Not as many as you think, I've read a lot of people who say that they have one of the best offenses in the league, and that because of it they will be over five hundred. Anyone who picks them to finish any higher than last is giving them too much credit.

You bring a tear to my eye gravy. I HATE the Colts more than any team, besides the BoSux.
Manning is a hack. He's had pressure situations brought to him many a time against some of the AFC's best. Yet he chokes every time. He tanks in the pocket, and can't read audibles to save his life.
Worst of all, when HE throws a stinker of a game, he never admits responsibility. Ever. You call that a team leader? Hell no.
Go Eagles baby.

Any credibility you once had in my eyes for liking the Yankees has just been washed away with those three little words.

Replace the first word of the first sentence with "McNabb". Makes sense said that way too, doesn't it?

Look, No matter how good he is, that contract he signed will keep that team from being competitive simply because the salary cap won't allow them to pay him and a decent defense (let alone Edge James and Marvin Harrison). Whenever anyone calls him such a great team player it makes me laugh. You think Montana or Favre would've signed a contract worth a few millions more if it would cost em a ring?
Didn't think so.

yeah, how on earth are we ever going to pay for marvin harrison (locked up for 7 yeears last year) and a decent defense (corey simon, dwight freeny).
and surely, peyton never does well against the AFC elite (forgetting the patriots, name one top AFC team that's beaten us. we lost last year to a streaking KFC and a lucky jacksonville.). We beat the ravens last year, rather nicely, the chargers, the vikings and whatever "elite" team was thrown at us.

it's true though...manning is such a hack. he hacked his way all the way to 49TDs and a 120+ rating. hack, hack, hack, hack, hack, hack.
eagles suck. go away.
rickey
09-07-2005, 07:53 PM
Peyton manning is coached by Tony Dungy, a great defensive mind, yet due to his huge salary and constant choking in big games, he put the man to shame. How long did it take him to win a playoff game? And when he did finally win one, the other team had JAKE PLUMMER and MIKE SHANNAHAN at coach.
In fact, you can make a lot of parallels between Manning and Culpepper, both have amazing receivers (Moss and Harrison) who make them look far better than they are, both put up amazing numbers that make you think they must be good. And neither one of them can get it done when it counts, unless they are on your fantasy team.
And neither one of them can get it done when it counts
they said the same thing about elway, and look how he ended up.

i'm glad you've learned the ignorant argument theory of constantly changing your argument when someone proves you wrong. but moving on.
yes, it's true, a 29 year old man clearly has no shot at a ring. 10 mroe years in his career you say? bah! nonsense. it's clearly written in the skies.
Montana also never had a great WR. Nope. Never heard of these guys. Total nobodies.
eagles play in the AFC and they win just as many playoff games as the colts.
Your argument from there is just loud obnoxious fallacies, so i'm not even going to bother.
Spartan
09-07-2005, 08:05 PM
you misspelled peyton, gravy.
I love that once the COLTS (no one man loses or wins a football game, I'll be damned sure of that) beat Denver in the wild-card round before last, people didn't brush off the "peyton can't win a big game" shtick. Nor when they beat Kansas City.
On the road. Never throwing an INT in either game, or having to punt the ball away.
You never learn.

He's all flash and no substance. He's been that way since his playing days at Tennesee.
And he never beat Brady and Belichick, either. I know that must be killing him inside.
3 SB rings in 4 years is a lot more telling of how great a qb you are, than a bunch of NFL columnists writing glowing columns about you and your amazing qb rating or TD passed.
Spartan
09-07-2005, 08:11 PM
oh really.
I guess that's why he's the all-time winningest quarterback at Tennessee with an SEC title and beat Alabama 3 times in row (something a Vol QB hadn't done in decades). HELL...I don't think ANY SEC quarterback has ever done that.
so if peyton never put up big numbers and was just a solid, winning quarterback, would you care? if he was like any other top ten QB in the league who got the job done on the field but didn't have playstation numbers, would you still be this adament?
I think we all know the answer.

09-07-2005, 08:18 PM
Why Peyton got the starting position at Tennesee is beyond me. I think Tee Martin deserved it way more than him.
Because, you know, he has the leadership factor and all. While Manning whines like a little bitch on every play.
And those audibles. Jesus christ, just throw the fucking ball already.
He has probably the best offense in the league at his disposal, yet manages to second-guess himself, waste time in the pockets, and turn the ball over too many times to make an impact. When you won 3 superbowls in 4 years, like the pats did, maybe I can take Manning seriously.
Until then I stick to my point that Manning can't win when his team and city is dependent on him. He chokes like Ron Jeremy just gave him deep throat.
Edit:That said, I'm pumped for the upcoming season. Hope the trash talk will continue cuz the pats and Eagles are the AFC teams to beat. And Pitt too.

