I'm looking for music somewhat in the vein of any of the following: xiu xiu, godspeed you black emperor, bjork, animal collective, the books, the microphones... experimental, electronic, ambient, avantgarde, lofi, postrock, contemporary... just different, brilliant, and original is what I ask.

sorry for being so vague... boredoms and books is the kind of stuff I'm looking for. not totally relying on experimental or aleatoric sounds but interestingly different.

Weirdo chick folk 30 years before Joanna Newsom. One of the best albums I've ever heard. Seriously.

haha, yeah...they are the eyeball dudes. im pretty sure boards of canada owe their entire sound to them.

03-12-2007, 11:50 AM
uh, really? for some reason i did not have them filed under chillout tunes. care to up a track or album?
Milhouse Van Houten
03-12-2007, 12:05 PM
i have no idea why i said boards of canada. they are far from it...i don't even think there was another band i meant to type and just slipped up, thats not right at all though. if you are looking for chill out tunes, not really the band to go for. i also don't know how to upload stuff, if you hit me up on AIM i can file send you some stuff. if you are still interested that is.

i fell asleep while listening to super ae on my headphones the other night. big fucking mistake, for some reason i thought it was some kinda ambient droney type thing. totally killed my night.
also could someone plz upload starsailor? i'd love to hear it and i'm pretty sure it's unavailable in all of the land. i've looked for ages.

yeah this thread is really embarrasing
you know, I've always been meaning to check out tim buckley... I second the motion for starsailor

buckley seems out of place on the list. his singing is a little off kilter but the record might be the least weird of the bunch. my dad loves starsailor

can you upload some jandek? i have been looking daily on soulseek for people sharing his music since like july, yet to find anything. also...have you seen the documentary on him?
I'm quite surprised that nobody has mentioned the Butthole Surfers yet. It always seemed like they would take the cake. Check out this album of theirs, "Locust Absorption Technician":

I have the documentary. I like it. It's really people talking about him, he's not in the film at all. The cool thing about it is a 40 minute interview done back in 1985 via telephone. That's an extra on the dvd.
Go here for lots of Jandek samples

If this doesn't bring you to his stuff, type in Jandek in the search field. Enjoy!!

i have also seen the documentary, a buddy of mine that owns it and myself watched it with a head full of mushrooms one night over the summer, this has been my only exposure to his music. i didn't see any of the special features.

Praxis: Transmutation
weird (but interesting) instrumental album, featuring the very weird lineup of Buckethead, Brain, Bootsy Collins, and Bernie Worrell....
colonel claypool's bucket of bernie brains - the big eyeball in the sky
really strange album. i really cannot classify it as a genre, its bizarre experimental modern funk with serious hints of progressive rock. it's really weird but cool, probably one of the oddest albums of this decade imo. bernie worrell, buckethead, les claypool and bryan mantia are the dudes featured in this group, it's pretty great. keyboard work is probably my favorite thing about it

man, imagine the weird weird music you'd hear if bernie worrell and buckethead got together in the same band!
