Lots of great gags (Itchy & Scratchy, professor burning the donut, Adventures of Ned Flanders). The only thing that brings this episode down is the somewhat shallow plot.

Agreed with Simpson Purist. About a 3/5, and season 4's least good episode.

3/5, not very memorable at all. Not bad by any means, though.

I gave it a 5/5 for pure hilarity. And I'm not biased towards the older seasons, I just really like this episode, but agree with the lack of a reason for the Adventures of Ned. Wonder why it didn't become a regular feature in other episodes though.

Yah this ep isnt talked about too much. It doesn't have any moments I remember except the repeating background thing, but not too bad. 3/5

Not offensive at all but not really one that stands out either. It was an average show during a period of amazing episodes.

Exactly, it was funny, but definitely not great or memorable at all.

A sharp, funny episode with some of Grampa's best rants. 4/5.

Not perfect (only about 10 episodes are), but it's still extremely funny (the background scene).

It#s ok, but nothing special. I like the Story with Homer more than the main story with Lisa and Bart. 3/5

It's an ok episode. There were some funny moments, but I like the subplot of Homer going back to school better than the main plot.

The scene where Roger Meyers throws objects at a Jon Vitti lookalike is one of the funniest moments of season 4.
I can never remember what this episode is about. I can't tell by the episode title. Same with 'Round Springfield so I'm constantly having to check the episode guide to remember which episode is which.
But anyway, this is a really funny episode. As others have said, it's not the most memorable but it is hilarious and probably deserves more praise. 4/5

I really like this episode, and enjoyed seeing Bart and Lisa writing an Itchy and Scratchy ep. A hilarious episode, and one of my favorite season 4 episodes.

4/5 from me. No where near season 4's best but still a very good episode. I love the Ned Flanders thing at the end. They should do another one of those.

I think it was very good, and although not really the most memorable of episodes, some of the sequences should be more aknowledged, because they were brilliant. The lampooning of TV shows and animation were pure gold, and their meta-referencing the Simpsons staff and production ("oh at Harvard they taught you?") was really hilarious to the well-versed Simpsons fan. And the sub-plot with Homer failing high school, especially the future gag at the end. ("Is that a plunger stuck on your head Simpson?") was very, very good and should've been expanded on more. I really think its underrated, but still, not too memorable. 4.5/5

I thought the episode overall was pretty good. Loved how they had to use Grandpa just so their scripts would be accepted. There were some weak points, but I would give this episode an 7.75/10.

Okay, I'm not really believing some of the underrated-ness that is shown for this episode. In my opinion, this episode is one of the best of Season 4--and classic era. It had downright hilarious humor (Homer thinking Grampa is a nutjob, 'That's right, I did the Iggy', Grampa's fantasy.. and many others) coupled with two good plots. There were some good satires on the cartoon industry and the pedigrees of writers who, sometimes, make some blunders (such as the writers of the show of--you get the idea).
Deserves A/A+ from me, or 5/5

A great one, a bit self-critical, but very short. After I saw the Adventures of Ned Flanders I asked myself: What the hell was that?:D
Overall an A

I guess it kind of gets lost in the shuffle at times but it stands out to me as a very enjoyable episode. It's kind of a forerunner to "The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie" show in many ways, an early satirical look at the reaction to a show that's been running for a while and spoof of the industry. Some great Grampa stuff throughout as well. 4.5/5 for me.
