One of the top 30 ever, IMO. Not the best of S6, but then again S6 was blindingly brilliant. 5/5, no question.

I think it's lunchtime.

It's very good, it's very good. A nice balance of humor for even the most stony-faced viewer to laugh at. You're unlikely to find any satire in it, but you will enjoy it.

I was looking forward to seeing the Simpsons come to Australia but I did not really like this episode very much. It made us out to be all just dumb arse criminals. Perhaps they should have used a little reality rather than every stupid sterotype available. Sure it had some funny parts in it but this has to be one of my least favorite episodes.

SideshowTim
07-24-2003, 09:31 PM
Yeah they did overload the stereotypes and very little reality was used but It was still enjoyable for me 9/10.

Us Kiwis knew about the overloaded stereotypes too and things like that but still a very good episode, which most people would enjoy .

Grade: B+

Not brilliant by any means, but it's at least fun as a wacky adventure (though "Itchy and Scratchy Land" remains my favorite of the wacky vacation episodes). This has something other vacation episodes like "Kill the Alligator and Run" and "Simpson Safari" lack, a nice use of all the characters, particularly Bart at the end with him humming "Stars and Stripes Forever" while showcasing his butt to the Aussies. And the story itself, while silly, is at least memorable for the absurd Aussie steoreotypes and the whole booting plotline. Just fun.

I think its funny over the top but also kind of irritating because I am Aussie. I know its meant to make us look dumb, Pity they couldn't include Steve Irwin at the time that would be too easy for them.

Not everyone in Australia drinks bloody Foster's! VB is very popular.

6/10: Worst of Season 6 by far. i am an aussie, i didnt take anything offesively, but the only good bit is the first act with that blokes neighbour and taking hours and all.

2nd + 3rd acts pretty boring IMO.

Not the greatest episode IMO, but the funniest. It's somewhere in my top 25. Anyway, this was the most I'd ever laughed when watching the ol' idiot box. It's absolute hilarity, gag after gag, all of it working perfectly. Who could've thought that such a Scully-like premise could've turned out to be such a masterpiece? Grade - A+

Also, a high-five to all the Austrailians here for being good sports (unlike New Orleans).

I agree with I'm David Crocket, I like Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington better than this vacation episode. This episode has a lot of funny moments and I love the ending on the helicopter. However, there was little to no emotional value (although, I do like how the family sticks together even though Bart should have been punished and their happiness at Australia's expense) to the story and the satire was really limited to stereotypes from movies. I'd give it a 4/5. That might even be too high, but it's too hard to grade these things. -_-

As an Aussie I find this episode very funny and amusing. A+ 4/5
I laugh my head everytime that Australian squeaky teen voice says:
"I would of called it a Chiz-wozza"

Review:
*Notice that Lisa does not play a real didgeridoo, Because females are not aloud to play the instrument, it was more like a carboard tube.
*We do get the boot if we get in shit.
*I dont drink beer, but if they gave me a foster that big I would drink it.
*bull frogs are not all across Aus, mainly Queens land.

Okay a few things. Someone mentioned the caning plot to be crazy or something. You all do know this is based on actual events right? Not in Australia, but it's a satire of what happened in South America. Some American boy got arrested there or something and the punishment was a caning. It was controversial, being the boy was an American, and having to be punished by a law that was only a law to South America.

Also, everyone keeps calling this a vacation episode. It wasn't a vacation, it was one of the ways that Bart could clear his name after costing that Australian dad a lot of money.

It's been a little bit since I've seen this, so if the plot isn't exact to what I'm typing sorry, but I think it's generally accurate.

It's called a vacation ep because OFF goes on a trip somewere. Doesn't really need to be a vacation. And this ep is awsome!!-4/5- Love it when homer sings," America the beautiful,"( or what ever the song is called) when the toilet flushes. And when Marge wants coffee and the bartender keeps saying/spelling beer.

First off, the canning in question happened in singapore.(They also do it in Malaysia.) Second it's referred to a vacation ep. whenever OFF goes on a trip.
And I love this ep.-4/5- Love it when Homer sings,"America the Beautiful," (or whatever that song is called,) when the toilet flushes. Also I love it when Marge wants coffee and the bartender saids/spells beer.

Bart vs Australia

One of the Simpsons on vacation episodes.

Taught me about the Coriolis Effect. The Simpsons can educate. Wouldn't you agree?

Now I'm in America. Now I'm in Australia. America. Australia. POW! Here in America we don't tolerate that kinda crap, sir.

YOU SOLD US OUT CONOVER!

Why I'd of named em sasquatters...or some Australiaism like that.

Homer crying over the toilet flushing.

The huge boot.

EWWW Not like in cartoons.

HEY! Those frogs are eating all there crops!

What do you all think? Burns, Baby Burn wasn't met with universal worship...though respected. What about Bart vs. Australia?

Le Jake
08-11-2009, 07:09 PM
The whole "Coriolis Effect" (sp) was a neat set up to one of the funniest Bart pranks in the show's history: tricking the Austrailian kid, although I don't know why the phone would be off the hook without anyone noticing after 6 hours.

BvA is an episode that's wack (for it's time) but it manages to do something vacation episodes haven't done since about S10--be actually funny.

I can't remember who said it on the commentary but they were right when they said only stupid Australian school kids hate this episode - at least that's how it was at my public school - but I personally really enjoyed this episode and the stereotypical knock at Aussie culture was harmless lighthearted fun. The Koala getting electrocuted and the lava death are two scenes I remember fondly, the episode had a tight plot and some great throwaway gags and jokes, I also love Bart's line 'Hey! I think I hear a dingo eating your baby.'

Meh. As an Australian, I think I appreciated it more than I did a decade ago and some of the sterotypes were quite hilarious. I caught this on Channel 4 today (well some of it). Eh, I didn't think much of it. The whole making fun of Australia thing gets tired really quickly and whilst there are certainly funny moments, there's a lot of stupid stuff here too. And the chase scene felt like something straight out of the Scully era. Okay I didn't see the whole episode this time but I've seen it before and this was just a gagfest that didn't quite work for me. Too over the top at times to be really enjoyable.

I'd say 8/10, in the middle of your grades. The way it made fun of Australia was pretty funny, and there were memorable lines and gags. But I felt it was almost like a South Park style exaggeration. I mean, they were portrayed like a bunch of Foster's drinking hicks.
