I have lied to you all.
I am 5'8 and 3/4 and I weigh 265.
I am not proud of that at all, my whole life I have been overweight but lately I am getting to out of shape. I am pretty athletic I play basketball all the time and I noticed that I am getting fatigued faster. I want to lose weight I always have. I lack the disclipline and I end up giving in. My family is not fat so they don't buy any diet foods or anything. I don't eat sweets or anything like that I gain weight from eating large portions of food. I want to lose 80 pounds by the start of 2006. I plan on doing this by eating one peanut butter sandwich a day along with one glass of milk. The bread we use if wheat and has no sugars or anything so that is healthy. I hope this will work. I am not doing this because of necromancer or anything I am doing it because I want to be more healthy and maybe even get laid this year :D

diets are temporary. you have to make a permanent lifestyle change to keep weight off. if you dont have the discipline to stick to a normal balanced diet you certainly wont be able to go concentration camp. besides it being, you know, grossly unhealthy.

I admire your passion, but that's a really unhealthy way to go. If you're getting too fatigued playing basketball now, just wait and see how tired you'll get with only a sandwhich in your belly. Just keep playing backetball, eat smaller meals, and eat healthier. I know it's boring, but it's really the best way to go.

Ricecakes are evil, they grossly inflate your blood glucose levels, leading to blood sugar peaks and troughs, making you even more hungry.
Seriously, i get annoyed when people don't understand that all they have to do is eat normally. Why are people intent on following fad diets which are bound to fail. Eat fruit, vegetables, white meat, fish, complex carbohydrates (i.e not white bread/rice/pasta but wholegrain varieties), nuts, seeds etc. It really isn't that difficult.

You will either fail to stick to this diet after a few days and cave in, or you will make yourself very, very sick from malnutrition... but no one would make it to the malnutrition point cuz you'll cave in first.
Eat smarter. Exercise more.
I know thats what I have to do to get back in shape... I used to hit the gym at least three times a week and eat fast food less than once a month. But after falling off the bandwagon a year or so ago, I don't exercise at all and eat too much fast food now... I know what I have to do but it's not easy to change. And it is a lifestyle change. Not a diet or a fad... you have to want to change yourself by changing your life.
Also, set realistic goals. 80 pounds in 4 months... that ain't gonna happen. If you're serious about it, you should tell your parents you want to visit a health doctor or dietitian that can set you up with a reasonable regiment and goals.
If you set your goals impossibly high, you will fail to meet them. If you fail to meet your goals, you'll get discouraged and quit.
It's not easy. If it was, no one would be fat.

You know if you starve yourself your body eats your muscles before your fat, so you'll be fat and weak if you do that. Never starve yourself, like some people said just exercise and eat better.

trust me, starving yourself is not the way to do it. i was lifting weights all last summer, and gradually lifting 20 lbs became harder and harder. you know why? because i was eating nothing but one or two bowls of cereal a day. it saps your energy. not only that, but you'll look and feel like shit. just do like others have said: eat less, eat healthier, and exercise. also quit drinking soda if you do now.

Hey Fatass we shold do it together i lost 120lbs over two years after high school i was actully 380 in 1998 i wrestled and all just eating what i wanted but it took time and i changed my diet and all got down to 260 in 2000 till recently i wemt up to 300 again i need to lose 20-30 lbs my blood suger is great but my cardo is weak

I am going to make sure I stick to this because I always fucking fail and give in to temptation. The reason I posted here was for motivation. I do not want to fail and then hear it from you guys. Tommarow will be a big test at lunch when all my friends are eating, I will be really hungry. I am going to do this because if I don't now I never will. I do not want to die at 50 years old.

I have the same problem with overeating meals....I eat way too quickly, so I don't get full. the only reason I'm not overweight is because of high metabolism and my scrawny limbs. Eat like 5-6 small frequent meals a day, keep playing basketball, and you'll be okay. Avoid french fries and salty foods. That's another weakness of mine...I use waaaaay too much table salt on my food.

