View Full Version : King of the Hill Season 10 Thread

I'll post to this thread on occasion with any info I turn up about the tenth (and probably final) season of King of the Hill. Most of this is also available at the TV Tome Guide (http://www.tvtome.com/KingoftheHill/season10.html) (I co-edit the KotH guide, and, breaking with TVTome tradition, I make sure to have mostly accurate information about upcoming episodes).

Season 10 will be a mix of episodes produced for and not aired in the truncated season 9 (plus one season 8 holdover), and somewhere between 11 and 13 episodes from a new season 10 cycle. Here are some of the episodes we will be getting:

Bystand Me - Peggy joins the newspaper as "household hints" columnist, except that she doesn't know any tips on housework, so she gets Minh to ask her mother-in-law Laoma for tips she can use, in exchange for Peggy giving Minh the answer to the newspaper crossword puzzles. I read this script and it's really good, though disappointingly Laoma doesn't actually appear in it.

Harlottown - Hank teams up with an "adult film" actress (voiced by Shannon Elizabeth) for some reason.

Hank Fixes Everything - Buck hires the guys from "American Chopper."

Church Hopping - Andre 3000 and Big Boi voice two preachers at an evangelical mega-church.

Business is Picking Up - Johnny Knoxville voices a professional pooper-scooper who is so cool that Bobby (of course) wants to follow in his footsteps.

Bill's House - Bill helps out at a halfway house for alcoholics and invites the drunks to live at his house.

Hank's Bully - Hank finds himself being bullied by a young boy who follows him around and taunts him.

The Texas Panhandler - Bobby and Joseph decide to make money by becoming street-corner panhandlers.

Edu-Macating Lucky - Peggy tutors Lucky to get his GED.

And here are episode titles that are available (because of the copyright database) but for which no description yet exists:

"Orange You Sad I Did Say Banana?"
"Hank's On Board" - probably involves a boat in some way
"Portrait of the Artist as a Young Clown"
"You Gotta Believe (In Moderation)"
"The Year of Washing Dangerously"

If Fox actually airs it, it should be a good final season, with more guest stars and more varied plots than the few episodes they showed this past season.

Did they officialy announce this to be the last season?

It hasn't been officially announced yet but judging by Fox's scheduling of season 9 it looks likely to be the last season. Mike Judge himself has actually said in numerous interviews that he doesn't think the show will be around for much longer. When Fox gets their Fall schedule up on their website it should say on there whether it's the last season.

It has not been officially announced as the final season and there's still a possibility that Fox might order some more episodes, but it's generally expected that this will be the last season, and I think it's likely.

Looks like it'll be good.

Well Fox doesn't say anything in their fall lineup page.... so who knows.

Let's hope Season 10 is a better turn-out than Season 9. After a noticable upturn in Season 8, they began making a lot of the same mistakes as Season 5-7, which in this case could be attributed to the shorter number of episodes shown this year.

This past season, we saw:

- Dale as an annoying blind patriot/Hank being double-crossed by the DMV :irked:
- the Hills going to Montana (ugh!)
- less Luanne AGAIN! (Grr! )
- the introduction Lucky as a regular player
- Bobby demonstrating his lack of athletic capabilies AGAIN! :uhh:
- a worthless attempt to open a casino
- Peggy UNOFFICALLY joining the Bystander
- a less interesting episode where Nancy is side-stepped at her job

Surely, they can do better than this.

- Peggy UNOFFICALLY joining the Bystander
That episode was supposed to be aired after Bystand Me, where she officially joins that staff. So, no, your complaint is not valid. Also, lay off the Peggy bitching a bit. You don't want to become the Silverlimit of I&S Studios.

Sounds good. The only thing I don't really like is the milestone 200th episode being about Lucky. Granted, I've only seen one episode with that character (the one where Luanne falls for him, I believe...Care-takin' Care of Business?), but I didn't think much of him. He's ugly to look at and he fits the "stereotypical redneck" cliche like a glove, something KOTH effectively strayed from for nine seasons.

One more episode title from the copyright database:

Episode # 10ABE01 - "24 Hour Propane People"

Except for the fact that it has something to do with Hank's job, that title could be anything, so I won't attempt to guess what it's about.

Also, the episode "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Clown" will feature Paul Tompkins (from "Mr. Show") as a character named Professor Twilley. But I don't know what the episode itself is about.

Hmmm....uh, lemme guess, Buck Strickland goes in over his head, and keeps Strickland Propane open for 24 hours, which affects Hank in an excruciating way.

Sounds exciting. :-/

Hey, I used that before in my King of the Hill fanguide, Hill & Son... then again I'm sure this will be much better.

Also, I always thought that production codes couldn't have more than six numbers/letters.

Excuse me for reviving this thread, but I did so out of curiosity...

If there's that nagging hint that the upcoming Season 10 may be the end for King of the Hill, do you think the writers may establish a series of "revelation" episodes? As in:

-Will Hank ever become manager of Strickland Propane?
-Will Peggy ever win another substitute teacher award?
-Will Bobby, Connie, and Joseph ever graduate to high school?
-Will Luanne ever be reunited with her parents?
-Will Bill ever get remarried?
-Will Cotton ever get relief from his increasing lonliness?
-Will Dale ever find out about John Redcorn and Nancy?

