will neatly fall into the period of limbo between Season 17 ending and Season 18 commencing in September.

yes, he meant 17 & 18, since he was referring to season 8 being released inbetween the season we're currently in and next season, which are 17 and 18 respectively. case closed.
on another topic, has anyone discussed what the menus are like? i assume they'll be like the previous two themed around an episode (you could say that s7 was themed around radioactive man), but which one? the spin-off showcase?

Yeah!!! Where 5-6 things in the Menu refrenced the episodes on the disc.
I know that it has been said alot in season 7 dvd thread but i don't like the people ( not to mention wrong dvd for episode) standing around

Well since we can be quite sure that it will be like 6 and 7, having a character from each episode standing around, in some scenario similar to the alternative box. Hope they actually have I for each episode, unlike 7. And a lot of people have already speculated that the alternate box will be Lisa looking down a telescope and therefore if this was the box, there would be a high chance that the menu would be a 'telescope view' aimed around an area, possibly a different 'episode related' area on each disc. Which would kinda be good since 6 and 7 had all the menus in the same place.

Yeesh, chill out man, don't be a dancing kitty. He wasn't being a pompous ass, he was giving you a friendly reminder not to post unless you have something worthwhile to say and frankly I think you'd be wise to listen because, seriously, you have been posting a heap o' crap lately.
Back on topic, I'm pretty sure what Adzzzz said will be pretty much spot on. I agree about having one menu character per episode, and hopefully they will be placed on the correct disc this time and in the correct order. Also let's hope for some more of those delightful 'Bits from the Animators'
garret
03-12-2006, 12:31 AM
Yes the bits from the animators are always good, I wonder if they'll have any new types of special features. They should also put more deleted scenes in, and the original full audio tracks from the episodes as they were first recorded with any visual aids they had (probably story boards) before they were cut, plus the original script.
Mr. Kurns
03-12-2006, 12:51 AM
Well, there's only as many deleted scenes as there are, and I'm pretty sure they always include all of them. I'd also like to see footage of the recording sessions, just to see the facial expressions and see them have a conversation with themself would be awesome
garret
03-12-2006, 01:15 AM
From hearing the commentaries I'm not sure they include EVERY deleted scene, I mean every little tid bit of animation. and I'd also like to see the animatics from every episode.

Hi, am a new member just found forum today, found an interesting article stating
"Fox Home Entertainment has stated that seasons 6-10 will use the new 'Simpsons heads' theme. In July 2005, a photo of the next four season sets appeared on the Internet. According to this, Season 8 will feature the head of Lisa; Season 9, Maggie; and Season 10, Bart. However, these are only preliminary designs and are not final.

Dancing kitty haha...so do you think the head box will be a different color other than yellow, like how the Marge one was blue?
alt.nerd.obsessive
03-12-2006, 03:31 PM
It will be yellow, it was only coloured blue because that was the most dominant colour and it would have been more expensive to use yellow plastic and then paint most of the front blue.
The "Bits from the Animator" features are brilliant as are the animated commentaries with the drawings done on-screen, I wouldn't mind some "How to draw" extras like on the Futurama DVD or some more audio outtakes...
Mr. Kurns
03-12-2006, 04:03 PM
Yeah, I'd say it'll probably be yellow, although It'd probably look much better if it were, say red maybe, I think the blue is what single-handedly made the Marge head so attractive.
alt.nerd.obsessive
03-12-2006, 04:17 PM
Perhaps, but if it were yellow then Bart's should be red and Maggie's should be blue again (for her dress and hair bow).
Then it would look like this on the shelf -
yellow (Season 6), blue (7), yellow (8), red (9), and blue (10).

According to Amazon.com the head. But both sold really high combining box box sets this might be the highest selling dvd [or close to] the simpsons have had.

Well thats good to know. I know that the head boxes always sell out really fast in retail shops in my local area; I think that perhaps people who wouldn't normally buy the DVDs like these sets due to their limited quantities, or they make good, sought-after gifts.

I personally dont buy the head boxes, only becasue they would not match the first few seasons that came out, so i am glad they also have the more simple and plain design.
Still the the non head boxes are really good the past few seasons a lot more effort has gone into them

Why don't they include the alternate box inside the head box, and everyone could have both? They wouldn't make as much money that way. Also, it would make the head boxes HUGE (so they could fit a regular-sized DVD box inside).
