View Full Version : The Simpsons Library of Wisdom
"Perennial today announced the launch of a new Simpsons book series. The Simpsons Library of Wisdom, which will be introduced in November 2004 with two inaugural volumes, THE BART BOOK and THE HOMER BOOK. With the publication of these books Perennial will have more than 5 million Simpsons books in print. "This is an incredible milestone -- reaching five million copies," says Susan Weinberg, Senior VP of HarperCollins. "The books embody all the wonderful qualities you've come to expect from the award-winning television show. The Simpson Library of Wisdom is another gem in this treasured publishing program." The books in this new series will explore the human condition and the meaning of life through the eyes of the show's characters much like Bart's Guide To Life."

I'm gonna pick it up looks good
Sure it sound's great but, 5 million copies? I mean c'mon this is a completely new book series too so I'm sure lots of people won't even know about it. I doubt they will sell all of the 5 million copies.
...But I might pick a copy up myself.

"Going to pick it up"? My campus bookstore has had these books for two weeks already. And I can tell you right now that they are good, but they're awfully small.
BTW, Perennial has five million copies of ALL their "Simpsons" books in print, not just these.
How could your campus bookstore have them for 2 weeks? They haven't even come out yet, that is until November.

I'unno, but I've read both of them cover to cover. Basically, each one is like a big, long episode bio for Bart and Homer, with facts and tidbits of trivia about them from various episodes and little side bios for characters that they usually interact with (like Skinner, Krabappel, Nelson, Martin, etc. for Bart; Moe, Burns, Smithers, Lenny, Carl, etc. for Homer). Good reads both.
Sounds awesome, but if it's going to be a series then are they going to make like each book for a whole bunch of characters since it doesn't look likely they'll make 2 books that are basically a bio.
Five millions... and certainly nothing for us, poor french people... :(

I had a quick look at the Homer book earlier this week, it looks pretty nice. The pages have the same high-quality, full-colour look as the Complete Guides, which is nice. I doubt I'll rush to buy them but I will at some stage.
Do Simpsons books ever go on sale? I know these wouldn't for a while yet, but since the DVDs and videos go to 2-for-1 at certain times of the year, I'm surprised I've never seen the Complete Guides reduced.

I will MAYBE buy the CBG Book along with the fourth complete guide, but I'm not interested at all in Ralph's. I think they're walking the wrong way with these books. There are lots of more important and interesting characters.
We could e-mail Jesse McCann (http://hometown.aol.com/jleon2001/myhomepage/index.html) and tell him we want the Marge and Lisa books to be the next ones, don't you think?

Bart's: School Cafeteria, Android's Dungeon, Noiseland Arcade, Bart's Bedroom.

I think you will find that Lisa is far more popular then CBG and Ralph, infact she is sometimes considered more popular then Bart or Homer because she is such a deeper character.
Anyway, I have the Homer and Bart books, I would much rather Lisa and Marge next then Ralph and CBG but I will still buy them.
Lisa's rooms: Lisa's bedroom, school library, classroom.
Marge's rooms: Kitchen, Marge's childhood bedroom, Patty and Selma's flat.
Anyway, these characters have a lot more content the CBG or Ralph.

No specific things on the border? I like how there was a slight difference on the border of the first two, they should do that again. Let me get this straight. They can be bothered to make a book about Disco Stu, but they can't be asked to make a book about Rev. Lovejoy?
I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

the reverend lovejoy book would be interesting. it could have a section on his love of trains and why god hates his trains :)

You're right, that is odd, especially since "Disco Stu doesn't advertise". ;)
But anyway, don't be too worried, I'm sure Lovejoy will be heavily mentioned in the faith one.

I also hope they make one for Prof. Frink, called Prof. Frink's book of Science.

I think that list could be a joke, just like they did in the Guide to Springfield, which had a list of "available" guides to other cities like Shelbyville, North Haverbrook or Little Pwagmattasquarmsettport.

I think they're very obviously jokes...most characters listed don't have enough info to dedicate an entire book to, there's no reason to give more than one book to a character and some of them would more or less have the same stuff in them.
Although I would like to see 'Mr. Burns' Guide to Manual Labour'.

When I saw that list, I immediately thought it was a joke, but when I looked closer, some of them (but not all) seem quite probable.

Why DOES God hate his trains?
Anyway, it still seems unfair, but maybe he'll get some decent treatment in the Ned Flanders book.
BTW, has anyone in the UK got the new Simpsons Comic? Lovejoy's in that several times! :D made my day!

Yeah. Besides, I think that's way too many titles to be revealed at once. I'm not sure, of course, but this even gives me the impression that the Lisa and Krusty ones may be the last Library of Wisdom books.

I'm probably looking beyond the point of the joke (if it really is a joke, like I think), but I wouldn't be surprised if the actual joke consisted in "announcing" so many titles at once and then not releasing any of them, leaving the people waiting for them.
For the moment I don't really think that's the case (I hope not). That was just a little tought I had.