I read the other day that holding your fork or spoon with whatever hand you don't usually eat with helps. It causes you to eat slower, hence making you full faster. Sounds like it could work.
i read about the peanut butter thing in men's health magazine but they suggested using it in, like, real food. like softening it up and putting pepper flakes in it and putting into a chicken wrap to make a nice thai meal.

if you don't think you can stick to a diet, i suggest you join a health club/gym. it's a very good motivater and once you start it going for a few weeks, you'll never stop coming. ive been with my gym since high school and ive been in great shape since standing at 6'2 180 now. please dont go with the peanut butter diet ...just eat less meaty foods and more fruits and veggies. gl to you fatass, dont give up.
Really, if you want to lose weight, dont starve yourself, and dont eat organic shit either. Doing those things will make you break your diet in less than a month.
Just dont eat so much. Dont have seconds when eating dinner or eat huge ass portions. Stay away from fast food too. Instead of eating shit like Doritos or whatever inbetween meals, eat some fruit. Oh and in your diet plan you said you want to drink milk for a meal, milks fattening. Try juice, like orange, or any of that mixed tropical shit they sell.
For excercise, if you keep playing ball a few times a week, that should be enough.

not only do they eat a shitload they eat it fast as hell. i have one fat friend, we went our for lunch and got the same thing and he was done with his meal when i was barely half way through. always eat your meals slower and you'll be more full after therefor you won't feel the need for seconds.

same, brunch and dinner? not that i have anything against breakfast, i just never have the time to eat it. i get back from the gym at 11 and on weekends i wake up at around noon.
he said his family are skinny, and dont buy diet things. so one would only assume he meant whole milk.
edit:: i only eat lunch and dinner usually. I wake up at 1 oclock on weekdays and leave for work a half hour later. Dont have time to eat in that half hour period, so I just eat lunch at work (around 530) and then eat a second meal around 1 or so.
on weekends i dont wake up until around 3 or 4pm so same schedule pretty much applies.

I find that drinking the flavored water is good. No calories, and it taste pretty good. I think it's called Aquacal or something. Yeah, eat Apples, bananas, ect for snacks.

Losing weight easily can be achieved by cutting just a few things out of your diet.
I used to drink several sodas and coffees a day until I wisened up and cut the caffeine out. I immediately lost a good 15 pounds and felt more energetic. I don't drink soda anymore (just ginger ale, and not too much) and will only drink a small cup of joe in the morning if I'm severely tired (and I haven't had a coffee in awhile, either).
i hope you're doing this because you want to, and not just because necromancer is a total asshole
makes me feel motivated to.... maybe later.

I have to agree with everyone on the peanut butter plan, Curtis. It simply will not work.
Once you have body fat, it doesn't dissappear through starvation, it is burned off through excersize. With your plan, the very best thing that can possibly happen is you won't gain any weight. The most likely thing that will happen is that you will lose all of your energy (thus, won't be able to play basketball), look and feel terribly ill, and still be as big as you were when you started.
If you're so against joining the gym, just walk. Walk as much as you can.

on top of dieting and regular exercise obviously, the key to losing weight is hating yourself. if you look in the mirror and don't want to stab the fat fuck looking back at you then you're not very motivated and you will probably not succeed. and i don't think you hate yourself curtis, which is a shame, because you should, and not just because of the fatness.

One simple to loose weight from what I've heard is to drink only water, and occasionally juice. Don’t drink anything with caffeine, alcohol, or additional sugar. And eat more fish and nuts instead of red meat. Most importantly, cut out junk food, so no desserts or chips.