Given that so many fans have an attachment to this show, I for one would hate for the show to end UNfinished.

(only 100 posts more before I join the Silver Stars Krew!!!)

Most of the season 10 episodes were actually produced for season 9 and not aired; only a few episodes (somewhere between six and thirteen) were actually produced for season 10, and the producers made a deliberate decision not to close out the show because they're still fighting to do another season. So the answer is no, I wouldn't expect any of the big questions to be resolved.

Out of passing observation, I saw the synopses (http://www.tv.com/king-of-the-hill/show/250/episode_guide.html&season=10) for some of the upcoming episodes.

-"Bill's House" is currently slated to air on November 6. The main plot sounds okay, but the sub-plot sounds doubtful for a number of reasons.

-"Orange You Sad I Did Say Banana?" sounded a LOT like a Dale episode at first. It's supposed to be another "racist" episode, this time concentrating on Kahn. They haven't done much with the Soupinousinphones lately, so this sounds very interesting.

-"Church Hopping" sounds like it's going to have a similar theme to The Simpsons' "She of Little Faith", where probably Hank will battle the commercialization of church.

-"24 Hour Propane People" is somewhat predictable from the title alone: Buck Strickland gets a wacky idea to have Strickland Propane open for 24 hours, and it costs all his employees, mostly Hank dearly.

-"The Texas Panhandler" sounds like another of many where Bobby does something lazy and gets in trouble for not listening to Hank.

-"Edu-macting Lucky" finally picks up on the budding relationship between Luanne and Lucky. This could go both ways: either Luanne can enter a new stage in her life, or the writers will shy away from yet another new concept.

The only new piece of news on the series finale is that it was written by Jim Dauterive (http://www.tv.com/jim-dauterive/person/54100/appearances.html). He's been writing for the show since season 1 and came up with a number of the secondary characters, so it's sort of the next best thing to Judge and Daniels writing the finale themselves.

Will Dale ever find out about John Redcorn and Nancy?

I've speculated THAT revelation for years, if it happens it'll probably be in the series finale.

I have high hopes for KOTH's Season 10, especially if it's the last season of the show. The show's been on a decline over the last few years (I agree with Neonlimit that #9 is the only "truly bad season", but 6-8 weren't great either), and there's no better time to rebound than now.

This isn't real news, but more like a heads up.

According to TVGuide.com, King of the Hill WILL return next week with the episode, Bill's House (originally scheduled for April 17). Unfortunately, the show MAY be pre-empted the following week by none other than the Football Postgame Show. :( Also, according to EpGuides.com (www.epguides.com/kingofthehill), Harlottown should be airing November 20.

Already judging from the one-week delay in the season premiere, it looks like Season 10 is not going to be any better for Arlen than was Season 9. :-/

According to the FOX website (http://www.fox.com/kingofthehill/index.htm), the next new episode will be airing January 29th (more than a month from now :-/). The synopsis sounds like the one for "You Gotta Believe (In Moderation)":

Hank invites a Harlem-Globetrotter-type softball team to compete against his own team of misfits, to raise money to save the Arlen High baseball program.

1) Only the West Coast will get to see the February 26 repeat or "Orange You Sad..." The rest of us gets NASCAR racing.

2) New episodes will not resume until March 19 (http://www.fox.com/kingofthehill/), which by then the 9 remaining episodes should air uninterrupted thru May 14.

Question about the 200th episode:

If it's supposedly the 200th episode produced, why, in both the productional order and the imminent airdate, is it 201st in line?

Is Lucky proposing to Luanne?

arlen_texas

Is Lucky proposing to Luanne?

Yeah, that's the plot of the season finale. It leads into a part 2 episode which was going to be the series finale if the show was cancelled, but will instead be the season 11 opener.

I myself am still devoutly anti-Lucky and am tired of him dominating every scene he's in (with Bobby, Luanne, and even Hank playing straight man to his wacky redneck antics), but c'est la vie. I have no idea if they plan to have him and Luanne as a married couple in season 11, though I think it's depressingly possible.

I'd hate for them NOT to get married after taking the subject so far. That'd be the biggest rip-off since The Simpsons' My Big Fat Geek Wedding. (And the promo somehow clinches what the result will be.)

If it's any consolation to anti-Lucky fans, all I'm guessing at this point is that Luanne's pregnancy will just be a humbug, after she catches on to Peggy's plan in advance.

So what's going to happen to what would have been the series finale? Are they going to retool it so it won't be as final and air it in the fall?

It wasn't a fully complete ending for the series though, as they were pressing their luck that there would be a Season 11. Smart move.

The promos look nice, but I definitely don't like Lucky either. It's funny, looking at the 200th episode promo, I realize that every one of those characters is interesting and adds to the show...except Lucky.

Oh well. At least it's a two-parter--those have ALWAYS been good for KotH.
