Yeah, anyone that has been interested in this (all 3 of you) should know that it has definitely been leaked (ripped with great quality). Release for Japan would've been 9/14, but the US release date was pushed back to 11/29. But someone got a torrent of the full movie up.

However, it is all in Japanese, there are no translations at the moment (there are Japanese subs but I don't know how to work them).

EDIT: English subs (http://www.filefarmer.com/scope/ffsubs.zip)are now available!

But I swear, you wouldn't give a shit about the lack of translations, you'd be too busy drooling over how great it is (at least until the second time you watch, at which point you'd want to know what's being said).

Obviously, I'm sure most of you would rather wait to buy or at least wait for a version you can understand, but still, if you ARE interested in seeing this early, you can get the torrent here (http://www.torrentspy.com/search.asp?mode=torrentdetails&id=405824&query=advent+children) (same as the link in my sig). Here is a sample (http://www.atgig.com/xtremevillan/bien-xvid-ff7-sample.avi) from the movie/torrent (about 1 minute long, doesn't really spoil anything you wouldn't have seen in trailers/promo pics).

My reaction to the movie is here (http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1502402#post1502402) if anyone bothers to actually watch. Full of spoilers, though, so don't look unless you've watched (duh).

The runtime is 1:41:01, from opening credits to end credits. Even if you don't watch it, you can still talk/ask any questions about the movie here.

Any spoilers must be put in a spoiler tag.

Fan subs are out already? Holy shit. I've never used these before, so I have no idea what to do with them. Do I need a seperate program for this or something, kup? Or do I just unzip the file where I saved the movie?

Unzip the file to where ever you saved the movie, give it the exact same name as whatever you named the movie file. Then get yourself VirtualDub and VobSub from this place (http://www.divx-digest.com/software/vobsub.html)(if VobSub download won't work, get it here (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/subtitle_tools/vobsub.cfm)), turn on the caption option in whatever player you have, and you'll have subbies http://www.nohomers.net/images/smilies/smiley.gif

Awesome. Thankee :MrT:

Watching this, all I can think of is just how fucking incredible it would be to see it on IMAX, or even just a regular old theater. This thing just screams to be shown on the big screen.

The memory of Sephiroth battle is quite possibly the greatest fight scene ever. Just...wow.

Avent Children would most certainly not only cause epileptic siezures, but would probably give people epilepsy.

Not really spoilers, but will tag it anyway.

Reno was kind of annoying with all the "yos"

Was going to be pissed if they never showed Aeris' face, but they finally revealed it.

Absolutely loved how they worked in the Victory Theme. After Tifa's fight and it appeared that she had won, I was sitting there thinking "hmm, shame they can't just stick in the Victory Theme." Then it played, Tifa had kind of a confused look on her face and I couldn't stop laughing. Then it happened again and I realized it sounded like a cell phone ring tone. Perfect.

I liked how they worked in Cait Sith. Stuffed animal was just being carried around by a kid and the cat was riding on Red XIII. Although, as I recall, Cait Sith was just a Shinra employee controlling the cat. Why continue?

Who was Denzel? He got more attention then most of the FF7 heros (Yuffie, Barrett, Cid, Red XIII kinda). For that matter, why weren't they involved in the story more?

Midgar didn't look much like Midgar anymore. Some of the early trailers showed it clearly wasn't long ago and I think you could still make out the Sister Ray. I don't think the old reactors were seen at all (possibly taken down I suppose).

Little disappointed we didn't see more familiar places. Kinda hoped when Cloud and one of the grey hairs went down into that canyon place, they'd be fighting it out in that old playground.

Loved the remade scenes from the game. Just makes me want an remake of FF7 that much more.

I probably a feel a little sorry for the people that did play through FF7 that come to watch this thinking they fully understood the game, but missed the scene with the flashback to how Zack saved Cloud.

Story seemed a little iffy, but that may just be because of the subs. I might need to watch multiple times to understand better.