The only two diet sodas I like are coke with splenda and diet dr. pepper. I also think that Diet Dr. Pepper is the only diet soda better than the regular, but that's just me.

curtis: it really isn't that hard. i feel like ive posted this maybe 5 or so times, and i expounded on it to matt today via im but i've lost 50 pounds since...may or so. the biggest catalyst for me was to realize that i really dont care about or enjoy unhealthy food enough to be fat over it. what i mean to say is that, when i gave up pop (still drink diet once in a while), fast food, whatever it wasn't even a big deal. realize that these things don't give you as much pleasure at all as you think they do. also, people will tell you to cut out fatty foods. fuck this pb and bread shit. cutting out fatty foods isn't a huge deal. the idea is to lay off junk food and just stick to meals. meals are more satisfying anyway...you may be one of those meal-eating fatties. maybe your mom's a little portugese lady who insists on feeding you a ton of unhealthy food. then i don't know what to say except cut down portions slightly.
it's about cutting down on portions for a low enough time that your stomache shrinks enough that you don't notice the smaller portions and instead notice the larger ones.
water substitutes for snacks a lot for me too. a lot of the time, thirst is mistaken for hunger. i started drinking 3 or so 500ml bottles of water a day. i'm up to about 6 now. you feel tons healthier, and have much more energy to rock some jams on the b-ball court or what have you.
you also have to awaken the lumbering dinosaur that is your metabolism slowly. eat breakfast, as that increases your metabolism for the day. this is pathetic but what got me started was just walking 20-30 minutes on my route home instead of taking a street car. if you have a regular route during the year, walk a portion of it briskly. i think you need about half an hour a day of exercize so this sort of stabilizes your weight. i've since moved to biking and try to bike 2-3 hours a day if i'm not walking. i've never really been a runner but after getting my cardiovascular system up to it i'm going to progress to running. i'm going to hit up the gym in a while, but before i lost weight i started lifting weights and noticed some muscle gain, and i really think in terms of defatification, losing the fat then putting on the muscle is a better policy.
as a motivator, it feels great to not be fat anymore. it feels better than you think it will. i remember that when i was in your position-10pounds reading words like this just bothered me more than anything. i felt like i would have to make big sacrifices and feel terrible just to lose weight. you really don't. i feel great almost all the time. i don't miss the unhealthy food at all. i didn't want to be a calorie counter or whatever the fuck but now i just can't help looking at nutritional information on foods. it just sort of came about. it's a reflex now and if you start getting on the weight-loss train you'll start to notice yourself paying more attention. it isn't about whoring out and keeping a calorie diary.
maybe i'm just lucky...maybe it's hormones or something that facillitated my weight loss. i really don't know. maybe just generally increased healthiness and more exercize spiraling out of control. i just know i haven't felt this great about my appearance since i was 4 years old wearing a jean jacket that made me look like james dean
i realize this is probably the worst post on weight loss ever and am eagerly awaiting ryan irvine's debunk.

pps: to diet soda crusader on page 2: i switched to diet sodas in the start, along with water. mostly off the diet soda now, but it's a good way to drop 250 calories from every meal. my biggest pet peeve now is when people standup comedy it up and go "don't you find it funny when fat people order a hamburger and large fries and then add a diet soda? dudes that is HILARIOUS!". regardless of the fact that you're fat and orderring extremely fatty food, knocking 250-400 calories off of your meal like that is a GOOD thing. "hes fat so he might as well just GO THE DISTANCE AM I RITE". if fatty mcgee wants to take that tiny step to cut back on the obesity epidemic, even if it's not really going to help him much in the long run, then that is a good thing.
also, i had my nutritionist who i haven't seen in months now tell me aspartame is the most natural artificial sweetener. i think splenda is pretty sketchy but whatever

Sam's post is one of the best posts I have ever read on here and he is totally correct. Its as simple as that. I used to be fat, all I did was start walking and get rid of the junk food. And lots of water. Thats all, theres no trick to it. You just need to be motivated, like everytime someone offers you a slice of pizza, think of a nice pair of tits and ask yourself what you would prefer to have in your hands.
And its so much easier then you think it is, its only hard for the first week or so. Your stomach will shrink and you wont want to eat as much, plus if you are excercising you just dont feel like putting junk like a Big Mac into your body, you actually crave something nutricious. You'll even start to like the excercise.
But, Curtis (on the assumption you are still alive), if you are soldiering on with the peanut butter sandwich diet, why not switch to a honey sandwich diet, that way you get some energy without the fat. Elvis didnt get very far on the peanut butter sandwich diet.

