Rate & Review - Treehouse of Horror IV

A few days ago, if you had asked me what my favourite Treehouse of Horror was, I would have said "Number 5, Easily". However, I watched Number IV 2 days ago and I now know that is definitely the best THOH ever(14th on my all time episode list). It is funnier, darker and just plain better than any other Halloween special.

This is the best TOH ever for me. All three segments are just perfect - clever plotted and with truly amazing gags and dialogue. The Twilight Zone spoof (Nightmare At 4 1/2 Feet?) is also magnificently tense. However I'd only consider this better than V and I because while the three IV segments, the three I segments, Time & Punishment and The Shinning are all equally outstanding, I feel Nightmare Cafeteria lets V down. It's still good, it's just not.....groin-grabbingly good. TOH I, IV and V are all still A+ in my book however, with IV just edging it over I - 1. IV 2. I 3. V

Well, THOH V is still my favorite by a long shot, but this one probably comes in second. I love "The Devil and Homer Simpson", the best segment of this particular THOH. "Terror At 5 1/2 Feet" was also great, however, i didn't consider "Bart Simpson's Dracula" to be all that spectacular. I agree with Jafar that in V "Nightmare Cafeteria" wasn't up to par with the other two segments but i believe the absolutely perfect Shining parody and "Time and Punishment" more than made up for it.

Edit: still a 5/5 though.

This is easliy the second best Treehouse of Horror but number 5 still takes the cake, Nonetheless I really enjoyed this episode, All segments were spectacular, The Devil and Homer Simpson was the best segment in this Treehouse of Horror, Bart Simpsons Dracula second and last but definately not least Terror at 5 1/2 Feet.

Opening/Presenting - 10/10

Bart Simpsons Dracula - 10/10
Terror at 5 1/2 Feet - 9.8/10

10/10, I agree with you guys, it's a good as THOH episodes get. Everything worked perfectly, its got the horror atmosphere and its got big laughs to go along with it. Also, David Silverman's direction is unparalleled here, so moody, yet the jokes serve the mood, not detract.

It's great halloween special, but not my favorite. All three stories have a suitably halloween theme, and can actually be slightly scary, unlike later episodes in the genre. The humor is there for all to see, and it never fails to hit the right buttons with me.

This is a truly great, A+ quality episode. All three segments would rank among the top 10 Halloween segments of all time. Nothing else, not even TOHV, comes close. 5/5.

My favourite TOH, with some hilarious gags, like the foreword by Steve Allen on Burns' book, as well as Flanders (the devil) actually having an appointment with Monty Burns.

One of the best THOH episodes, absolutely loved The Devil and Homer Simpson, and thought Bart Simpsons Dracula and Terror at 5 1/2 feet were also really good, 5/5

Good, but not great. I actually think III is the greatest Halloween episode, but this is probably a close second. I think that 'The Devil And Homer Simpson' and 'Terror at 5/12 Feet' are brilliant, but the last segment is just pure mediocrity. Overall, probably an 'A-', but that still lands it a 4/5.

The above poster was right, the third act in this is weak comparatively, and the second act can't hold a candle to the first two acts of THOH V.

THOH V:
The Shinning: overrated. gets a lot of credit because of its accurate take-off
Time and Punishment: okay, this one is solid, but terror at 5 1/2 feet is much scarier
Nightmare Cafeteria: decent jokes, ending is kinda what takes it down a notch

I'd probably put I, III, or VII in front of it.

IV is still the money THoH.

I like especially the last story "Bart Simpson's Dracula"
Mr. Burns as Vampire is really funny and the conclusion at the end too.

I voted 4/5. My favorite was Time and Punishment, and my favorite part was when Homer screamed because Marge didn't know what a donut was. Nightmare Cafeteria was allright, I liked it a lot better the second time I saw it. The Shinning was the about tied with Nightmare Cafeteria, I never saw "The Shining" so I can't totally rate this. It was funny when Homer's killing intentions were dying down, then suddenly rose, then died down again.

The BEST thoh ever! the mirkin ones in general are the best. The combination ov violence and jokes is great. The Shining totally kild me, good story, really great animation, good homer-going-crazy performance by dan. I also liked willy being killed the same way in every segment. 'I'm not good at this!' lol
