5/5, although the Sub-Plot is far superior to the Main Plot.

5/5. Very, very underated.
Both plots are excellent. The ending is also pretty snuzzy.
"Three simple words: I am gay"
"I can't help but feel partly responsible"

My name is George Cauldron, and I love this show.
Yet another great episode. Bart's prank, although cruel, is a funny and interesting plot development. Edna's relationship with "Woodrow" is simply hilarious. Many inspired moments including Homer's incoherent mumbling postcard and the educational filmstrip on the importance of zinc among others. The subplot with Homer trying to curb his swearing habits has to be the funniest subplot in the entire show's run.

I'm not finished. I just got sentimental.
Bart The Lover. All the greatness of The Simpsons in one episode. From the yo-yo stuff right to the end, this just showcases how episodes should/used to be made.
Ah, the good ol' days....
Homer: "Three simple words - I am gay."
Marge: "Homer, for the last time, I'm not putting that!"
A very good episode, the subplot is equal to the mainplot. 5/5.

A true classic and a perfect way to develop Edna's character. This sets the example on how to do "Character falls in love with non-guest star character" episodes.

A brilliant episode, with two abolutely superb plots, and some great quotes ("Three Simple Words: I am Gay") - A+

A+, 10/10 or 5/5 - no matter how you rate episodes, this one gets a perfect score.
Amazing episode, perfect balance between comedy and emotion, as well as a pefect balance between the sub and main plots. I feel this episode has great characterization of Bart as well as Edna. Bart my seem not to care sometimes but under the rough interior he's a kid with a good heart as proven by this episode. Also the really the first time that the plight and loneliness of Edna Krabappel and really brought her character into the forefront of the series instead of just being "Bart's teacher". 5/5.

An absolutely brilliant, Often overlooked episode. The sub-plot is just as good as the plot and it has some brilliant lines and jokes 10/10.

This one developed Edna's and Bart's character very well. The yoyo plot at the beginning was hilarious, and the story gradually built on the Woodrow plot which was very well done. You had to feel very sorry for Edna, and the plot tied up well with the letter. Perfect balance of emotion and humour. Very touching episode, and it's another landmark episode in my opinion - A+!
I agree with, well, everybody. Great main plot, great subplot, a very funny episode all around. This Red Wing fan especially loves the use of Gordie Howe in this episode. Anyway, another 5/5.

An interesting comment by Raymond Chen in the capsule over at SNPP.com:
I just had trouble with Lisa and Marge's willingness to continue the ruse rather than force Bart to admit the truth.
I can see where he's coming from. After all, Bart's lies and deceit caused a lot of trouble and pain for Edna. But as Marge said, the truth would humiliate her (further) and make things much more awkward. If Bart had admitted the truth to Edna, the ending would have been a rushed "Bart admits and apologises, Edna is shocked but forgives him, everything goes back to normal" sequence.

Disagree in every way with this Raymond Chan fellow.
If Bart had just told the truth and apologized we wouldn't have had the family coming togther to write that letter, or the ending that never fails to give me a fuzzy feeling. Plus, I'd have felt horrible for Edna.

Just caught the episode.
It's a lovely look into Edna's life that really developed her as a character. The episode was well written, great jokes (especially writing the goodbye letter: An alligator ate my face! I may hold you to that, Marge. Three Words: I am gay), and my brother laughed through the entire commercial break over "Ernest Needs A Kidney'.
Its interesting watching old episodes like this. I haven't seen them in years, and I have a new-found appreciation for them. 5/5.

Maybe it's the beer talking, Marge, but you've got a butt that won't quit. They got those big chewy pretzels here..ghmgrfjefkdsjfefneh FIVE DOLLARS???!?!?! Get outta here...
Oh, how I love this episode. Contains one of the show's all-time greatest B-plots as well. An easy 5/5.
Pretty good, I enjoy this one. 4/5.

i think it's really a good episode,
it's not one of my favorite ones, but it's entertaining and like to watch it now and then.
The sub-lot with Homer is also pretty funny.

I absolutely love this episode. I agree with a lot of people though, I really prefer the B story to the A. There's some great quotes in it - "He used to watch Davey and Goliath, but the thought that the idea of a talking dog was blastphemous."

This is one of my favorites of season 3, but it seems like I always forget about it. I think stating why I would like it would just be rehasing what's been said, so I'll just leave it at this: 5/5

5/5. Good, especially the mixture between Bart's writing, Gordie Howe's looks and Mr Wilson. The ending with Howe's statistics had me laughing for th whole end credits.

I thought this was a great episode. Both plots were really well-developed and funny, and I loved the way Edna's character was explored more in depth. The episode showed Bart's soft side very well too. 5/5

Probably one of the Edna's main roles in the series thus as far as it really brought out her character for future seasons because we learned a lot about her in the episode. Bart's facial expression is great when he receives the photograph of her.

Love this episode.Such a great characterization (for both Edna and Bart-I wish to see them as friends more ofthen) and great jokes. This is the first episode that make me a true Edna fan.I felt teribble for her,at first I din't like how Bart wants to foolish her,but the ending was great and emotional. My only question is:Will Edna found out who was the real ''Woodrow''?
A+
This is your teacher!?I should start going to Parents' Night.

I felt teribble for her,
Yeah... me too, especially in the restaurant scene. I believe this episode holds a truth... about how cruell kids could be.
