Bowie as Nikola Tesla is practically worth the price of admission off the bat.

Looks awesome. A serious thriller about competing magicians....I'm fuckin' there.
Brilliant, I hope it does well beacuse it will encourage other non-standard genre movies. Plus it looks awesome. Plus, Bowie & Caine.

Buying the book next chance I get. I've heard nothing but good things. And as predicted, Bowie as Tesla is a genius move.

"The Illusionist" was awesome. I have even higher hopes for this.

I thought the trailers for The Illusionist looked a little dull, but maybe I'll check it out if I really like this.

edward norton made the illusionist amazing.

Correction, Giamatti did. I will say Norton helped out, but it's obviously the cinematography that controls a movie like that.
Anyway, yeah this looks pretty good. Still there's plenty of movies coming out sometime soon that are higher priorities.

anyone seen this? i just got back and i must say for me this is right up there with the departed.
the trailers really dont do the movie justice at all, me and my friend had it all figured out about 70 minutes in, but it still had me second guessing myself and filled with anticipation.
i would honestly say that this entertained me more than the departed, but the departed was a better movie.
honestly it seemed like there was never a boring moment in this film, and that is really hard to come by these days.

i was talking to a girl i know just now and we were talking about how great it is when you go into a movie expecting something decent and you come out thinking how great it is.

Saw it openning night, pretty good. The Nolan's have mastered the non-linear story.

Yeah, I'm with everyone on this. I just read the book last month and was impressed by how unfaithful the film was to the uneven parts of the book. It meant that even though I knew what the plot twists were, I had no idea how the movie was actually going to come off. Fantastic.

If I can get to a theater, I'm going to try to see this while it's still out... love both of the actors and Nolan is 3-for-3.

i loved the departed but there was some slower parts, but with that kind of story its qquite hard not to have slow parts, in the prestige it felt like there was never a "slow" moment

Bump... see this while it's still in theaters, people. One of the most airtight plots I've ever seen, which is impressive considering the complexity of the narrative.
Really, really great cast, Nolan of course knows how to make an excellent movie, and overall it was one of the most intriguing and well-executed movies I've seen this whole year.
Was like "The Illusionist", if you'll pardon the obvious comparison, except with an infinitely better story and a much stronger cast.

I dunno if you could call the plot airtight, I thought it got a bit preposterous towards the end, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. It's the kind of movie filled with all kinds of symmentry and shit like that that'll get you discussing it for ages. I definitely reccommend it. Only real disapointment was Bowie's performance as Tesla. I was hoping he'd ham it up bigtime.

With the exception of the Tesla machine, which falls under the rule that any movie is allowed one fundamentally unbelievable or fantastic device or plot element - this is a universally respected rule, by the way - everything in the film is plausible. It's entirely possible, the twin thing explains every strange event involving Bordman (sp?) in the film, and me and my friends spent quite a while analyzing the consciousness aspect of the Tesla machine, and it's consistent.
What's so extraordinary about that is that it's two major twists that cause you to reevaluate both plot threads entirely, and yet nothing becomes inconsistent. Many, many movies fail to be consistent after even one twist.
You might find it a bit absurd, but there's nothing essentially preposterous about it if you accept that to the characters their actions make sense, and that the Tesla machine is the only device that's actually not possible.