im not dead! I have lost 8 pounds as of today which is fine by me. Monday will be a month. 8 * 12 = 96. So hopefully I can stick with this. i have cheated a bit like I ate two slices of cheese pizza when I was at my friends. well, not so much an afterthought as you just happened to find it on the street after a much needed bottle of soy sauce.
One time at my old job, someone payed me 4 bucks to down a 2 oz cup of melted butter. Taste a lot worste than it sounds. I had a bad taste in my mouth and my stomache for a couple hours.
We also had a "wall of flame" consisting of over 40 hot sauces. We used to find the hottest sauces and mix them with crushed red pepper. A few combinations made it so my mouth was in a state of pain for 15 minutes. I'm not a pussy when it comes to hot sauce either.

People aren't fat cos they eat loads, it's because of WHAT they eat.
If you eat the same amount as you do but with healthy food, you'll lose about 70lbs by the end of September.
Eat fruit, vegetables, white meat, fish, wholegrain foods and fibre, complex carbohydrates.
Stay away from White Bread, excess butter, snacking, salt and any food additives.
I know this has probably been said before, but I don't care...

all you have to do to lose weight is cut one crap junk food that you each too much out of your diet. well, more, if you eat loads. when i wanted to lose a bit of weight, i just quit chocolate, and snack type foods...i had things like pasta instead of pizza for dinner, had sandwiches, quit chips. you just gotta find something that tastes good that you can have instead of the crap food that's bad for you. i lost 15 pounds in 6 weeks, which is all i wanted/needed, so it was good for me. and i didnt lose any weight until the fourth of those six weeks. plus, i still ate loads of bad food, and did no exercise...
oh, and be patient. if you did stick to a diet, then it should kick in eventually, but dont expect an immediate results...

I am not an expert by any means, but I have something that might help, or maybe it just works for me, I gues I'll find out. If you are ever in a convience store, and there is some candy or soda or shit like that, think before you buy it. Just think about what exaclty is gonna be so great about it. You are gonna eat a candy bar, and it is gonna tatse good, but after that it just starts to make you unhealthy. Before you get a soda, think why not have water? It tastes fine, granted not as good as soda, but again limited enjoyment, and atleast the water is good for you. Then find several meals you really like that are healthy, and anytime you want a pizza, just think limited enjoyment, and eat the healthy food you like. But make sure not to starve yourself, when ever you are hungry eat the healthy meal.
Also, make sure to get a lot of excersize. Find some sort of excersize you like, and do it. You apparently play basketball, play it for an hour each day. Then make sure to do a lot of push-ups, sit-ups, etc. But, remember, before having the junk food think about how limited the enjoyment will be, and don't eat it. That is how I have learned to dodge junk food, and it has really worked for me. It might not work for other, but just try it, curlyfries.

One thing you should never do is starve yourself. One, if you starve yourself of something you like, you will be more likely to pig out on it when you get some. Instead of eating a bag of chips in one sitting, try to strech it out to two days. Instead of eating a whole Hershey bar, eat about a quarter of it, and save the rest for later. It is all about moderation. This is what your body does. It consumes exactly what it needs, then stores the rest in your fatty tissue. If you eat in moderation, your body can consume what you have put in it.
Second, if you starve yourself, your body will only consume muscle. You will end up sick and weak. I don't know about you, but I would rather be healthy and chunky than skinny and nauseous all the time.

Curtis, if you want to, you could try something like sugar free koolaid or like crystal light lemonade or something. The lemonade and the sugar free kool-aid is 5 calories per 8 fl oz, so it is better for you than a 200 calorie 20 oz coke.

I've been on a diet for a while. But I've been cheating a little bit since around the time school started a few days ago. Staying away from fried foods and stuff.
Ben and Jerry's Low Fat Frozen Yogurt is just as good as the normal ice cream. I just wish they had more flavors for the Frozen Yogurt...
I did lose what appeared to be 14 pounds one day when I weighed myself on a new scale we got. Ever since then it's been the same give or take 1 or 2. At least I'm maintaining it. I just have to start exercising again once I get into the groove of this shitty ass school year.