TEE MARTIN
good god.
You do realize where he's ended up right? Back at home in Mobile, AL, chilling with his friends. I love the guy, but good lord. He was a QB who handed the ball off to Jamal Lewis and Travis Stephens. That's 200 yards a game. He also had an incredulous amount of talent surrounding him at receiver. A solid QB in a great offensive system...the best the SEC has seen since Spurrier's mid 90s run-n-gun. it's the vols bread and butter. 1998 was a product of luck (yeah I know) and a great, outstanding defense with a duo (trio, if you include injuried travis henry) of nfl primed backs.
...

ARE YOU FUCKING seriously saying Tee Martin should've played at Tennessee over Manning. Peyton Manning.

Im waiting for the day that everyone realizes that hes the second coming of Dan Marino. And what did Dan Marino win? Thats right, nothing. The reason why all these guys love him so much is because after the Rush Limbaugh debacle, the media couldnt wait to show us all that a white man was back in charge of the QB position. Im waiting for the day that Armen Ketayen or some other sideline reporter just pulls off his pants and starts sucking his cock on the field on camera. Will you be surprised? Neither will I.

It's those whites. Always against the blacks. Like a kid at school said, "Ain't no white man ever helped a black man." And, maybe, do you think they put him in charge of the position... because he's the one with the best passing stats? Better than McNabb's, last time I checked. And, oh yeah, he's won the BIGGEST game just as many times as Donovan.
rickey
09-07-2005, 08:55 PM
But he's never won the biggest game. always gets stopped cold in the AFC finals by the Patriots. and you can't even deny that. Brady is a better qb than Manning will ever be. Peyton is dan Marino 2.0.
Dead Nigga Storage
09-07-2005, 08:57 PM
if peyton still hasn't won the big game 10 years from now, come back and make this argument all you want. the guy is TWENTY-NINE FUCKING YEARS OLD. he's got plenty of time in front of him to win it all, and you're sitting here calling him a hack based on an entire career that hasn't even happened yet. this is mind blowing...just shut up already.

If he wasn't so damn greedy, and allowed the Colts GM to make a few more roster moves on the defense, they might have a chance.
Tom Brady is 27 and he already won 3 fucking superbowls. This is his prime, his time to shine, yet stupid decision making and pointless moves, which are overlooked by his admittedly good offensive skill, he's not going to amount to shit and won't win anything if he continues down the "Me First" path. The pats are all about team chemistry. Manning has gotta wake up and realize time is running out.
Plus he has a ton of other competition in the AFC waiting to take that second spot from the Colts.

the colts GM offered him exactly what peyton took. there was little negociation. the system is built to thrive exactly as it is. they've retained their two huge play makers on defense, two of their top WRs, their leader and their RB (the only reason we're not giving him a long term contract is he isn't super-duper happy to play away from FL and we're not sure how long hes good for--a GM's mistake, not money problem)

you're using idiotic fallacious arguments that sound like the stuff i was against in the third grade. i tend to use bans to trim out ignorant bullshit like that so we have actual discussion, not unbacked namecalling.

you're using idiotic fallacious arguments that sound like the stuff i was against in the third grade. i tend to use bans to trim out ignorant bullshit like that so we have actual discussion, not unbacked namecalling.
Whatever. Agree to disagree then. You have loyalty for your team, no matter how much I think Manning sucks. I can respect that.

Here's my breakdown of each game in Week 1:
1PM:
Chicago vs. Washington - Maybe the worst game of the week, good defenses vs. bad offenses. Pick: Chicago, 13-6
Cincinatti vs. Cleveland - Carson Palmer will emerge with Chad Johnson as the new Manning to Harrison, Cleveland will be left defenseless. Expect Braylon Edwards to get about 50-60 yards in his first game. Pick: Cincy, 27-10
Denver vs. Miami - aside from a decent debut for Ronnie Brown, expect the Broncs to trample the Dolphins. Pick: Denver, 35-7
Houston vs. Buffalo - Houston has all the tools ready, but I think they have a poor first half before picking it up in the 4th Quarter against a mediocre Bills team. Pick: Houston, 24-16
New Orleans vs. Carolina - The Saints beat a Super Bowl-contending Carolina team for their fans spread across the Gulf. Pick: Saints 21-20
New York Jets vs. Kansas City - Kansas City's offense outscores that of the Jets. Both will win in double digits this year though. Pick: Chiefs 34-27
Seattle vs. Jacksonville - Byron Leftwitch and the Jags make a statement to the league by easily beating an overrated Seahawk team. Pick: Jags, 24-7
Tampa Bay vs. Minnesota - Moss who? Expect Daunte Culpepper to throw for 300 yards and Gruden continues to lose hair without a viable star at any of the 3 skill positions on offense. Pick: Vikings 41-13
Tennesee vs. Pittsburgh - Tennessee is also very overrated, Pittsburgh won't need much (as usual) to beat them. Pick: Steelers 17-10
Arizona vs. New York Giants - I think the Giants are a very improved team that has enough weapons on offense (Burress, Shockey, healthy Toomer, Barber) to beat this, again, highly overrated Cardinals team. Pick: Giants 24-10
Dallas vs. San Diego - Cowboys surprise everyone by beating a solid Charger team. With Peerless Price in the slot, all the 'boys need to win is for Bledsoe to be solid. Wouldn't surprise me if he threw for 250 and 3 scores. That Dallas "D" is scary. Pick: Cowboys, 28-9
Green Bay vs. Detroit - This is a tough one, but I think Joey Harrington gets the win, and has a better performance than he would with Garcia not breathing down his neck. Pick: Lions, 16-10
St. Louis vs. San Fransisco - No contest. Rams offense picks apart the Niners. Pick: Rams, 37-6
Colts vs. Ravens - I like the Ravens defense to win it at home. Pick: Ravens 17-13
Atlanta - Philly pick will come on Monday.