AC started out as a 20 minute thing about Cloud and Tifa, so naturally they got the spotlight more, even as the movie grew longer. Vincent and Yuffie are both in DoC, and Barret, Cait Sith, and Cid are also in it (Cloud and Tifa, too but I don't think they'll involve them too much since they had AC), so that's probably why they didn't showcase them too much in AC. They'll probably do more in DoC, maybe even CC, just like the Turks are more prominent in BC.

As for Denzel, there is an official story on the Japanese website that tells Denzel's story between FFVII and AC. You can read the translations of part 1 and 2 on adventchildren.net. It's pretty interesting.

Midgar didn't look much like Midgar anymore. Some of the early trailers showed it clearly wasn't long ago and I think you could still make out the Sister Ray. I don't think the old reactors were seen at all (possibly taken down I suppose).

It's not Midgar. It's the city of Edge. Midgar is destroyed. Edge is adjacent to it.

How'd I miss that? Where do you get this info? I did rewatch it and we do see Midgar is pretty much worthless and then the shot kinda pulls back to the city.

OVA was nice. Tifa's got her brown hair and burgundy eyes and all http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/images/smilies/smile11.gif I so wish she would've stayed that way for the movie and looked less Rinoa-ish, but whatever, she still kicked ass. But yeah, LO is pretty good for just a short (25:23) re-telling of the Nibelheim incident, even with, uh, certain changes. Zack is an awesome guy...

So hang Now there's 'On A Way To A Smile' which is just a written thing only available on the site (which I'm in the middle of reading) and now there's Last Order a re telling of what really happend in the Nibelheim incident, but where's this going to be available, what's the point of it.
but after all this there's spinoff games to come. Honestly by the time all this is done LOTR is going to look like a short story.

A New Order is on the Japanese special edition DVD release. I haven't seen any indication that this will be released in other markets.

Actually, FF7's story is quite long as it is. Besides Dirge, don't forget the mobile phone game, Before Crisis.

With all this milking of FF7, I'm surprised they haven't caved in and done what like half the FF7 fans want, and remake it with current graphics, ala the PS3 tech demo.

H Thompson
09-14-2005, 07:25 AM
So Dirge is about Vincent so is it known what it's supposed to add to the story and what about Before Crisis, obviously a prequel but about who, I presume it's not really going to add anything of much intrest to story and characters if it's just a mobile phone game

They should remake 7 in a few years on PS3 or even PS4 and implment everything that's come after, Advent Children,Dirge,Before,On A Way, It'll would take about 500 hours to complete.

Before Crisis involves the Turks. It's been quite a while since I read anything about it, and it isn't out yet, so I don't recall the details of what exactly they'll be doing or how it plays into the story. But I think it takes place 5 years prior to FF7, or in other words, around the time of Sephiroth, Zack, and Cloud going to Nibelheim. But I may be wrong on that. Too lazy to look it up on IGN right now. Since we don't know a whole lot about the Turks, I think it can provide some insight into the workings of Shinra. How important can that be to the overall story though? Who knows. And really, how much of a game can there be on a cell phone?

H Thompson
09-14-2005, 11:22 AM
Yeah I wouldn't imagine a cell phone game would have much in the way of a story.
Also isn't there Crisis Core as well which is being released on PSP which is about Zack.

kupomog
09-14-2005, 12:28 PM
Last Order is not coming with the US edition (or any other edition) as far as we know. That could change by the time November hits, but I highly doubt it will. If you want it, you'll have to import the Ultimate Edition DVD. It's just a bonus extra, anyway.

On the Way to a Smile is being released with a collection of interviews in a small book called Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Prologue. Only in Japan, of course, and it should be out already. Also not really all the important and just there if you really want to know about Denzel's life before he came to live with Tifa.

Crisis Core is probably about Zack, but no one really knows exactly what it's about yet. It did seem to involve itself with scenes from Last Order when I saw a preview clip.

Before Crisis seems to be rather popular. Probably just because you get to see the slightly younger versions of everyone in the party and more re-tellings of backstories.

Anyway, there's probably a reason that these are all specifically part of a Compilation, ya know. I doubt they'd make much sense without each other. Frankly, I'm sure if the fans demand it overwhelmingly, FFVII could probably be remade.