I put on a few pounds over the summer. So I started a diet on Monday. For a morning snack I eat a few baby carrots (like 10-12) with water at 10:10 AM. For lunch I eat a apple with water at 1:00 PM. I eat a bowl of Special K with 1% milk at 5:00 PM. Then I finish with a salad from a fast-food place at around 10:00 PM with water or Diet Mt. Dew. I use fat-free Ranch dressing. I've already lost some weight...I think, I forgot to weigh myself on Monday. So I just assume my weight stayed the same two weeks ago when I found out about the extra pounds.
I haven't excercised, but I plan to ride my bike around on the week-ends. Ever since Arrested Development, I love riding my bike in a suit.
Also, I'm thinking about trying some flavored water, the kind with no calories or sodium. Any thoughts on them?

I've been on the Abs Diet since February. A lost a lot of weight in the summer by going to the gym twice a week. But I gained a few pounds back in August. Now, with being outdoors several hours a day (for marching band), my weight has since evened out to a decent 170. That doesn't sound like a lot of weight, but my waist has gone down nearly 4 sizes.

Dunno if this thread can be salvaged into a real health/diet discussion, but I'll share my results.
I started on the "South Beach" diet last Monday. It's low carb like Atkins, but unlike Atkins they don't tell you to each all the bacon, red-meat, fat you want. South Beach encourages healthier meats and veggies, and moderate portions, no stuffing yourself but at the same time, I've rarely been hungry cuz I still eat, just different stuff. Plus I drink a shitload of water, which helps with any mental subconscious "I need to eat" urges, and keeps you kinda full.
First week was a bit rough as my body had to convert from burning carbs to burning fat... it left me with very little energy but I managed to get in two 15 minute walks everyday. I'm feeling better energy-wise now, and plan on increasing my cardio. 10 minutes running on a treadmill followed by 20 minutes on an exercise bike, 3 times a week is my plan.
Worst parts so far: Complete lack of alcohol for another week (although I might break this rule on my birthday), and no beer... ever. Lack of energy (hopefully I'm past that). Digestive issues... yea... I switch between the two polar opposits on this one, FUN! But that should pass too...
I weighed in at 233.5 at the start, and last night I weighed in at 228.5 (which is cool, cuz at night you weigh more than in the morning). And I maybe looking into it too much, but I can almost see & feel the difference, particularly in my face. My "neck fat" which always bothered me seems to have slimmed a bit, in look & feel.
My immediate goal, before I even think of getting off the diet, is to get to 190. After that, I'll consider dropping the diet but I plan on eating smart and working out for life. The one thing I'll always keep from this diet is THINKING about what I'm EATING. I'd never think about it before, I'd just eat...
So, that rambled for a bit. In summary. 5 pounds down 38.5 to go!

Congrats, you just ate 5x your daily allowance of sugar. You're trying to burn fat right? Well if you put carbs and sugars into your body, your body says "Ooooh, sugar and carbs, thats much easier to break down than fats, so I'll eat the sugar and carbs, and I'll store these fats in my boobs for another day"
Only the "other day" never comes, because it's always easier for your body to consume sugars and carbs than it is to break down fats. And if your eating random "healthy" low-fat things, it will just burn the sugar and carbs and store the fat, just like always.
Sure, eating healthier foods like you mentioned is healthier than McDonalds, but you will not lose wieght like that with diet alone. Either get wise, cuz me and 100 people have told you 100 times that your diet is the stupidest thing on earth, or get your ass on a treadmill.

well what's your junk food situation like? are you eating any at all? it sounds like you're withholding some information about that. i mean, at your (our, i guess) age, theres really no reason that you should be cutting out actual meals. cutting out junk food and just exercizing should do the trick. the basketball is good. unless you're going for the skinniest dude of all time record, cutting out CONDIMENTS really isn't necessary. cut back in other respects, and just exercize. walk. seriously. work a half hour walk into your usual commute. it works wonders. you'll get more time to listen to foo fighters or whatever and think