It has been statisically proven using the finest measuring machines that the end of the world will come about at 3:45pm on 3rd October 2006 via a gigantic asteroid crashing on your front doorstep that will kill all life. At the same time, the Sun will grow and engulf the Earth.
Long enough?
I think there's still a few other books they could do with Library of Wisdom...or maybe this list of obvious fakes will become a running gag.
Or the joke about the list is that it's not a joke...

TO MY FELLOW NHC SAN DIEGO AREA COLLECTORS:
I saw both the Lisa and Krusty books at Borders in La Costa during the weekend (Krusty's is funny!)

can anyone who has the new books post an image of this list of upcoming titles? just so i can see for myself, and if anyone else wants to see.
Sorry for bumping.
I finally got these (it takes a while for them to come to Australia). I really enjoyed Lisa's. Krusty's however...it seemed like it was a bit lacking (for example, three whole pages dedicated to a story about Sideshows Mel, Bob, and Luke Perry). However, they are my two favourites out of all six books so far (shockingly, my least favourites are last years ones, The Ralph Book and CBG's Book of Pop Culture).
@I_Bent_My_Wookiee: the "upcoming titles" list is on the little flap of the dust jacket, and is just a list in small white font, there's really no use getting an image of it, it isn't really much to see.

Jesse McCann has updated the "Upcoming Projects" section of his website (http://hometown.aol.com/jleon2001/myhomepage/index.html) and, for the first time since the collection started, there aren't "Library Of Wisdom" books in it.
That only reinforces the "there-will-be-no-more-LOW-books" theory.
^I am pleased to inform you the "no-more-LOW" theory can be put to rest for now, since I emailed Jesse personally, to which he replied telling me the next two books will be The Moe Book and The Ned Book.

I'm hoping we won't have to wait another year. Looking forward to the Ned book. 8-)
He also added not to expect them soon.
I'd be looking at another October release like the other books in the series.
Also, the next book from Bongo/HarperCollins is a MASSIVE "How To Draw The Simpsons" book.

Hi everyone,
Jesse is correct, the Book of Moe and Ned Flander's Book of Faith will be out next year. HC may put the Moe book out ahead of Ned's or release them together, we're not sure which. As for the other books on the list, they are all possible, except Homer's Book of Fatherhood. That was a joke. Or was the thing I just typed a joke? Hmmm....
Anyway, we'll keep making 'em as long as people keep buying 'em.
And there WILL be a massive "How to draw" book called "The Simpsons Handbook - Tips From The Pros". It's on its way to the printer now and it's exceptionally cool. It will be on sale in May or June of next year.
We've also done a Simpsons poster book that will be on sale about the same time, and are working on a book of postcards.
I hope this doesn't come off like shameless promotion. I just saw that you were all curious about these books, so I thought I'd give you the straight dope. Let me know if you have any questions.

sorry if i'm nit-picking here, but 'Bart’s School Survival Guide' sounds like it's going to be a rehash of the book 'Bart Simpson's Guide to life'
Oh ye of little faith. Do you really think that Bart's Guide to Life included ALL the wisdom Bart has to impart?
Actually this one will be "written" by Lisa, but we know that nobody will by a book called "Lisa's Guide to Studying Hard and Getting Good Grades."
And there WILL be a massive "How to draw" book called "The Simpsons Handbook - Tips From The Pros". It's on its way to the printer now and it's exceptionally cool. It will be on sale in May or June of next year.
Fuck yes.
If this was the book that was mentioned on "Collecting Simpsons" (as a rumor) a few years back, I'll buy multiple copies for a few friends.

Hello fine sir. Glad to see people from Bongo still here.
Bill, I hate to sound too demanding, but I was hoping/wondering if there was a possibilty "The Simpsons Handbook" could be produced with a wirebound spine.
We've also done a Simpsons poster book that will be on sale about the same time, and are working on a book of postcards.

Bill, I have to ask... will the Lovejoys be in Ned Flander's Book of Faith? Yeah, it sounds like a stupid question, but I thought they'd be in the Lisa book, and I was wrong about that...

Why are they any more likely to be in the Lisa Book than any of the other books?
And I really hope they don't actually make any of the Homer/Bart books listed on the upcoming books...that would be incredibly pointless.

Great to see Bill here again! The new drawing book sounds great.
By the way, can anyone tell me what's this (http://www.amazon.com/Simpsons-Uncensored-Family-Album/dp/0061138304/sr=1-2/qid=1165163758/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/103-9227329-1849451?ie=UTF8&s=books)? Is it just the original Uncensored Family Album with a different cover, or does it have something new?

I've seen that in places. It's the same book as before, just a new cover. Homer has just been switched with Bart.

Amazon aren't always right though.
I do find it strange; the last six books have all come out around September of each year...unless the new episode guide is coming out and they're trying not to release them close together...