AC was a total fan service movie, so I ain't complaining.

^^ i've heard rumors of a remake in the issue of .. well i lost the magazine. lol. they had a small little remake of the beginning scenes of ff7 at that one big gaming convention. i hope they do! ff7 is my favorite of all the final fantasies series.

well i thought the movie was pretty good. this makes me wonder, will they do anything for Final Fantasy 8,9, or 10 ?

Bumperture.

Well, that video(E3 test) was done as a demonstration of the PS3's powers. They expressly said that they had no plans to remake any of the recent FF titles. But who knows?

Now, I just watched Advent Children for the third time, and uh, holy shiet. Brilliance. Not just as a total fan service, but as a movie, very well made.

When all the kids are jumping into lifestream at the end

This first thing that came to my mind was "Don't play in that water too long kids, you might go into a coma!"

Opinion I've heard outside this forum is that it's shit in terms of plot but the action is impressive.

kupomog
10-05-2005, 06:41 PM
Yeah people keep bitching about the plot and how "it's not realistic" physics-wise which makes me laugh. I really don't have a problem with it, it's pretty bland in the story department and predictable but everything else makes up for it. I wasn't expecting the movie to be amazing in that way to begin with.

I got AC's OST, as well. It's not bad. There are some tracks in there that make me think "this is a waste" but overall I enjoy it. My faves as posted in another thread:

"Divinity II"
"Cloud Smiles"
"Advent: One-Winged Angel"
"Battle in the Forgotten City"
"The Promised Land"
"J-E-N-O-V-A [FFVII AC Version]"
"Those Who Fight [FFVII AC Version]"
"Water"
"Beyond the Wasteland"
"Violator"

By the way, if anyone has been keeping up with On the Way to a Smile, Denzel's story is over (last part was pretty good) and they started on Tifa's (Case of Tifa (http://xthost.info/ffwebnovel/)), which rocks. I'm not just saying it because she's my favorite. You get to read quite a bit about Cloud, how he and Tifa got along after everything that went on in the game, how Denzel came to be with them, and there's some stuff with Barret, as well. It gives a little more body to everything.

Also, Yuffie (http://xs49.xs.to/pics/05403/yuffie-scan.jpg) looks kind of cool in DoC, but I miss her outfit from AC already.

p2501
10-05-2005, 11:44 PM
That version of One Winged Angel rocked.

And about the physics, yeah. These people at an A-Kon near my house kept
saying: That's stupid, how come Sephiroth's flying?

My response: Becuase he's fucking Sephiroth, thats why.

Yeah Case of Tifa was great, As you said it's intresting to see the relationships of the character's after the game, it's fun to have Cloud, Tifa and Barret together just talking to each other again.
I guess we might see that for some other characters.

So yuffie feature's heavily in DoC as well. That's intresting do they even exchange any dialoge in the game.

Well, all the chapters (Denzel, Tifa, Aerith) of On the Way to a Smile are all in the FFVII AC Prologue book and Ultimania Omega guide that was released, so whoever has it has the rest of the short stories. So far, someone did chapter 6 of Aerith's part, and Hojo appears in it (which is also why this place translated it).

Finally an Official US Release Date!

After months of speculation and rumors, an official US release date has finally been given for Advent Children. The movie will be released on April 25th for both DVD and UMD as a special double-disc set. Unfortunately Last Order is not set to be included as a special feature.

http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/shared/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

(but secretly joygasms....oh wait, I wasn't supposed to type that.)

