anyone seen this?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0013257/
I caught a showing of it in the Brooklyn this week with a live narrator and a live piano accompanying the film and I was floored. If you can tolerate silent film, this is easily one of the most provocative pieces I have seen in a while that still holds up today (the philosophical/sociological point, not the actual film). Pretty morbid for 1922.

Agreed. I have usually enjoyed silent movies, though it's hard to find them nowadays, and from what I can see this one looks to be promising. I'll keep an eye out for it the next time I'm in Blockbuster...
criterion has a great version of it. highly recommended.

There are two versions on the disc. The original with the original classical music and the 60's version with W.S. Burroughs doing the narration. The 60s version has a great jazz soundtrack... the only problem is that it sounds horrible with this movie. Doesn't fit at all. Which is a shame b/c it is a good piece of music. It would be great if you could rip Burroughs narration and play it on top of the original music.

Wow, even gil posted in this thread!
Did you watch it with the Burroughs narration, kevin? If not, then you really should. Only adds to the creepiness.

The problem with the Burroughs version is that it replaces the original score with upbeat jazz music... the music isn't bad, per say... but it doesn't fit the film and completely detracts from the mood... (even on LSD)...
I wish we could get the Burroughs' narration placed on top of the original music.