Five pounds is an awesome start! My friend started his diet and exercise kick two or three months ago, and now he's lost 47 pounds. :) I forget what his target it, but he doesn't have much further to go.
This child used to inhale food. He was able to eat more than anyone else I know, and didn't get overweight until this year. I'd have to hide things when he would come over sometimes, because he could finish bags of chips, cake, anything. So, if he was able to discipline himself like this, anyone can. :D

Walking doesn't do shit. You have to do actual excercise to stay HEALTHY. Not just get skinny, but to stay healthy and keep your cardio-vascular system in check. Walking is for old people and ladies. I dont eat junk food and never have. my problem is that I eat big portions of meals. Im a meat and potatoes guy so that is how I got fat. This is kind of personal but when I was little my mom would make me eat everything on my plate even when I was full so that started my weight gain. I didnt become fat until about 8 though.

Oh also I've just about cut caffeine out as a daily requirement. No more coffee at work in the mornings, but I still usually have a Diet Coke (with Splenda, its better for you) when I get home from work. I hope to completely cut my dependency on caffeine though.

You only burn so many calories from walking. You gain them back in like 2 seconds. I main thing is, is to join a gym or do something more active than walking.
in 2003 i stopped drinking soda and walked an hour and a half every day. lost 20 lbs. it's still gone.
however when i came to america you can't really walk anywhere which kind of makes things difficult. plus i had been living in england for a month which means i was eating shitty food all the time and not getting any physical activity at all. gained over 5lbs.
i joined a gym and the results have been very good. i think i'm in better shape than i've ever been. i have pecs now! i've never had pecs! when i started i found i barely had any energy, in fact as weeks went on i found myself getting weaker. then i started doing a lot more cardio and my strength went straight up. 10 minutes of running, 7 of cycling, another 20 of some running apparatus. i do this every other day - i'm thinking of going in more often just for cardio. anyway, i'm back at 165lbs where i'm happy.
and you'll never get me to stop my intake of caffiene. never!

seriously though, losing your appetites is no good thing, if you dont want to eat you'll lose energy, strength and concentration, you'll be thinner, but the cost is far too great.
Do not listen to anything Godfather says. Walking is the best thing that you can do. I started doing a one hour walk every night and the weight just melted away, I didnt even change my diet radically, just no mcdonalds or coke. Walking is not only good for weightloss, it is great for your overall health, and even mental well being. It even makes you look better as you start walking quickly, head high everywhere. I cant stress the values of walking enough. And Im not talking a stroll here, Im talking one hour (or start off with half) of fast walking, enough to get your heart rate up. And its sooo easy. After one week it starts getting so much easier and you end up actually wanting to extend your walk. Trust me, it will work. I will personally guarentee you that if you start doing a one hour walk every night, in one month you will have lost weight and feel a million times better.
And dont do the smoking, I tried that that and actually put on weight because whenever I ran out of smokes or could not have one, I replaced the craving with food and am left with an expensive addiction.

Reverse breakfast and dinner and you'll lose weight (although not a healthy way to go). You are doing yourself no favors by not eating at breakfast and lunch. When you dont eat breakfast, your body thinks you're starving and it stops burning fat and actually stores it, your metabolism slows right down to a crawl. Then you make it worse by skipping lunch. Then by the time you have dinnner your metabolism has basically stopped, and everything you eat then goes straight into fat and since you are going to bed then, it isnt burned off.
The secret to weightloss is getting your metabolism going - big breakfast, small lunch and tiny dinner. Add a walk or some other excercise and you will lose it for sure. The way you are going you will either lose nothing, gain weight or if you do lose it you will not physically be able to maintain eating that way and as soon as you eat normally, it'll all come back.
As Pennycandy said, go back through the thread and read the serious posts and I guarentee it will work.

I never said walking wasn't bad for you. I just implied it only does so much for you. There's a difference. I smoke and drink yet still take the time to excercise and and stay active on a daily basis, not counting out the courseload I got at university. I'm not a stick. I got an average frame. But I got muscles. didnt come from walking. It came from doing something on a consistent basis that helped me reach a great fitness peak.