Oh yeah, and voice cast, also from KH2 is, of course, Steve Burton from the first KH as Cloud...and as for Aerith and Tifa...we've got Mena Suvari and Rachel Leigh Cook, respectively. Bah on Cook. Sorry, but her voice sounds so damn dead in every movie I've seen her in.

kupomog
02-16-2006, 07:18 PM
So the rest of the cast has been named in the past few days. A bunch are standard anime fare, some are big names, some I have no freaking clue about:

Cloud Strife: Steve Burton
Tifa Lockhart: Rachael Leigh Cook (meh)
Kadaj: Steve Staley (tons of anime)
Rufus Shinra: Wally Wingert
Reno: Quinton Flynn (lots of stuff...FFX-2's Isaaru is a recent one)
Rude: Crispin Freeman (lots of stuff...was Balmung in the .hack series)
Yazoo: Dave Wittenberg
Loz: Fred Tatasciore
Vincent Valentine: Steve Blum (who didn't see that coming?)
Barett Wallace: Beau Billingslea (lots of anime, again)
Cid Highwind: Chris Edgerly (Harvey Birdman's Peter Potamus, I think..)
Yuffie Kisaragi: Christy Romano
Cait Sith: Gregg Ellis
Red XIII: Liam O'Brien
Reeve: Jamieson Price
Tseng: Ryun Yu
Elena: Bettina Bush
Marlene: Wallace Grace Rolek
Denzel: Benjamin Bryan
Girl: Andrea Bowen
Zack: Rick Gomez (FFX-2's Gippal)
Aerith Gainsborough: Mena Suvari (yeah, I can see her in the flower girl (http://www.aboutfilm.com/movies/a/americanbeauty2.jpg) bit XD)
Sephiroth: George Newbern (FFX-2's Meyvn Nooj)

bumparoo.

Movie seemed better with English voicework. No more "yo" from Reno. Rather ticked they couldn't be bothered to translate 4 lines of text at the begining after all these months. It's 4 lines. Englishanize it! As is, it requires captions and if you wind up leaving it on, you see discrepancies from the captions and spoken words.

Also, this seems to be in very limited supply. Friend went to Target at lunch, sold out. They had one place for it, so they didn't get more then a handful of copies. I went to Best Buy HQ after 2, they were sold out. Was told they only got 21 copies. Went to another Best Buy a couple miles away, sold out. Went to Target, same story with just one spot for it. One copy. Mine.

On a related note, rumors coming out of the pre-E3 event is that FF7 remake is already in the works. Possibly find out the truth at E3, but I highly doubt that. I'm sure they want to announce that in Japan.

Wouldn't be too surprised if they said something about FFVII's remake. Nomura did say he would make it whenever he "got the chance." I figured he had a lot of stuff to work on as it is right now, though.. so if they're already working on the remake then wow.

Oh yeah, so the movie was pretty much sold out in every store that was supposed to receive it, but a nearby Wal-Mart still had a bunch of them.

Some people really hate the dub but aside from a few moments of a lack of needed emotion, I thought the dub was pretty damn good, even Suvari was bearable. I know a guy that liked all the voices except Marlene, but I didn't think Marlene was too bad...but kids are kids so they rarely bug me unless they just plain have irritating voices. But in the opening, I heard more of "The Promised Land" than I ever did of Marlene, voice was so soft...or I was just not paying attention to her.

Yazoo and Loz annoyed me with their first few lines, though. They just sounded deader than they should've. Nonchalant is one thing, but they just sounded emotionless when Kadaj had a lot of personality to his voice. It got a little better for them later but I found their voices to be the weakest. At least Suvari didn't screw up Aerith's very last line, I would've been pissed, that was such a great moment in the movie. Cid's voice matches better in the movie than it did in KH2, I think it's because, to me, he looked like an old man in the game in the way he was rendered. And the voice just made him sound even older, which I didn't like. I was also surprised to see Romano's name in the credits for Yuffie, especially after she went AWOL on KH2. Not complaining, but I wonder why Mae Whitman had to do the voice in the game. I miss Reno's "yo" :( It made his phone call to Tifa so much cuter when she copied him.

I can't believe they didn't translate the beginning, either. All these delays, we don't even get Last Order, and they can't translate a few lines of Japanese text on a black background. I'm surprised they didn't just dub Reminiscence, either. But that's okay...no biggie. The DVD paraphrased translation of the Japanese game scenes makes me remember how bad some of the translations in the NA game were... "This guy are sick," bahaha. Too bad they didn't throw in the part where Cloud crossdresses.