did not have to evacuate...fucking news. they gave an update at 5pm yesterday that the storm likely would not make any landfall on s.c. so it worked out well.
love nfl sunday ticket. it is perhaps the greatest invention ever. I can watch the skins game and see all the other games scores, then check for team and individual stats during commercials and timeouts.
ok on to my skins. defense looks like it will be lights out again. portis was a beast. 20 extra pounds really showed. offensive line played well after the 1st qrtr. ramsey was throwing high again. brunell managed things well. if they find a way to get points out of the passing game then I will be happy. cooley was overthrown twice on potentially big plays. bears defense came to play as well. expected it to be low scoring aside from previous predicition. skins were lucky to win the game. however if the fumble never happened...we are talking about a shutout.
now I brace myself for a loss next week. its a division road game early in the season. you got to hope they find a way to score some points.
steelers looked nasty, very nasty. secondary was everywhere.

My hate for PSU comes from an Uncle who went there during Joe Pa's hayday. I have constantly been bombarded with Nittany Lion rhetoric my entire life and have successfully turned it all away. Also, being friends with many Penn State fans in college didn't help.
ASO, things with your sister could be much worse. You could have been a Michigan fan.

other than the fact that they are the 11th member, not really. they are a similar school to ohio state, wisconsin and michigan, and western pennsylvania is more midwestern than northeastern anyway. if you put all of the northeastern schools in one conference, penn state would stick out more

ASO: I am strictly a WFAN guy, but the other day I switched over to WIP to hear the reaction to the Monday night football game. Holy shit, it was like the team was 0-4 to some of these callers. All the Eagles fans I know bleed green and would never sound the way some of these guys sounded. Is this bridge-jumper mentality a regular occurrence among the Eagle faithful that call the station?

Philly fans are passionate and intelligent... save those yahoos who call the radio station. I listen all the time (as I can while I work, and I tend to find it entertaining/masochistic), but calling would never be an option.
The people who call are in no way representative of the greater population. They are truly bridge-jumpers, and if they don't give Philly a bad name... they contribute more often than not.

my favorite crowd shot ever was (can't remember where i saw it) of philly fans leaving the stadium after the nfc championship loss in 2004. one fan was yelling so hard he was bent over. "WHY DO YOU BREAK MY HEART EVERY FUCKING YEAR??? WHYYYYY??"

I live for those moments. My one friend had a McNabb away jersey which he used to whipe his ass with after they lost to the Pathers two years ago. Fucking hysterical.

according to elias sports bureau, the next five games for the new england patriots is the toughest 5 game stretch in NFL history based on the away games and the records of the teams last season.

looks like the pats won't enjoy homefield advantage throughout the playoffs, and possibly a first-round bye. i think barring injury the colts are a lock to be the #1 seed, so it's probably gonna be pittsburgh and NE fighting for #2. that is unless some other team surprises us (*cough* billsjagschiefs)

kinda silly to make statements like that. colts beat a team with out a qb, steelers beat a superyoung team. plus three of those teams didn't show much in week one. its too hard to make predictions in week 1-7

hey e dub
Roethlisberger could start
Ben Roethlisberger practiced yesterday and he should be able to start tomorrow's game against the Texans.
Roethlisberger, who has a bone bruise on his left knee, remains questionable on the team's injury report. Roethlisberger and Steelers coach Bill Cowher did not speak with reporters yesterday, but Cowher relayed through the team's media relations department that Roethlisberger's status against the Texans will be a "game-time decision."
Roethlisberger's knee was injured in the Steelers' season-opening victory against Tennessee last week. He had been probable until Thursday, when he was downgraded to questionable.
If Roethlisberger cannot play, backup Tommy Maddox will run the team. Maddox started for the Steelers for most of the 2002 and '03 seasons. Roethlisberger listed as questionable.
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05260/573271.stm
also
"Obviously, Tommy can handle this team," Roethlisberger told The Tribune-Review on Thursday, "but I'm going to make sure that I'm out there."
