I was going to post something along the same lines but you beat me to it.
There is a site somewhere where you can download the shorts (forgotten the URL though). Couldn't get them to work on my PC, though.

I think they've only released the first short in the first season DVD. They should release all the shorts in one set, like a mini-season. And have commentary on them. Those commentaries would be good, unlike SOME of the commentaries on the new episodes.

the reason they wont release them on dvd is because fox only has the right to the first short and need to get the rest of the rights from what i think tracy ullman but she said shed never give them away because shes still pissed that the simpsons are big and her show got cancelled

That's the site I was talking about, again they don't seem to work. A Real Player window opens, then nothing happens. And my PC runs on broadband...
As a matter of interest, do any secondary characters appear in the shorts, or is it just OFF?

get a better player. they are in avi format, maybe the sucky real player can't play them. download them then use windows media player if you don't have anything better.
krusty the clown, itchy & scratchy, and grampa appear in the shorts

FOX has the rights to everything that ever aired on its network. Its up to them to release the shorts or not.

Well first of all, Fox Broadcasting Company and 20th Century Fox are two entirely separate entities. Only what TCF completely owns the rights to can they release on DVD through their Fox Home Video distribution branch. The FOX network (and every other television network, for that matter) airs many shows produced by other studios/companies. The O.C., for instance, has nothing to do with FOX production-wise. Fox Broadcasting Company pays Warner Bros. a huge license fee (which is what primarily finances the series' production) for exclusive television distribution rights to air it on FOX, but Warner Bros. still owns the rights to sell the show through all other distribution channels (DVD, for example).

But if Ullman was Pissed why'd she guest star on the show

look at snpp.com/other/articles/ullman.html it says she sued simpsons in 1992
Fox can't obtain the rights for a 'reasonable' price, it seems. Also, I doubt the Ullman clan would give up their biggest selling point--the Shorts--of the Ullman Series DVD's, if such a set is ever released.

They were able to put some of the shorts on "THe Best of" video series of Simpsons episodes. In between the two episodes was an Ullman short, I believe.
But if Ullman was Pissed why'd she guest star on the show
Bart's Dog Gets An F was before she sued the show. I guess she didn't get really pissed off at them until it got HUGELY popular at the third season.

It really sucks, I really would love to own all of them on a nice DVD with high quality and maybe a few extras. I'm tired of my bootleg copy, where some have the beginnings and ends chopped off, or look like they were copied multiple times off of various video tapes.
I've never seen the Tracy Ullman show out side of the Simpson's shorts, and really have little interest in owning any of it on DVD, so I really hope that will not be the only way to own these in the future.
Didn't Matt mention recently that they were working on a way to get these to the fans?
Yeah, he something about "trying to get them available on cell phones, because they're the only screens good enough for that primitive animation" or something. I guess that thing was a joke, but I'm sure they are trying to work out some way of getting the shorts out.

How do you know? I'm betting they would be something like "Oh, god. That's terrible. We didn't know what we were doing back then. I just... ugh. Well looks like we're out of time." X 48

I doubt these will be released on a real DVD, but I have a fairly good bootleg copy. The quality is shitty, but all of the shorts are there and uncut. I'm happy with that for now.

Why did you bump this thread? Dr. Cheeks already answered the question. And even if he didn't, it's not like year old threads need to be bumped if a question was somehow ignored.
