The whole episode name wouldn't fit in the space! What do you think of this season 5 episode? Personally I think it is great. It is very very funny and has a nice story with it too, 9.5/10.

Grade: B+
Enjoyable, but not a classic. Most of the stories in acts 2 and 3 are funny enough (Burns as Howard Hughes, Bart's treehouse gambling, Homer working as a blackjack dealer, the chaos at home story without Marge, and of course Marge's gambling problem mixed with Maggie's little adventure). And the first act is memorable enough for Homer thinking he's a genius with glasses. Plus, given the topic, there's some nice gambling satire (it raises revenue, as stated by Skinner, but it's notorious for high crime as implied after the town meeting). But the main story, Marge becoming addicted to gambling while the family falls apart isn't particularly interesting (perhaps underdeveloped due to the multitude of stories), and is derivative of "Homer Alone" and "Marge in Chains" too. And though the episode attempted a sort of character study of Marge, there really isn't much in the way of character examination, other then (I guess) Marge having a fault. Still funny though.

I love this episode. I don't know, there is just something about it that I like. A great episode focused on Marge, unusual. Great plot showing that everyone has flaws, and some great humor make this episode one of my favorites to watch. 5/5

Probably 8/10
Not the best of season 5 and the Marge's plot as you said is undeveloped. But lots of funny gags and the always great Burns as Huges.

Not a brilliant ep, but pretty damn good all the same. 8/10.

A solid episode, but not anywhere near the best. A good satire of gambling, and some amusing jokes, but the plot didn't really seem to go anywhere. Homer with his glasses was a right hoot, as was Krusty's stage show, but aside from that, nothing to really write home about.

Very zany, and didn't work as well as it should. Humour was very mixed: while there was some really hiarious moments (Burns' constant laughing, Barney burping coins, Homer's glasses) there was also some awful stuff: Homer's constant (YOU have a gambling problem!!) and other overly stupid moments, and that god-awful rain man sequence that sticks out as one of the worst parts of the classic era. b-/c+

Another episode that shows why is season 5 my favorite one! This episode is the definition of "hilarious" IMO.

"I'm Idaho!"
^Pure genius.
I loved this episode. Great gambling satire, there was a plot for every single Simpsons member, which usually doesn't happen (except for Maggie), and not to mention an opportunity for continuity and very funny jokes. Marge's gambling addiction was a nice flaw in her motherly charachter, watching the family deteriorate without her was even better. I'm just glad she somehow got her head together in the end, and I enjoyed Homer rubbing her flaw in her face over and over...
Very enjoyable episode, very filled (as in it had a strong sense of completeness), a 5/5 for me

Well, IMO mediocre episode. It would never be my first choice from the excellent S5 but i do enjoy watching it from time to time. Afterall, there is some hilarious jokes in it.
But I guess I just can't relate to Marge's gambling problem.

This is a perfect example of a B episode. There are a number of ideas which the writers were trying to work in, but I don't think that the episode worked entirely. There were a number of great jokes, the satire on gambling was well done, but could have been better. The Homer characterization was perfect for slightly crazy Homer. B

This might be one of the funniest I've seen, but I think the storyline could've used some polish. The quotes were genious:
"Nevada makes my butt look big"
"I'm Idaho!" (classic Ralphism)
":Mr. Burns laughing hysterically approximately 20 seconds consecutively:"
"Your boy, Bart, was almost got eaten by a pony!" (classic Barnism)
"Around the applause for Anastasia, she loves show business, so much better than that jungle savagery, ja?"
...and the whole thing about 'Boogie Man'. I know, this episode is just another classic laugh riot that you don't see in these days. :(
Homer's character of blaming Marge (instead that he did a bad job of making Lisa's 'Floreda' state costume) defined Homer's slightly crazy character also. Marge's addiction on gambling made another story of motherhood gone wrong. Storyline was not the best, but enjoyable. I give this episode
4.5/5

This episode hits the comedy "jackpot." It goes "all in" with jokes like the boogey man, gamblor, the spruce moose, and Homer's photgraphic memory, I give it a 10/10, the "royal flush" of voting rank
I wouldn't give it a full 5/5. At points this episode is a bit boring, and all those damn lights in the casino end up getting reeeaaally annoying.
Regardless, it has a few great jokes, and it's one of those classics that has a good subplot to help the episode (Bart's casino).
4/5

There was some really good jokes somewhere in there. The Barney quote for an example, hilarious in my opinion. The plot was fairly good. I wasn't expecting Marge to be an addiction to gambling. It was pretty shocking, yet again, pretty funny in a way. The end is perfect, with the kiss and all. 5/5. A true classic.

Solid A. Not much of an involving story but I think there are some genuinely moving parts. The humor is top-notch, and I think the fact that there are several different plots running throughout helps the episode a lot, in that we're constantly seeing how every family member (plus Burns) is being affected by the gambling legalization; I think that focusing on a single storyline for the entirety of the episode would be a waste of such a broad story idea.
Awesome episode. Along with all the lines quoted already, I always thought the shot of Homer dealing cards to Maggie and saying "I'm trying to teach the baby to gamble" was really funny for some reason. A.

5/5 One of my favorites.
One of episodes that Homer isn't completely self-centered. He tries making Lisa's crummy costume. I love that Bart opens his own TreeHouse casino. ""What are you going to do start your own casino in your little treehouse and get all your friends to come...well he certainly showed me"
It's one of those episodes that has everything.

Huh? Ok.
I was just thinking about this episode so I thought I'd post here about it. Absolutely love it. It's in my top 10 for sure. There's just so many great gags. GAMBLOR! Boogie man, I'm Idaho!, Bart's Casino & Robert Goulet.. it's almost perfect. It probably is perfect but I am reluctant to make such a claim. Alas, amazing episode. 5/5, 10/10, 20/20, 40/40, 80/80, 160/160 etc etc

Just rewatched it, and my opinion has changed slightly. I now think it's a truly great episode, very funny on almost every scene and with an overall memorable and unique tone. All the characterizations were spot-on, and although Marge's storyline could have been developed more, it was still interesting to see. I liked seeing Homer get emotional over his failure with Lisa and over Marge's problem. There were also a multitude of great, hilarious moments in this one, despite there also being a few scenes that missed their mark. Overall, not an absolutely perfect episode, but still a definite classic. 4.5/5

Another awesome season 5 episode. I love how Barney criticizes Marge's mothering, then drinks the quarters and burps them back up as people collect them.
I also likes Burns' line "Come, we'll take the Spruce Moose, get in!
"Sir I don't think.."
"Get in......." As Mr. Burns pulls out a gun, hilarious.

One of the things I love about this episode is that after Act 2, there's all these different sub plots involving multiple characters but its handled so seemlessly:
-Marge's gambling problem.
-Homer as a blackjack dealer.
-Homer going insane w/out Marge at home.
-Lisa's state project.
-Burns going insane, owning the casino.
-Bart turning his treehouse into a casino.
Okay Bart's subplot wasn't given any closure. But who cares right? This episode also has "Gamblor". And I loved Homer pestering Marge at the end.
